Updated Inside And Out

Revealed on October 21st, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 introduces a long list of changes and updates to the nameplate, including new exterior styling, a completely overhauled cabin, powertrain improvements, as well as the addition of the rough-and-ready all-new 2022 GMC Sierra AT4X and new range-topping and ultra-luxurious Sierra Denali Ultimate.

One of the most important updates for the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is inside the cabin, where we find a completely overhauled cockpit. The new interior addresses criticisms levied against the pickup since the introduction of the 2019 model year, while also incorporating a wealth of new technologies like GM’s hands-free Super Cruise highway driving assistant. All models in the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 lineup are equipped with the new interior design, with the exception of the base-model GMC Sierra Pro (previously known simply as the “Sierra,” renamed as Pro for the 2022 model year).

The 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate is set apart from the rest of the lineup by unique exterior accents, highlighted by a unique grille treatment finished in exclusive Vader chrome. The new grille is complemented by further Vader chrome details within the GMC logo as well as unique front fender trim featuring Mount Denali. The corners of the 2022 Sierra Denali are filled by exclusive 22-inch wheels finished in Low Gloss Black with machined accents, while the rear of the pickup features the six-way configurable GMC MultiPro tailgate, which is also available on the 2022 GMC Sierra AT4X. Power retractable assist steps are equipped as standard on the Denali Ultimate.

While you wait for the “Professional Grade” brand’s updated full-size truck, check out the powertrain availability, its eight front end designs, and then review the upcoming production dates. While you’re at it, check out the body styles and trim levels of the Sierra 1500’s refreshed corporate cousin – the 2022 Silverado 1500.

  1. I am being told in Ont Canada by my dealer that that GMC 2022 refreshed trucks ordered will not have heated seat or heated steering wheel options installed, Only the Denali will have these features installed! The parts will be installed by the dealer when available! There is no ETA when parts will be available. Q: Will this not be a huge tear down of the truck to install heated options? I for one are really concerned having these options installed by the dealer and what will be required to install after delivery!

    1. I doubt there would be a problem with your dealer’s GM Certified technicians installing and reprogramming . I’ve been with my GMC dealer for 30 years & never a problem they didn’t solve,, The problem is the hundreds of trucks that come before you, no different than the dealership & technicians being overwhelmed with recalls . It may take months before you are serviced . Technicians can only do so much in a day. Me personally I would wait, just isn’t worth the aggravation of driving & paying for something that isn’t exactly what you want. Easy for me to say because Feb 2020 i bought my 2020 Denali 6.2 It was exactly what I wanted. I didn’t even want to wait a day for dealer prep. 20 year retired GM.

      1. I would think that due to it being a chip shortage, that pretty much all the components of the particular options will be installed and it would only be a matter of installing the missing electrical pieces necessary to activate the feature. In the case of heated steering wheels, I can’t see the dealers dismantling a steering wheel to install heating elements under the existing leather wrap.

  2. Dealer in New England is telling me I can order The 22 Denali Ultimate with super cruise. What’s the point of the advertising and reservation system if you can’t even order it?

    1. Typo – “Can” should be “can’t”

      1. Crazy isn’t it. Are you going to go ahead and place the order anyways or wait?

        Reply
        1. I’m going to wait (or buy something else by the time it comes out). I understand the chip shortage and supply challenges, but one would think the reservation system is there to fairly allocate the limited supply. I’m also willing to pay a premium for Super Cruise, which makes not being able to order it all the more frustrating.

    2. Look at the super cruise map, it may be that super cruise is not popular in your area so that’s why. Here where I am the whole city is super cruise capable so we can get it just fine.

      Reply
      1. We can get it on Cadillac orders, but GMC is not putting it on any refreshed 22 Sierra Denalis yet according to the dealer.

    3. When I ordered my Denali, I had the option of ordering the Ultimate which came standard with the Super Cruise. I could have gotten it with the reg. Denali, but I could not order the Super Cruise and Premium package together. I went with the Premium package.

      1. Yes Ultimate comes standard with super cruise according to the marketing, but if you actually sit down and order one, super cruise is not available yet. It has “late availability”

        Reply
        1. Yes, that is what I was told, does not negate the fact that the Ultimate has it. And yes, I did sit down with dealer and discussed it all

      2. Thanks. This is a helpful comment as I’m considering the Denali. The nerd in me find appeal to the Super Cruise but I’m not sure how helpful it would be to me. Did you order gasoline or diesel?

        Reply
        1. I went with gas. HP is almost exactly the same but cheaper to maintain. Truthfully, just never been into diesel.

