General Motors has unveiled the all-new 2024 Chevy Silverado EV, a fully electrified version of the popular pickup truck. Reservations opened up shortly after the vehicle’s debut, and according to GM CEO Mary Barra, all available reservations for the well-equipped Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition were spoken for in a matter of minutes.
In a recent interview with Bloomberg’s David Westin, Barra outlined how customers received the debut of the new 2024 Chevy Silverado EV.
“The reception, I have to tell you David, has been great,” Barra said. “The First Edition of the RST sold out in 12 minutes and reservations are still coming in. So we’re super excited about the response that we’re getting because this is a ground-up EV truck that has so much capability.”
For the moment, the Chevy Silverado EV is offered in both the RST trim and the fleet-focused WT trim. According to Barra, General Motors will initially launch with the WT variant, which is slated to launch in spring of next year, followed by the RST variant in the fall.
Under the body panels, the all-electric Silverado is based on a dedicated Ultium BEV platform that incorporates a 24-module Ultium battery pack into the vehicle structure. Topped off with electrons, the battery pack will provide upwards of 400 miles of driving range for both the RST First Edition and WT trim levels.
Motivation in the RST First Edition is sourced from a dual-motor e4WD system, rated at 664 horsepower and 780 pound-feet of torque with the available Wide Open Watts Mode. Meanwhile, the WT runs a dual-motor setup producing 510 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque, offering 8,000 pounds of towing and 1,200 pounds of payload capacity.
Further specs include an independent front and rear suspension, while the RST First Edition features Adaptive Air Ride suspension as standard, plus four-wheel steering.
Pricing for the 2024 Chevy Silverado WT starts at $39,900, while the RST First Edition starts at $105,000. Further trims, including an off-roading Trail Boss model, will be released as production ramps up.
