General Motors has launched a new rewards loyalty program for Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac customers.
The new My GM Rewards loyalty program offers three membership tiers, Silver, Gold and Platinum, with each tier unlocking higher points earnings and redemption caps. GM says the expanded program allows members to earn and redeem points toward buying or leasing a new GM vehicle. Points can also be redeemed toward parts, accessories, paid Certified Service, and select OnStar and Connected Services plans.
The My GM Rewards program first launched in 2018 and at the time was the industry’s first automotive rewards-based customer loyalty program. GM says more than 6 million of its customers are now part of My GM Rewards and the automaker expects the program to grow with the rollout of this revised system.
GM also this week announced the new My GM Rewards Card, which is being launched in collaboration with Goldman Sachs and Mastercard. Customers who register for this credit card will receive immediate Gold tier in the My GM Reward program and will also be able to accumulate 7X points for every dollar spent at GM and 4X points for every dollar spent everywhere else. The points can then be used toward the purchase of a new GM vehicle.
Julie Heisel, director of GM Rewards and GM Card, said the My GM Rewards Card will improve the ownership experience for owners of GM vehicles.
“For six consecutive years GM has been recognized as having the Highest Overall Manufacturer Loyalty by IHS Markit, driving us to create an all-new My GM Rewards that greatly enhances the ownership experience,” Heisel said. “The new My GM Rewards is a big win for our customers with more ways to earn and redeem points, including premium tiers of membership with exclusive offers and opportunities.”
Interested parties can register for the My GM Rewards Card now at this link.

From what I can tell, there’s some slight changes but no major depreciation that I had suspected:
-Redemption and earning points were halved, so one point = 1 cent instead of previously 1/2 cent. No net change in value here.
-You used to get $100 equivalent for a new car, regardless of value. Now it’s 0.2% MSRP. You win if you’re buying a car over $50k, otherwise you lose.
-Used car purchases, OnStar, service and parts are still earning the same, 3%. Extended warranty is still $25 equivalent.
-New car voucher limit is raised, CPO voucher is new at the two higher tiers, Non-vehicle purchase voucher limits are all lowered.
LLOYD: I purchased a 2022 Sierra limited in November the dealer gave me G.M. Rewards points of 21,000 points. I try to purchase a chrome tail pip the sale person wanted the 21,000 points plus $35.00. the points worth $105.00. I check at parts stores and a chrome pip list at $59.00 to $79.00? then G.M. tells the points expired 01-09-22. what kind of reward is that?
The problem is you didn’t read the instructions. The points should be good for several years, I think it was 5. The vouchers have an expiration date of a month or so. When you didn’t use the voucher, you should have contacted customer service and have them cancel it and redeposit the points.
Bottom line, if i have $5800 in GM Earnings on my current Platinum/Copper card (the one that earns 5% unlimited on every purchase but has a redemption cap depending on the vehicle). how does that effect me and would my $5800 in current earnings transfer over to the new Goldman Sachs card in the form of 580,000 points? And are they removing the redemption limit now on this (grandfathered) card?
I had one of the original GM cards, when it was HSBC.
Customer service has been downhill since it went to CapOne, and I’ve stopped using that card.
Received the mailer from GS the other day, it looks promising. If they’re anything like the GS-managed AppleCard, it will be an excellent experience.
I’ve saved a couple thousand off without much effort due to these cards.
I’ve had the GM Card for 25 years and have redeemed $48,000 in points combined. A good friend recommended it as I trade cars often and have bought cars for my sons when they lived at home.
I had over $15000 on my GM card. When I went to use it, I only had about $600. I sure don’t remember any change in the program where if you don’t use the money within a certain number of years, they start taking it away. That’s bull. I used their card exclusively so as to build up the amount. I guess they had some new fine print. I have used the GM card since it first came out. I was about to buy a new $70000 + Silverado. When I found out they had deleted most of my reward dollars, I said screw you GM and bought a RAM. What a great decision. Thanks GM. Now I think I will be a loyal Ram customer. Your trucks look crappy when compared to my new Laramie Longhorn. The interior looks better than my Mercedes. Wow. Good job Ram.
I have the original card since 92. Expiration of reward dollars as each hits the 7 year mark has long been a part of the program.
One complaint I have always had is the rewards site is a separate login from the credit card one. It would be nice on your statement and card site if it hard your reward status embedded like all other cards. Sans that if you had kept your mailing address up to date you would get a monthly spam mail to spend your $$$$.$$ reward balance on a GM
Can’t be worse than the old program. Bought a new vehicle, spent thousands at the dealer trying to fix it’s crappy engine that face planted right after warranty and got points worth $20. Still get emails about spending that windfall even thou been 2.5 years since dumped their POS for a Toyo.
