After debuting the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 in October for the United States, Canada and Middle East, General Motors has just officially announced the updated truck line in Mexico. The automaker confirmed that at the beginning of the new year, it will market the latest evolution of GMC‘s full-size, half-ton pickup truck in the Latin country, where it promises to reinforce its position as the most luxurious and advanced pickup in its class.
The refreshed new 2022 GMC Sierra represents the mid-cycle upgrade to the fourth-generation Sierra, for which it receives a host of major upgrades with a more sophisticated exterior design, a more refined cabin and state-of-the-art technologies In addition, the 2022 Sierra 1500 introduces the all-new Denali Ultimate trim level as an even more luxurious model that will make it the most premium pickup in Mexico.
“The New 2022 GMC Sierra is simply the most advanced pickup ever, taking luxury to the next level with the introduction of Denali Ultimate, developed to the highest Professional Grade standards that are benchmarks in the industry,” said GMC Marketing Manager at GM Mexico, Wilberto del Ángel, in a press release translated from Spanish by GM Authority. “Some versions of the 2022 GMC Sierra are produced at the GM Silao plant in Guanajuato, so they represent a source of pride for Mexican manufacturing,” he added.
In the Mexican market, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will be marketed in two body configurations and a total of four trims. The range begins with the Sierra Regular Cab in the SLE trim level as the only option. The remaining three trims are available exclusively in the Crew Cab configuration, and include the Sierra AT4, Sierra Denali and new Denali Ultimate, with the latter representing the brand’s most technological and luxurious truck to date.
For now, GM has only confirmed the 6.2L V8 L87 engine (420 horsepower and 460-pound-foot of torque) for the AT4 as well as both Denali variants of refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 for Mexico. The atmospheric gasoline engine will be mated to GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission. At this time, it is unclear whether the Mexico-market 2022 Sierra Regular Cab will continue to offer the 5.3L V8 L84 engine (355 horsepower, 383 pound-feet of torque) or migrate to the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B engine (310 horsepower, 420 pound-feet of torque or higher in the new-for-2022 high-output version).
The refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra is scheduled to begin arriving at GMC dealers in Mexico during the second quarter of the 2022 calendar year. The updated Sierra will continue to be manufactured locally at the GM Silao plant, while the new Denali Ultimate trim will be imported from the United States. Specific equipment and prices will be announced closer to launch.
