The first pre-production example of the Cadillac Lyriq rolled off the assembly line at the GM Spring Hill Assembly plant in Tennessee this week.
GM President Mark Reuss shared a photo to his LinkedIn page on Thursday of the first pre-production Cadillac Lyriq on the production line. The completion of this vehicle comes less than a year and a half after GM first announced it would invest $2 billion into the Spring Hill plant to convert it into an EV plant.
“Our teams have worked tirelessly on the Lyriq, bringing the launch up nine months ahead of schedule and working in parallel to convert the plant and start production,” Reuss said in the social media post. “This is an important proof point in our path to EV leadership as we introduce more high-volume EVs across price points and lifestyles. I’m thankful to the Spring Hill and Cadillac teams for all their hard work. Congratulations on this huge milestone!”
GM CEO Mary Barra left a comment on the LinkedIn post, which praised GM’s engineering and manufacturing teams for working hard to prepare Spring Hill to produce the Cadillac Lyriq.
“Our teams continue to prove that we can do remarkable things when we share a vision,”Barra’s comment said. “Thank you to the Spring Hill and Cadillac teams for all their hard work to make this milestone possible. I can’t wait for customers to experience how the Cadillac Lyriq truly redefines expectations for luxury electric vehicles.
The first customer deliveries of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition will commence in a few months’ time. The battery-electric crossover will launch with a 12-module, 100.4 kWh Ultium battery pack, which will send power to a single rear-mounted Ultium Drive electric motor producing a GM estimated 340 horsepower and 324 pound-feet of torque. This setup should provide a GM-estimated 300 miles of driving range on a full charge. Only two wheel types and two exterior colors – Satin Steel Metallic and Stellar Black Metallic – will be offered at launch. The pre-production prototype Reuss shared a photo of this week is finished in Satin Steel Metallic.
Other features that come standard on the Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition include front massaging seats, a new Surround Vision Recorder, GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving technology and a 33-inch-diagonal LED infotainment screen.

This car is gonna do really well based of it looks alone for starters. China will eat this up.
It’s all in the screen size, this should have a 60” screen instead of the piddly 35”, size sells!
When Celestiq? Looks like the Info about beginning of february is not true otherwise we would have seen teasers already…
I’m still reserving my opinion until I see one in person. I have mixed feelings about how it looks. I’ll see one pic and think it looks really nice. Then the next I’m thinking not so nice. Because of the overall design, it MUST have fit and finish that is top grade (for example, that charge port door) and be ready from day one to take on the best of the best. Once I see it in person with regular wheels and all, only then will I know if I like it or not.
I agree. I dont hate it but I wish they would have just made the C or D pillar area look less awkward and slightly more traditional as opposed to that busy Pontiac Aztec looking rear end. the bigger wheels help but the rest of the vehicle looks great and the interior looks to be of great quality based on the pre production models shown.
I agree on looks. Have to see one as often a picture and physical presence give different opinions on look.
I’ve been saying to my friends and family, that I truly believe GM has what it takes to produce great Electric Vehicles. As much of a fan of Tesla as I am, and having own a Tesla Model 3 LR AWD since June 26th 2021, I’m excited about GM’s vehicles.
GM and their CEO; Mary Barra, have the vision and foresight to see where the market is going. Sure, they were reluctant, but not nearly as reluctant as Toyota, Honda, BMW, Volkswagen.
Having learned their lessons of EV Manufacturing from their Partnership w/ LG Chem, they’ve got the experience, and Insight.
They’ve poured their profit margins from their Highest Grossing Products, into R&D for developing new platforms, battery technology, and electric drivetrain technology!
GO GM!
They got a lot of things, except for what’s most important, demand.
Hmm. I’m not sure I follow you h4cksaw. Sure GM was passed by the sheeple car company Toyota (only because they count anything with a Toyota motor as a sale). But GM still came in second and has been basically in number one for years. Not all GM models will be huge hits every time, just like any brand will have duds. But saying GM has no demand? Please explain.
This lyriq is aimed a pathetically small market segment… It will have dismal sales numbers as a result… Love how you act like gm being second in domestic sales is nbd. Well that fact of the matter is, it is a big deal, and gm shareholders should be extremely concerned about the next 5 years…
” pathetically small market segment” ? You mean CUV/SUV?
A luxury BEV 5 seat cuv with most trims priced north of $70k… Yeah I’d say that’s a pretty niche market. One that the Tesla cultist already pretty much have a strangle hold on. But whatever… Time will tell.
Where did you get $70K from? And oh yea, this is not a Chevrolet.
Base model is $60k with 1 motor and rwd only… I would suspect that multiple motors would raise the price fairly substantially so, my estimate of $70k is actually fairly conservative… It doesn’t matter anyways because gm won’t sell many regardless.
meanwhile the used market already has a bunch of low mile Model Ys with awd for around $60k. Don’t get me wrong, I think the Cadillac will have a nicer interior and better assembly, but will it be $20k better? Again, time will tell, but a highly doubt most consumers will flock to this vehicle, unless forced to do so. Considering we don’t all live in totalitarian states like California or New York yet, I think most will still choose the dependability and convenience of traditional vehicles.
