New 2022 Chevy Cruze RS And Cruze Midnight Edition Revealed

As GM Authority reported last week, General Motors has just officially revealed the new 2022 Chevy Cruze RS and Cruze Midnight Edition in South America. The automaker simultaneously introduced both versions of Chevrolet‘s compact car in Brazil as well as Argentina, where the vehicle is built exclusively for countries in the region.

2022 Chevy Cruze RS

The new 2022 Chevy Cruze RS and Cruze Midnight Edition expand the model’s offerings, as two new design-focused variants designed specifically for South American countries. Notably, this is the first time GM has introduced distinctive RS and Midnight versions as standalone trim levels on the second-generation Chevy Cruze.

“Today, the Chevy Cruze continues to expand and seek more customers with global and exciting versions such as RS and Midnight,” said Marketing Director at GM South America, Rodrigo Fioco, in a statement. “This is a highly accepted vehicle in the market, offering a very competitive list of comprehensive equipment, and today we underpin its design and comfort as distinctive pillars for the new proposals that we present today,” he added.

Delivering on its official promise to expand Chevrolet’s RS lineup in the region, the all-new 2022 Chevy Cruze RS accentuates the vehicle’s sporty character with bold design elements that refresh its image in the seventh model year. Exclusive to the hatchback variant, the RS version of the Cruze introduces a two-tone body color scheme with black roof and mirrors, as well as a more aggressive darkened chrome grille and specific trim that enhances aerodynamic performance.

Meanwhile, the all-new 2022 Chevy Cruze Midnight Edition is an exclusive version of the sedan that gives a modern touch to the nameplate with an overall blacked-out finish that is sophisticated and highly distinctive in its segment. The Cruze Midnight debuts a new concept in the acclaimed special-edition Chevrolet trim, as in addition to the traditional black color, it includes two additional metallic paint color options: Eclipse Blue and Satin Steel Grey.

The new 2022 Chevy Cruze RS and Cruze Midnight Edition have just been launched in both Brazil and Argentina, where they’re immediately going to broaden the appeal and boost the Cruze’s acceptance in South American countries. The new versions maintain the same mechanical configuration as the rest of the versions and are manufactured at the GM Alvear plant in Argentina to supply a dozen markets in the region.

    1. Both of our older daughters have had or have one. The younger one drove her 1996 Cruze LS to 90k (1 minor emission issue when in warranty), then traded it in on a new Camaro LS and our older daughter still has her 2017 Cruze LT (only 25k miles and zero reliability issues) that she loves and has no intentions of trading in any time soon. They proved to be a great value with decent reliability.

  4. It’s a “GLC” …Great Little Car, and man could we sure use it, and need it sold in the US. Chevrolet also has a “GLT” … Great Little Truck called the Tornado, and need it sold in the US. I’m an old ad-man and when Chrysler introduced the “K” Car is was available in various models, the Reliant sedan/wagon and the Voyager Mini Van. What most people have forgotten but too was a great seller was the Dodge Rampage front wheel drive pickup … if anyone from today’s Chrysler is reading this, bring back those great cars, they were the right cars at the right time … and man do we need a great variety of say $18 to $20 thousand dollar vehicles to choose from.

  5. If gas truely gets to $4.00 per gallon average in the US. GM should import these things to the US. Nobody will care, it will be all about good gas mileage in a good looking car. However with computer chips issues it may not even be possible to do this any time soon.

  8. This is really grinding my gears. I have a 2017 Cruze LT RS hatch and I love the thing to death, and my lease is up in 5 months and the dealership has already told me they’re keeping it and not letting me exercise my buyout option.

Other than 2 headaches easily covered under warranty, it’s never left me stranded, and is is actually quite nimble despite its 2800lb curb weight.

I’d love to get another one, but typical GM… kill a product once they get it right.

    1. Yeah. It was a great vehicle but the sakes on it were low. Car journalist said it was a poor performer compared to the top cars (Honda Civic, Mazda 3 Etc.) and people just went with reputation of Honda and Toyota instead of trying this out. Then of course here comes the CEO chopping off sedans because “they aren’t profitable in the US and Canada. To an extent I agree when checking out the competition the way they take features out of the cars that were standard on the Cruze on mid level trims. It’s still sad they don’t have this car and that the Malibu is next.
