GM To Launch Chevy Equinox EV In Canada From Around $35,000

General Motors has confirmed it will launch the new Chevy Equinox EV in Canada in Fall 2023.

The Chevy Equinox EV will be priced from around C$35,000 in Canada before provincial or federal incentives are factored in. In Quebec, where the majority of electric vehicles are sold in Canada, the Equinox EV would qualify for a $5,000 federal incentive and $8,000 provincial incentive, lowering the estimated MSRP to around C$22,000.

The Chevy Equinox EV will leverage GM’s new BEV3 platform as well as its Ultium battery and Ultium Drive technologies. It will be offered in both fleet and retail versions from launch, including in the entry-level LT and sporty RS trim levels.

Chevrolet U.S. vice president Steve Hill said previously that the Chevy Equinox EV will be an important product for the Bowtie Brand, as compact crossovers enjoy the highest sales volume of any vehicle segment.

“The Equinox has always played an important role for Chevrolet as the second-highest selling brand nameplate,” Hill said. “Providing an affordable EV option in the industry’s highest volume segment proves Chevy is going to make EVs available to everyone.”

Michael MacPhee, brand director for Chevrolet Canada, echoed this sentiment, saying the Equinox EV is proof the automaker wants to offer eco-friendly vehicles at all price points.

“Chevrolet is committed to making EVs accessible for everyone and is driving the industry forward with a wide range of EVs to appeal to Canadian customers,” McPhee said. “With the addition of the Equinox EV, Chevrolet now has even more affordable EV options to choose from in Canada’s largest segment.”

GM released digital renderings of the Chevy Equinox EV at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show earlier this month. The renderings show both the LT and RS trim levels, with the RS incorporating sportier front and rear fascia designs, different alloy wheels and a two-tone black and red interior. Interior renderings show a digital instrument panel, a large centrally mounted infotainment display and the GM Super Cruise steering wheel.

  1. This, if Chevy can make the mileage range to about 300~ for prices below 35K this would be perfect. If GM wants to truly become the leader it envisions they have to sell more than our Q4 ev report…

    1. According to this IEEE article, all GM Ultium products will have at least 300mi of range. spectrum.ieee.org/gm-opens-up-a-new-front-in-its-battle-with-tesla-batteries

  2. If you could get this for 22 k in quebec, that’s a steal. I mean i’m down for a 6 hour trip to montreal to pick one up ( i live just south of toronto) if it is 2k more than a compact car.

    1. The government rebates go according to the province you live in and would register the vehicle in. So if you live in Ontario, you get the Ontario government rebates even if you buy it in Quebec.

  3. If it can really get $35,000 (and not 39,999), then that is a great price. The Equinox LT AWD is $31,000 in Canadian dollars ($33,000 with destination). The federal incentive is supposedly $5,000, but it’s really $4,400. If they can get it around the same price as the gas version, I can see that netting a lot of sales.

    1. Clarification: By “get it around the same price”, I mean with incentives. 35-36k is a great price.

  7. What’s the performance of this? If it’s slow I’ll stay with the Tesla

    1. How fast does it need to be? You buy an overpriced Tesla, so you can accelerate 3 seconds faster than this equinox? Unless you’re drag racing, who cares. Most non Tesla EVs, can do 100 MPH. If you were in Germany, You’re 100% on the money, but in North America it’s fast enough.

  9. Would be far better if they still built the equinox at the Canadian facility in ingersoll. Had the best quality GM many many times. That means nothing to consumers though when the company can pay less so they can make more of the shotty builds they get in return.

    1. Well my union should of done a better job at keeping it at the cami plant. Now we are gutting the plant to build FedEx trucks nuts. The union and GM have totally tuned this shop into a big mess its not a seniority shop now. Making up new rules as they go not following past practice. $hit show.

      1. Maybe if the UAW was aware that ALEJANDRO or RAOUL in Mexico will not whine about how bad he has it, they could keep the jobs here. Americans have become a bunch of entitled lazy clowns. Mexicans will be happy to get a well paid job and get themselves out of poverty.

  12. Old school you are clearly not up to date.
New EV takes 18 minutes to go from 10-20% battery to 80% with superchargers! I am sure you stop every 200/250 miles at least for coffee/eating/toilet… while you do it , your car gets charged! EV are life changer and whoever went EV would never go back!
