Cadillac Escalade-V Accelerates, Sounds Like A Beast With LT4 V8 Power: Video

GM Authority was the first to break the news that General Motors was developing a new Cadillac Escalade-V model, set to be offered as a high-performance variant of the popular Cadillac Escalade luxury SUV, saying back in May of 2021 that the Escalade-V would sound quite menacing. Now, we’re confirming exactly that with the following video of a prototype Cadillac Escalade-V accelerating hard from a stop.

The video clip capturing the acceleration is brief, but informative. We see the Cadillac Escalade-V make a righthand turn onto a public road, after which the driver nails the throttle. With the full acceleration of the SUV unleashed, the nose points towards the sky as the four tires dig into the pavement. The sound produced is the traditional V8 growl, emanating from the rear of this beast with purpose. According to GM Authority sources, the production model will be equipped with four trapezoidal exhaust tips, similar to the two Cadillac Blackwing sedans.

As for the power spec, the Cadillac Escalade-V will cradle the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine, the same powerplant found in the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, third-generation Cadillac CTS-V, Chevy Camaro ZL1, and C7 Corvette Z06. Output is highest in the CT5-V Blackwing, rated at 668 horsepower.

Of course, that rating will not necessarily apply to the Cadillac Escalade-V, but GM Authority sources have indicated that output of least 640 horsepower is in the cards. Sending all that to the wheels will be a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Keeping the muscle in line will be a wealth of chassis upgrades, including new brakes and Magnetic Ride Control suspension with special tuning. Exterior and interior design will also reflect the Cadillac Escalade-V’s performance attitude.

It should also be mentioned that the prototype featured in the video is the extended-length Cadillac Escalade-V ESV, or “Escalade Stretch Vehicle,” which features a longer wheelbase and overall length as compared to the standard Cadillac Escalade, delivering 1.7 inches more third-row legroom and an extra 16 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third row.

With that, check out the video, as hosted by GM Authority Executive Editor, Alex Luft:

Expect the Cadillac Escalade-V to launch later this year for the 2023 model year.

    Sounds good.
It’s really a shame they won’t do a Silverado SS. It’s a huge white space similar to the Raptor in 2010

Agree, A SS Silverado would sway this GMC Denali 1500 6.2 owner to buy one.

Let’s just skip the nonsense and put the LT5 in it. Please give us 755HP/TQ. It’s all there in house GM. Get it done across all three lines of SUVs and GMC/Chevy trucks.

No one knows for sure how much horsepower and torque this beaut will have but for a vehicle that will have ICE for the final generation, I say go all the way with 700 horses and similar foot pounds of torque for this generation cycle. This model deserves it since there was no prior V generations.

I thought the planet was warming so fast that it’s imperative Cadillac go all-electric ASAP. How does an Escalade-V fit into Mary’s big zero future? If she really cared about the planet there would be no Escalade V and, in fact, no Escalade at all.

Sadly, there’s an awful lot of hypocrisy among these environmentalists types. They climb up on their soapbox and posture for the crowds about rising sea levels and pitiful polar bears. Then they climb down, step into an Escalade for a trip to a municipal airport. There they hop aboard their Gulfstream and jet back to their Martha’s Vineyard mansion feeling all proud of themselves for having done there part by lecturing the little people about greenhouse gases.

Or they get drill permits for natural gas wells for the their spacex tourism biz. Or they burn coal for their btc mining. Hypocrisy is everywhere. Wanna bet my 2 dwarf the co2 produced by all the Escalades, V and non.

Obviously I should have said: “ …feeling all proud of themselves for having done THEIR part…”. I hate when I do that and make myself look stupid as if I don’t know the difference between there, their, and they’re. I do know the difference but it’s an error that’s all too easy to make.

Worst Gen to install Hight performance engine , for being too heavy.

    Reply
    1. Andrew

Pretty sure it weighs slightly less than the previous gen despite being physically larger. Only exception is the duramax models are approximately 200lbs heavier than 6.2

    2. G8Burnout

Best gen to ever do this, actually. Seeing as the newly-implemented independent rear suspension will be FAR better at handling that power than the previous solid axle trucks would have.

      Think, THEN comment.

If you want to talk about the climate, there are plenty of websites out there that will entertain you. Here, we are talking about cars. Much appreciated.

I did write the comment. Who cares. It was simply a joke. I’m not here to fight with people via the internet. It is beyond bush-league. You teenagers get so butt-hurt, so quickly. It’s sad.

The original poster complained about the price and the loud exhaust. If he (or anyone else) thinks that the LT4 is only about having a loud exhaust, then they don’t belong within 100 yards of a high performance vehicle. The C7 Z06, 6th Gen ZL1 and CT5-Blackwing all run this mill and beat the brakes off of European offerings costing 2-3 times as much. The engine is MUCH more than a loud exhaust. LOL!

As someone that owns both a Camaro SS and C7 GS, I can attest to the fact that these cars are world class and cost a mere fraction of many other manufacturers. Period.

You know it just make me laugh and want to cry at the same time… People come on GM authority and say Cadillac has no guts to build a vehicle like this then what do people do… Talk about “climate change” ! The same people who hate this Escalade V series then go on the Silverado EV blog and put down a green vehicle that uses no gas ⛽ at all????! Aren’t you people ever satisfied? I love reading the comments more then the article itself it’s amazing how CAR TALK turns into finger pointing because someone posted something that some else didn’t like it’s like children.. . actually two year old son is more mature then some of the people who comment on GM AUTHORITY. I don’t want to read Facebook when I am on GM AUTHORITY I want to read about GM vehicles!

It’s a supercharged V8 with 650+ HP…….. what do people think the exhaust note will be? Of course it’s gonna sound aggressive. The guy on the video makes it sound like it’s a big surprise that the Esc sounds mean. Ever hear a 6th Gen ZL1 with a manual under full acceleration, absolutely ferocious!

If you want to know approximate performance stats on this Escalade just watch the John Hennessey video where he puts a supercharger on his wife’s 2016 Yukon Denali XL. It’s 650 HP and runs 110 MPH in the 1/4 mile. That’s with an 8 speed tranny, the new 10 speed should shave a few 10ths off, perhaps 112-114 in the 1/4. Not bad for 6000 pounds but the new independent rear looks uncomfortable under hard acceleration.

    1. Hüsker Dön’t

Agree about the independent rear. That’s the problem when you try to throw an engine into a chassis that was never designed for it. If GM built it from the ground up with quality parts and craftsmanship then you wouldn’t see that horrible squat under hard acceleration or the sh*t tier cornering. Big brakes and retuning the magnetic ride isn’t going to cut it.

      Reply
      1. Chevy Man

Yes Husker let GM build it from the ground up and charge $200,000 dollars for it and nobody would buy it. This is a halo vehicle for Cadillac. It’s not about handling or rear squat under acceleration… It’s about look at me in Cadillac Escalade V Series. And as a bonus in a straight line this thing would beat on stock Camaro’s and Mustangs! 👍👍

I would love see GM make a ZRX Silverado, packing the LT4. The 1.7L Eaton blower spins so fast, that it creates a lot of heat (~20,000rpm), but if they engineer enough cooling for this machine, it could be a game changer. Ford is producing a Raptor R, that will be running the 5.2L V8 Predator from the new GT500. As it will be an uber specialty vehicle, I don’t anticipate Ford selling tons, but it is still an option for the right buyers.

With that being said, go for it GM. Make it available to your “bowtie faithful”. Don’t hold back!
