Below, we’ve included sales figures of full-size luxury crossovers for the sake of reference. Though they differ mechanically from the aforementioned body-on-frame SUVs by having a unibody construction, they are typically cross-shopped and considered as alternatives. Currently, the only full-size luxury crossovers are the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class and the new BMW X7, though Audi is rumored to be working on a future Q9.

The GM Authority Take

The Cadillac Escalade sold as many units as all of its rivals combined during Q4 2021 thanks to ongoing healthy acceptance of and interest in the all-new Escalade that launched for the 2021 model year.

GM continues to give the full-size luxury SUV continues to be given production priority in order to maintain adequate inventory levels at dealer lots during the ongoing global semiconductor microchip shortage that is expected to remain well into 2022.

The first new competition to the full-size luxury SUV in some time is the all-new 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer from FCA Stellantis that debuted last year alongside the less luxurious 2022 Jeep Wagoneer, taking direct aim at Cadillac with the claim that “the original American premium SUV returns to push the boundaries of the class it created.” Its ongoing impact on Escalade sales remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, Lexus has announced the revamped 2022 LX, although the new model has yet to launch for the fourth quarter.

It’s worth noting that Cadillac is far from fasting still, having just announced the upcoming Escalade-V. The high-performance variant will launch for the 2023 model year and will be powered by GM’s supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 engine used in the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, among other high-performance GM models like the Camaro ZL1, third-generation Cadillac CTS-V, and C7 Corvette Z06.

  1. This is awesome news, I predict the Escalade widening its lead with the introduction of the Escalade V. While the 6.4 sounds great in the Grand Wagoneer, I think the LT4 is about to take the cake for best sounding in the segment
