The eighth-generation C8 Corvette is an exciting new addition to the nameplate’s legacy, introducing a fresh mid-engine layout that breaks from decades of Chevy Corvette history. Now, the C8 Corvette has been recognized by Consumer Reports as a top performer in the organization’s road tests.
Consumer Reports recently listed the latest top performers in the organization’s road tests, placing the C8 Corvette third in road test scoring. The C8 Corvette was given a score of 97 points out of 100, ranking it third on the Consumer Reports list. The new Vette’s third-place ranking places it ahead of the Audi A8 (96 points) and behind the BMW X5 (98 points). The top performer in the Consumer Reports road tests was the BMW 7 Series with 99 points.
According to Consumer Reports, the road tests are based on more than 50 individual evaluations, with the final road test score incorporated into the organization’s Overall Score for the vehicle. Unsurprisingly, Consumer Reports was particularly impressed with the C8 Corvette’s acceleration, handling, braking, and transmission performance. The sports car’s fit and finish were also highlighted. Predicted owner satisfaction was a top five out of five. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph was measured at 3.4 seconds in Consumer Reports testing.
As for the negatives, Consumer Reports critiqued the C8 Corvette for tricky cabin access, as well as poor rear and side visibility. Additionally, the trunk/cargo area was given a score of one out of five, while predicted reliability was also given a score of one out of five.
As a reminder, the C8 Corvette Stingray is motivated by the atmospheric 6.2L V8 LT2 gasoline engine. Output is rated at 490 horsepower at 6,450 rpm and 465 pound-feet of torque at 5,150 rpm in standard trim, with the optional performance exhaust upping output to 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. Output is sent rearwards through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Under the skin, the C8 Corvette rides on the Y2 platform.

I don’t place a lot of fact finding in CR as they have been anti American for decades. I love my C8 and wouldn’t trade it for any of their favorites.
What’s the logic…..? One month ago CR rated this car among least reliable cars made, one month later, suddenly it’s one of the best. What or who changed the judging criteria? I subscribe and use CR as a reliable quality source, appears they may be too indecisive for me or just inappropriately influence by a manufacturer.
It’s already been proven with CR from those who’ve already retired or left from CR, that whoever (Company) gives the highest offering (bribe) of money to help sell their products , gets the highest ratings. No money, then subpar ratings. Lots of money, stellar writeups.
Been that way for quite a long time now. Dirty politics in everything these days
Proof? Or just adding to the hyperbole machine?
Well, CR said it is a top performer in road tests, but also said predicted reliability only rated a 1 out of 5. There were also other negatives for rear and side visibility, cabin access, and trunk/cargo. I’m really looking forward to my C8, so I hope GM figures out the reliability issues (mostly tranny, I think?).
So I have a question – today this is the headlines – C8 Corvette Among Best Cars Tested By Consumer Reports and in the same blog at the bottom Chevy Corvette among least reliable cars, says consumer reports….. WHAT???
Buddy I don’t get it either and BMW junk wait until you have to fix one…. I hope you have a separate bank account 😂 lol. Everyone I have ever known who drove a Corvette loved it even the 190hp 70’s models where 😎 cool.
The C8 is the turd blossom on top of the Chevy manure heap.
If it’s a Brand New model vehicle, they are in most cases rated low on reliability, They Have No Data, “yet” on the the car “they have”, and are not yet factoring in the complaints of sold C8’s. Just wait awhile they may, or may not.
Today’s supercars have many computerized intelligentsia built in. CR should be evaluating super cars imo. The problem is they get paid for their reviews, and better reviews go to the heavier paying hand. The C8 is a fantastic mid-engine sportscar and my 2022 is stellar in my book. The 3LT package is awesome. The visibility issue is only minor on the 1LT cars that doesn’t come with the camera mirror. I don’t see any issue with side view mirrors, which have the mirror warning sensors built in. What about the many production supercars that have less or similar visibility issues. And you shouldn’t critique a supercar against a passenger coupe or sedan. Any aggressive spirited street driving and taking your car to the track is gonna cost you in maintenance and repairs. And it won’t cost you nearly as much as the many high-end foreign supercars out there. The CR review is s joke when they say best car least reliable. CR fumbled the C8 car review. They should stick to appliances and be done with it.
I love my 2021 C8, so on that we agree. But CR gets it wrong so often that it’s hard to pay any attention to their comments. Also wonder what data their “predicted reliability” is based on – if any.
