Chevy Silverado Is The Best-Selling Vehicle In These Eight States In 2021

The Chevy Silverado pickup is a hugely popular vehicle, selling in droves across the U.S. market. Now, we’re gleaning further insight into the states where the Chevy Silverado was a best-seller in 2021.

Per a recent post from automotive research company Edmunds, the Chevy Silverado was the best-selling vehicle in eight U.S. states, namely Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, West Virginia, and Alabama. The Edmunds vehicle sales ranking is based on data collected between October of 2020 and October of 2021. The data only includes new vehicles with retail registration to individuals, and does not include rental sales or registrations from government bodies.

Other big sellers include the Ford F-150, Ram 1500/2500/3500, and Toyota RAV4.

In total, General Motors sold 529,765 units of the Chevy Silverado in the U.S. market in 2021, a year-over-year decrease as compared the 594,094 units sold in 2020. General Motors also recently unveiled the Chevy Silverado EV, which will undoubtedly widen the appeal of the pickup nameplate even further.

Early in 2021, Edmunds published a list of the most-popular vehicles in the U.S. for the 2020 calendar year. According to the report, the Chevy Silverado was the best-selling vehicle in four U.S. states, namely Minnesota, Idaho, Indiana and Kentucky. Meanwhile, the Ford F-150 took the top spot in terms of overall sales.

As a reminder, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited is offered as a stop-gap model between the pre-refresh 2021 model year and fully refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500. Powertrain options include the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax. Based on the GM T1 platform, production takes place at the GM Fort Wayne Assembly in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the GM Silao Plant in Mexico, and the GM Oshawa Plant in Canada.

  3. Silverado / Sierra outsold the F150 in 2020 and again in 2021. Sales last year were 778,688 to 726,003. Ram came in at 569,389.

The “low rent” interior of the GM pickups was obviously not as big a factor as many have claimed.

  4. If they sold so many , where is the one I ordered over a year ago , you would have another sold if I got mine. It’s makes it really hard to be loyal to GM when they tell you one thing and do another. This truck has been built since July , we got the vin and invoice in Aug , still no truck. GM doesn’t tell you nothing except be patient. I’ve been driving GM for 45 years so tell me I’m not loyal

    1. I would ask my dealer if indeed your order is even still in the system. Chevy has been summarily canceling orders for vehicles, even ones with deposits on them.

I know the Spark is an import, but still a Chevy. A family member ordered one, and had a firm order number. Six weeks later, the dealer found that GM had outright canceled the order, along with hundreds of others, including for trucks.

      No explanation was given.

  5. HOW LONG ARE THE BATTERIES SUSPOSED TO LAST IN THE EV TRUCKS ????? AND WHAT IS THE EXPECTED COST TO REPLACE THEM

    1. Kick it down the road when the battery warranty expires.
It will cost at least 50% or more of its value.

    2. The battery warranty on my Chevy Bolt is 8 years/100,000 miles, the battery is designed for 300,000 to 400,000 miles before serious degradation sets in.

  6. Reading the comments I feel less optimistic in ordering my 2022 Silverado RST Rally Edition. Why would Chevrolet not honor a customer’s order request? I will be patience and wait until this spring, but I’ve been looking at the Ford Raptor as well. I’ve been a loyal Chevrolet Silverado owner since 1993.

  7. I ordered a 2021 RST w/ the 6.2L and got tired of waiting and my order # changing 3x and the dealer having zero feedback nor customer service. Bought an 2021 LTZ w the 6.2. Honestly waiting to see the refreshed pickup on the lots but would NEVER order again due to my experience this past year. You can’t even build and price the refreshed 2022s on the website yet but we can hear and see all about the EV that’s not going to be here tell 2024. GM needs to get things back on track or find a new CEO that cares about customer loyalty more than just the bottom line $.

  8. That’s all supply chain issues. GM (and every other carmaker) needs to sell as many trucks now as possible in order to pay for the EV’s.