You should probably stop now as everything you’re saying is pure unsupportable drivel.
The launch model is a pretty much loaded model including SuperCruise with only a single motor. Adding another Motor for awd will not make it $10k more expensive. Future models will actually be less expensive and pricing will likely be similar to the XT5 which it will replace.
Oh, and per your comments that used model Ys are available with low mileage are $60k, $20k less than the Lyric. Maybe you should try going to school instead of hanging out in parents basement.
@ GMC FAN
wow so cool fully loaded with one motor gmc is so innovating what a time to be alive. And nice I like the overused parents basement joke you must be a good stand up comedian.
California and New York totalitarian states? Wrong. Texas is the totalitarian state and with the new laws restricting voting rights and what teachers can teach in schools, it’s even more totalitarian now.
At most a fully loaded Lyriq will be around $62,500, that’s because the debut edition is already almost fully loaded.
Jeff what did they restrict about voting rights? Please tell? Also please name what supposedly can not be taught in school.
Why feed the trolls…
h4cksaw: You say “Love how you act like gm being second in domestic sales is nbd.” Please explain where you get that from? I simple pointed out a (sad) fact that I can’t change. I also pointed out that if the sheeple car company didn’t count fork lifts and god know what else as sales, GM would probably still be in first place. But being in first isn’t the only metric of success. I’d dare you to look at the ATP’s of GM vs. Toyota. Anyhow….no matter what if I were a GM shareholder, I’d rather see higher ATP’s rather than just doing whatever to be in first. Granted, keeping high ATP’s AND being in number one would be the best.
And, you seem to be the minority here in saying that this Lyriq will have dismal sales numbers. Everyone else seems to think it will sell quite well.
You kind of sound like the one who’s rambling off justifications and excuse like a brainwashed sheep at this point 🤡 enjoy watching gm stock plummet as the bull market fades and Toyota continues to sell “forklifts” comfortably for the next 5 years.
Everyone here? You mean the same 12 people who usually comment?
Been the same 12 rednecks on here pumping each other for years.
You still trash talking the king Dan. Still one of the least knowledgeable people commenting on here i see. You hate on Lexus cuz ya secretly love it.
FYI GM will build the Honda Prestigue at its plant, since Honda will license the Ultrium technology.
Yuck. This is looking more like the unpopular Jaguar I Pace than a real Tesla rival.
How so?
I agree with him. To me, this is just kind of boring,
I don’t see this selling particularly well.
I agree as well.
It’s ugly, way to busy, and has strange proportions just like the ugly i pace.
Why not an electric SUV or CUV, instead of this small and low hatchback.
And why not place the charge entry behind the back license plate out of sight.
The current charge port door won’t last, knowing the lack of build quality from gm .
Anybody got the odds on a stop sale in the first 30 days?
Here is the deal with this vehicle. It is expected to establish GM a place on the market in the EV SUV segment. It is not expected to out sell most other models but is expected to compete with other EV models.
It will do fine as there is a growing interest into these new models. In many cases people are more attracted to the technology vs the brand.
Not everyone love Tesla and is looking for something they like better or that is different.
I would not be surprised that many will buy these models like the new I Phone just to have the latest thing out as a status symbol.
Steady respectable sales, good reviews and reliable service are the goals here are what GM is looking for here. This is to set the base for what to come will be based on.
This market will be built like a brick wall each model will build on the other into a solid line up that will compliment each other and not compete with in.
Or at least that is the expected goal.
The EV market is not going to be won in one year with one model. It needs to be built and the support around it will grow with it.
GM is quietly working to establish more charging while private ventures will pick up more of the market.
Can’t wait to get my debut edition in April/May. Glad everything looks like it’s on track for an on time delivery!
Im definitely interested, and will check this out- we have had recent Cadillacs (Escalades and a CT6), we also had a first gen Volt and were pleased with them all. Sometimes takes GM a few swings to get things right. Is this a Chinese model? What’s with the scripting on the lower right rear deck?
Script is Chinese for “Let’s go Brandon”
Looks good in some of the high graphic pictures, but in that picture it looks like a station wagon that I would not want. Take a look at what Audi is doing with their EVs and then you realize how far behind GM design really is.
Audi is just reworking gas model Q SUV’s to make e-trons. Range is horrible (100mi less than Lyriq) and stupid expensive.
The tail lights I thought were going to run up the back of the rear , it does look like a station wagon from the rear
My only question about the range which is stated to be 300 miles. Seems that a 100 kWh battery should deliver better numbers. I thought that the Ultium battery and lower weight of the skateboard chassis would deliver better number.
Why would you think it would do better than 3 miles per kWh? That would already make it more efficient than a Model X with a 100kW battery.
Anxious to see the Lyriq first-hand and read a test-drive report.
Gm reliability….LOL. And then off to the Toyota dealer.
GM must have a good price point to compete with the many Electrics currently on the market and coming. Too many times GM pricing is too high to compete with the many others.
