Refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Will Get Limited Feature Availability

General Motors unveiled the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 in September, pulling the sheets on a full update for the light-duty pickup that introduces a broad range of changes and upgrades. Unfortunately, GM Authority has learned that several key features of the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado will be limited as a result of the ongoing global microchip shortage.

The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 features impacted by the microchip shortage include:

To note, the new 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 and High Country trim levels will be unaffected by the limited availability of heated and ventilated front seats, as well as heated rear seats. Additionally, High Country trim levels are unaffected by limited availability of heated steering wheels. That said, no trim levels of the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 trim levels are unaffected by the limited availability of the park assist features.

Luckily, the front and rear park assist features will be available for retrofit around the Q4 2022 timeframe. Additionally, heated and ventilated front seats will be available for retrofit around the mid-Q2 2022 timeframe, while heated rear seats will be available for retrofit around the mid-Q2 2022 timeframe. Finally, heated steering wheels will be available for retrofit around the early Q3 2022 time frame.

It’s also important to note that only some units of affected trim levels will not be equipped with these features.

Check out the table below for a more complete breakdown of which refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 trim levels are affected by the limited availability of these features:

As a reminder, the the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is offered with several engine options, including the turbo 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine (which produces 20 percent more torque for 430 pound-feet), the atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the atmospheric 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax.

The pickup rides on the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Silao Plant in Mexico, the GM Fort Wayne Assembly facility in Indiana, and the GM Oshawa Plant in Canada.

  1. So they credit $50, or a similar marginal credit, for not having these items. Retrofit better not cost.any more than handing the credit amount back to the dealer.
Imagine getting a $50 credit for not having a heated steering wheel, then 4 months later being told it’ll be $999.99 to get it

    1. It will of no cost to the customer, and GM will pay the dealers for the parts and installation.

        1. All GM products will experience the same “ship without chip” on those same areas….

  2. I was told by my dealer that I’d be receiving my Sierra near the end of March and I’m starting to think that won’t be the case. Doesn’t seem like this shortage is getting any better

      1. Don’t believe so. This 2022 is my first brand new truck so I’m new to this entirely

      2. Call your dealer. He can tell what the current Event Code is for your order and what that code means…..

      3. Unfortunately no. That would make too much sense. Amazon can do it on a $3 package but an auto manufacturer can’t do it on a $75,000 truck??? Your dealer is pretty much in the dark, as well.

      4. You can start a chat with GM on either Chevrolet.com or gmc.com depending on your make. Tell them you want to know the build status of your vehicle order and enter your 6 digit order code.

  3. Nothing is ever the same once you take it apart. Free retrofit is appealing sure but I guess those of you that feel that way are not in “the business”. You don’t want your vehicle taken apart and put back together by a tech who’s getting hosed with retrofit flat rate hours. And they will. I can assure all of you.

  4. I ordered a 2022 Chevrolet Sliverado RST on January 7th. Was informed on January 14th that they were starting to build it (estimated 6 – 8 weeks to build). My sales rep informed me that I would receive the “refreshed” version. I’m okay waiting for the heated seats. I’m just looking forward to the 13.4” info screen in the dash. The 8” screen was very outdated.

    1. I believe the refresh models don’t start production until February 7

    2. May want to look into the truck you ordered, the 2022 LTD models are not built with the new interior. The new models start production on Feb. 7th and will come with the new dashboard, screen, digital cluster, packages and so on.

    3. That’s the whole problem wanting electronic screen to play with your supposed to be watching the road .just give me a truck that goes from a to b and is reliable

    4. James, they knew it would be the “refreshed” 2022 when you placed your order with the dealer on the 7th. They didn’t receive any allocations for it until Jan 13th. GM stopped taking orders for the LTD version on Dec 9th and they were able to place orders for the “refreshed model beginning Dec 16th. GM doesn’t take “Customer Sold Orders” outside of the dealer’s allocations. The only way your order could get built earlier is for them to have requested an existing order to get rolled back to Status 2000. So you might want to call your dealer to get the Event Code for your order. As stated by someone else, production doesn’t begin till February. You’ll probably see your order in late March or early April….