  3. I reserved one and my dealer knows nothing about this .So what does it mean

    1. I went to my dealer yesterday to order my reserved truck and was told I had to put a $1,000 deposit down that’s not refundable. So if I don’t like truck I’ve lost $1,000 . What happened to the $100 I put down to reserve truck and if I didn’t accept it I got the money back

  4. Communication between GM and Dealers seems disconnected. Chevy dealership owner buddy says the forums are usually ahead of the official and informal communication from GM. Most of the GMA user group is pretty aggressive about seeking information and the dealerships have a business to run. When we’re planning on buying a $50K to $75K vehicle we may be more focused on timing than the dealers. They have a business to run and can only deal with what they can influence. My guess is that no one really knows delivery schedules for the refreshed 1500s and we’ll probably see dealerships with inventory in May or June.

  5. its more GM crap , thats what it is. There numbers were so poor last month , Ford out sold them by 100K units , Ford has got there act together. ordered a 2022 F350 king Ranch in June of 2021 and truck arrived in August 2021 , it was a ordered unit , and the order went right to the top, and I love the truck. the seats are so comfortable , two tone paint, the new large info screen is so clear you can see a pebble laying on the ground. I sold my 2019 denali 2500 because I was tired of the cheap thin seats , all the cheap unfinished black plastic wheel lip moldings, cheap black plastic bumper steps, cheap bed steps, stupid looking door mount mirrors, black wall tires, no two tone, cheap plastic blown interior, cheap cheap truck. the mew gmc looks stupid, wide grill, more cheap unfinished plastic , car like dash, backward ass company

      1. WHEN DO THE ORDER BOOKS OPEN? WHEN WILL WE HAVE MORE INFORMATION ON THE PACKAGES AVAILABLE FOR THE DENALI?

        1. The dealers have the packages, just not the prices.

      2. His so called “venom” is justified the complaints he made are valid. You must be new here because people on here have been saying the same thing about their sierra’s for a long time.

    3. From your comment on the GMC, I’m surprised you bought the truck or did you buy it sight unseen?

  6. I ordered 2020 Sierra 2500HD crew cab diesel price unknown and have no regrets except one. The black plastic fender flairs I would rip off if I had a replacement. Not sure why GM uses this cheap dull plastic that looks like it’s been in the sun for years. Love the truck it surpasses all others.

  7. Why is the headliner on every GM truck black? In many mid-to-lower level trucks the only seat options are black or a variation thereof. Their marketing scheme seems to follow the 109 year old policy of “any color you want as long as it is black” (Henry Ford). I prefer a lighter interior palate.

    1. I don’t understand why GM doesn’t use more tutone options in their seating design. I wouldn’t think it would cost any more to add some contrasting panels or stitching highlights which would seriously improve the interior appearance. Maybe the refreshed models will look better, but so far the only new colour options seem to be limited to specific models. I sure hope the new refreshed standard models don’t continue with the current Bla looking colour schemes. What is Gideon anyway??

  8. GM’s secret anti-theft engineering has always been much more advanced that other vehicle manufacturers…

Engine failures are so common, and ignitions will Kill the drivers, that thieves simply don’t bother. Engineered for success!

  9. Here in Michigan, my dealer just confirmed with me the configuration of my Sierra 1500 AT4 and submitted the build sheet. Still think it’s pretty crazy to choose the option when there was no price tag on almost anything.

  10. Does anyone know why GMC only offers the short bed option on the 2022 Sierra Denali Ultimate? I reserved one of these and recently saw this sole bed option. I much prefer a standard bed as do most of the guys I know that have trucks. If you have a contact at GMC HQ related to this vehicle program please email me as I’d love to provide this feedback.

  12. Was I misled when my sales rep told me I got super cruise on my 2022 AT4X? I got an email today with an order number but have since read that only Denali has the feature available.

    1. And only on the Denali Ultimate. I just ordered my Standard Denali and they said it wasn’t even an option. Only one new color too

    2. A lot of confusion and conflicting info out there right now. Costco’s configuration has a price for Super Cruise as an option on the Denali but not on any other trim (standard on Denali Ultimate). AT4 does not list it as an option. Hopefully the options and availability become clearer soon.

  14. ANYONE know if there is change in bed size dimensions or the bed size is the same as the limited truck

    Reply
    1. Short answer is “yes”, probably. Tough to find all the information in one place. I have been using Costco’s auto site for a lot of information on the 2022 refresh models. As best I can tell the dimensions for bed length, width and overall length (truck and also bumper to bumper) have not changed. I keep an eye on the overall dimensions because I can get a crew cab, short bed with OEM bumpers in my garage by about four inches.
