General Motors Africa and Middle East (GM AMEO) announced the appointment of a new commercial managing director and Chief Financial Officer this week.
Albert Nazarian, who currently serves as the CFO of GM AMEO, has been named the Managing Director of Commercial Operations for the GM division this week. In a statement, GM AMEO said Nazarian will spearhead the automaker’s sales plans “as the company executes innovative growth solutions, including strengthening the firm’s relationships with partners and stakeholders.”
“Over two decades at General Motors, Albert has an exemplary track record of outstanding contributions across finance, productivity and internal controls and brings with him extensive global experience across business development and restructuring, process reengineering, and financial analysis,” the automaker said in a media release.
Replacing Nazarian as CFO will be Ajai Shankar, who previously served as the Finance Director for Global Product Development at GM in the U.S. Shankar, who has been with GM since 2003, will relocate from the U.S. to Dubai.
“Ajai has taken on roles of increasing responsibility including Treasury Manager and Director of Corporate Treasury,” the automaker said. “Ajai also boasts outstanding experience in Future Mobility focused roles, including as CFO for Urban Mobility and Maven”
Lastly, Sajed Sbeih, who previously served as the Managing Director for Commercial Operations at GM AMEO, has been appointed to the role of Vice President for Strategy, Product & Operations at GM Europe. He will relocate from Dubai to Zurich, Switzerland in the new role.
“In line with GM’s Global Growth Strategy, Sajed’s new role will see him lead innovation, strategy, building partnerships and alliances as well as leading product planning and new GM business portfolio,” the automaker said.
Luay Al Shurafa, President and Managing Director of GM AMEO, said these appointments come at an important time, with the automaker set to introduce more battery-electric and autonomous vehicles in the region in the near future.
“We are excited to welcome Albert Nazarian and Ajai Shankar to their new roles as they build on their extensive global and regional experience and drive our Ambidextrous Business strategy forward as we strive toward our vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Congestion and Zero Emissions,” Shurafa said.
GM is set to launch the Cadillac Lyriq in the Middle East in mid-2023 and will also deploy its Cruise Origin robotaxi on public roads in Dubai that same year thanks to a partnership with the city’s Roads and Transit Authority.