  5. I saw that as well. However, when ai first spoke with the Sales Rep on January 1st, the 2022 Pricing was not available yet. That’s why I had to wait until the 7th to order it. With that being said, we know that there are two different versions of the 2022. The version that came out last fall and the new refreshed version. With that being said, if my order was for the old model, I would think the pricing would have been available on January 1st. Since they had been selling them for a few months. Or maybe the build on my truck won’t start until Feb 7th….

    1. You still don’t sound fully confident which model you’re getting. With a substantial difference between the two, why did you make such a big purchase with that uncertainty?

      Reply
    2. You will most definitely be getting the refreshed version if you placed your order on January 7th. The cut off date for orders for the LTD model was December 9th… Anything ordered after that is going to be the refresh version.

Also, its been known that production of the refresh was going to start Feb 7th in Silao , and I believe early March in Indiana for production. I would estimate that you should be getting the truck sometime April/May, depending on if the dealer had allocation at that time or was just taking your order at the time and will put it in when they get allocation.

    3. James, the dealers started placing orders for the “refreshed” model beginning Dec 16th, which was the last order cycle before the Christmas/New Year break….

  6. Just ordered my refreshed 2022 trail boss. But they are telling me July for deliver (tentatively). They said hopefully earlier. But July at the latest.

    1. Call your dealer and ask for the Event Code. If they tell you it’s at Status 3000 or higher, then GM has applied a TPW (Targeted Production Week) to the order. If the status is below 2000, the dealer has been unable to “Place” your order…..

  7. The anticipated dates for retrofits are kind of comical since the refreshed 1500 doesn’t even show on the Chevy website nor is the configurator available yet. I am not even sure if production has started.

    1. Production is said to start on Feb. 7th but subject to change if needed.

    2. Mexico production starts Feb 7. US production to start March 7. Hopefully we’ll start to see some movement on the configurator and an update from GM soon.

    3. Production hasn’t started and wasn’t scheduled until February. The “Build & Price” site always lags behind what a dealer has access to. It’s done on purpose…..

    1. I’ve had 7 new 1500s and 2500s since 2012. I have never had any of the issues that you mentioned. In fact, out of all 7 trucks, I have only had two problems. The DEF gauge in the 2016 2500HD wouldn’t read correctly. The dealer did a computer update that took 20 minutes. Problem solved. My 2020 Trail Boss had to have the back window replaced as the rear defroster quit working. Was a bad solder joint. Again, problem solved.

  9. Always cater to the rich and forget the people that really matter typical gm

    1. So, say you were running GM and they told you listen we only have a limited number of microchips to make certain features work on the Silverado. You’re telling me you would allocate those chips for say the heated seats, to the vehicles you make less money on? I don’t know about you, but not necessarily a good business move from my perspective. Of course, they’re going to give the most chips to the higher trim levels. Doesn’t have anything to do with catering to rich people.

      1. It has everything to do with it this has been going on for years . Gm canceled Oldsmobile ,Pontiac and most of Chevy just to keep building expensive Cadillacs not everyone can afford a high end car or an 80,000 dollar pickup truck that’s what I call catering to the rich

        Reply
        1. You dont have to buy an 80,000 pick up. They are making crew cabs starting at $42K. Now if you want the big engine, the better trims then yes you will pay $65-80K. But there are options available if you aren’t rich. So it’s more of…you want all the frills….you’ll pay for it. If you want a 4WD pickup truck you can get it for a much better price.

  14. I was going to order a Sierra Denali or AT4, but if certain (necessity) items aren’t going to be installed due to the chip shortage I’ll be waiting until they can be installed at the factory – I’m not having my new $70,000 vehicle torn apart to install these items at a later date unless it’s the dreaded auto start/stop feature, which I won’t be returning to the dealer to be installed.

    Reply
    1. All Sierra trucks are missing Front/Rear Park Assist, but the AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate are missing the fewest features overall. The AT4X loses the heated steering wheel, the Denali’s doesn’t. SuperCruise isn’t available on either vehicle until later in the year. Otherwise, the lower trims are missing 3-5 additional features (like heated or ventilated seats, fuel mgmt, etc). Depending on your budget, you might still get most features you’re interested in. You can see which features are missing if you use the Costco Auto Builder site.

  15. What’s crazy is that Costco has the pricing and options for the refresh on their website before Chevrolet.com does. Scott mentioned Costco Auto Builder so I checked it out and they have it up already. Is that normal?