If you want loyalty build better engines and tranny’s and back them up. Everything else is a gimmick.
SO NOW GENERAL MOTORS IS GOING INTO THE CREDIT CARD BUSINESS?
Link to sign up for cc is broken.
I have received over $20,000 redeeming my GM card rewards over almost 30 years since getting the card. Haven’t used it in almost 2+ years. I guess I’m not a customer for one of those new EV’s they are pushing.
When I first joined the GM MasterCard points were good for 7 years. But back then you or at least I didn’t get any for buying my 95 Impala SS, 99 SIERRA LT or my 08 Tahoe LTZ only accrued points on the c/c for everything else. I did get to use accrued points when I bought them though. I even got points for buying a VW using the card and had over $2000 saved up. I didn’t purchase another GM vehicle and my points dwindled down to nothing! I will see what I get/have after my C8 2LT HTC is built and paid for shortly. With people keeping vehicles longer now days and no expiration(?) on the points might help in the future. Tomg
Its just another card to cause you stress. By the time you accumulate enough points to buy, or put down a purchase of a new Gm vehicle it would take you 10 years. Remember its not $1 for every point. They wont make it easy for you. Its just another way to make money. That CEO makes $250 million a year in salary. There Gready Griches, Goblins, Trolls.
I had saved up about $3,500 toward a new GM car and decided to get an Equinox. There was not one on any nearby lot that I wanted, so I bought a Subaru Outback Touring XT. What a GREAT DECISSION!!!!
I can’t get the link to work. Is anyone else having that problem. Thanks in advance
Please use quality lifters and camshafts, and transmissions. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL GM customer for many years . My two impala ss’s lost the transmission. My Duramax 2500 did great till we got hit head on, but it saved us. The replacement silverado1500 with the 6.2 had to go in the dealership 2 times to have them to try to fix the irregular shifting. Then at 70000 miles the crankshaft and lifters started making racket. I need another truck now! Have these problems been cured! I spent thousand of dollars added wheels, tires brush guards , fender flairs. I need a new Silverado 1500 with the 6.2 3:42 gear to pull a trailer, or 2500HD LOADED
Loyalty? I’m 71 and bought my first GM when I was 16. Never looked at anything else. Had 4 corvettes in the mix of Bonnevilles, Camaros, etc. Went to buy a car this past summer and dealers were surcharging $5-7 k because of “shortages”. I was loyal, but they didn’t care. Bought another brand and am happy.
As usual Gee em is late to the party. Now its even easier to overpay for parts! The Rock auto’s of this world have been eating their lunch for years and I can earn points on the card I want to use. I won’t earn as many “points” but that’s because the 50% mark-up is gone.
No thanks. I will keep my circa 1990s GMC with 500 a year cash saved over 7 years to use 3500 against a new car done twice and patiently waiting for the 3 newest EV cars n trucks to hit the market…meanwhile my yearly 500 accumulations roll off month by month with my current volt ready to be sunset! GS better keep my card and rewards intact moving from cap one to them.
After working 39.9 years for general motors I can’t even get a plan discount on a new c8 Corvette. So much for years of loyalty to GM .
I have bought Chev trucks and cars since 1967, yesterday I took ownership of a 2022 chev silverado. signed up for loyality awards and was told I can not get them because I sold my 2015 chev silverado 6 weeks ago. reason I waited I called GM credit card points refund and was told if I wait till Golden Sacks took over the card I can use all my point not just 1,500. I waited six weeks and used my nephew spare vechile. when I went to get the truck yesterday was told no loyality rewards and only 1,500 point on credit card. Thank you GM 55 years of driving chevs is not a loyal customer.
What a joke the Marcus card is. Cannot access on the internet, my autoship through Chewy. Didn’t happen because my card was denied. I have purchased 6 GM vehicles using the reward program. Ending my relationship with GM because can’t get points if card is denied. Had the card since 1992.
GM should be More Loyal To it’s Customers By simply Standing by Their Product say The 2020 Corvette And The warranty And To Make Sure The Customer Is Took Care Of!!!
wow I have used the GM earnings sine the 90’s to buy cars. my balance was 3500 when the card changed . now I cant find the money. WTF
Can’t use my rewards accumulated for 2 years ! Msg reads: “We are currently performing system enhancements and unfortunately are not able to process gift card requests during this time. We appreciate your patience as we work to bring you an improved experience.” It’s been like this for days already ! Called CS and just wasted my time.