There are two components to the overall recommendation, one the road score, where the Corvette did extremely well and the other, the predicted/ reliability ratings, where it has not done well! They combine the two and have an overall rating.
No one can dispute the stellar performance of the C8. Also, no one can enjoy that performance when it is broken down, and parked at the shop. I’ll buy one, as soon as the reliability improves.
Pfft. Praise from CR dont really mean much. They wont ‘recommend’ the C8 either.
C R should stick to testing coffee makers and stereo equipment , if they can handle it!

Just wait for the 3 subscribers who own a Corvette report in that they disliked the square steering wheel and CR will dump on the car.
I like the square steering wheel, I’m big and long legged, a round steering wheel would not work very well for me.
Anyone disliking it have no clue on what’s best all around for everyones driving pleasure.
Square or round has the same ending results, comfort is what’s important.
CR has been sued 13 times for giving bad reviews, every court case has been in favor of CR.
Goes to show you how corrupt & crooked the court systems are then.
Deal always goes to the highest bidder of money unfortunately, especially today’s day
No its not. Anyone in the car community knows the c8’s have lots of issues. Why you gotta lie GM?
My Redeye destroys c8’s. No one gets butthurt like a vette owner….lol.
I had two C8s,a 2020 and 2021, and I had zero problems with both. The reason I went to the 21 is because of the Z51 package of the 21. I made a trip from my home in South Carolina to California and put about 6000+ miles on my C8. It is the most comfortable touring car I have ever owned. I had to give it up because of my bad back. I had surgery Dec. 17th. I have an order in for a new ZO6, that’s how bad I think the car is.
The predicted reliability of 1 of 5 says it all. Nice overall design and power but typical GM poor quality and reliability. GM really muffed the rollout and the quality of what should be the best car on the planet. Does anyone on the board or in GM management understand the importance of execution?????
You need to take into account how corrupt CR’s reliability is in the first place for many years, before making any decisions. We are All living in those types of days today when EV1 needs to be checked out on all sides, just to hopefully to get to the Real Truth of even the smallest of things today even.
Not sure I’d pay much attention to their reliability ratings.
I remember reading them when they provided poor ratings for the 1999 Chevy Tahoe. Well, I bought mine new, drove it for over 20 years (180,000 miles) and never had any issues. Just routine maintenance. Most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned!
Oh thank you CR. Without this useful information about the C8’s limited cargo space how would I have known that it was a poor choice for making dump runs?
Consumer reports sucks! They have always been extremely negative towards American made vehicles with the exception of Tesla.
If the Corvette was a Toyota… It could be the biggest piece of junk in the world and still get 5 out 5 reliability score, it would just be perfect in every way because CR takes bribes. What about the Toyota/BMW Supra… I wish it was all Toyota but I guess that even though that thing has high maintenance and BMW cars are really not as good as a Toyota it would still score great. Even the Acura NSX the new one got rave reviews I have never seen one on the road ever
I HAVE BEEN DRIVING GM CARS ALL OF MY DRIVING YEARS HAD ALL OF THE COLECTOR CARS 55 56 57 59 60 CHEVS NOMADES ELCOMENOES TRUCKS MY WIFE AND I TOOK 58 CORVETTE OUR HUNYMOON 57 YEARS AGO. WE HAVE A TOTAL OF 8 CORVETTS. AT LEAST 10 CHEVEY PICKUPS MEANY BUICKS AND ON AND ON
THANK YOU GM
Dean in my time of driving so far I have owned…. A 1997 Chevy lumina, a 2002 Camaro Z28, a 2002, Pontiac Grand Am GT, a 1996 Chevy Blazer, currently we own a 2010 Chevy Equinox LTZ V6, and a 2019 Buick Enclave all great cars that never left me stranded on the side of the road expect for the Blazer it was 23 years old and the spider injector went oops but I fixed it cheap with an new old stock updated part. Other then that I owned a 1988 eagle premier junk… It was in the shop more then I drove it, a 2013 Dodge avenger it was ok until it started using antifreeze at two years old and the window switch broke, last But not least I owned a 2013 Mazda 6 I loved the car it was just really expensive to get parts for it and not enough room for the family.
I went and read the review on CR. They were not clear at all how they assessed the predicted reliability. They did qualify their rating noting that they had very little information on many of the new systems incorporated into the car.
