Production vehicle wheels are getting bigger. Indeed, as indicated by GM design chief Michael Simcoe back in 2019, 24-inch and 26-inch wheel sizing is just over the horizon. Now, it’s looking as though the upcoming 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will be the first modern production vehicle equipped with 24-inch wheels right from the factory.
General Motors unveiled the all-new 2024 Chevy Silverado EV in conjunction with the recent 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), introducing a fresh all-electric variant of the popular pickup nameplate. In addition to the new battery-driven powertrain, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV also offers huge 24-inch wheel , which are equipped as standard on the RST First Edition trim level. At the moment, there are no other modern passenger vehicles sold with 24-inch wheels.
As spotted during GM CEO Mary Barra’s keynote speech for CES 2022, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition’s 24-inch wheels are wrapped in Michelin LT275/50R24 tires, the latter of which are current not on sale, but will launch in conjunction with the release of the new Silverado EV.
This underlines Simcoe’s assertion that “we’re headed toward 24- and 26-inch wheels.” The question is – when will we see 26-inchers offered?
As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV is based on a dedicated Ultium BEV platform, and is juiced by a 24-module Ultium battery pack that is integrated directly with the vehicle structure. Driving range maxes out at 400 miles on a full charge.
In the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition, motivation is provided by a dual-motor e4WD system producing 664 horsepower and 780 pound-feet of torque with the available Wide Open Watts Mode activated. General Motors is also offering the fleet-oriented WT trim level, which is rated at 510 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque.

Cartoon wheels. Very appropriate for this “truck”.
Cartoon wheels. Appropriate for this “truck”.
Reduced flex in those low-aspect-ratio tire sidewalls will spell trouble for many of those high-dollar wheels when driven on pothole-infested rust-belt streets. The thing looks like the ill-fated Avalanche with no separation between cargo bed and cab. Wonder what the “range” decreases to when used like a real pick-up….you know,…actually towing something ?
Billj598… Did you read the article about these wheels at all? The wheels will “be offered” meaning if you live in an area with bad roads you have the option of getting smaller wheels on the Silverado EV. Besides not everyone is going to be able to afford to replace 24 inch tires on a commuter vehicle.
“Towing something?”? You can’t actually tow anything with an EV, the battery will be drained before you even get out of sight!
Don’t worry John Cadillac will best Chevy when they come out with Escalade EV… caddy will put 26 inch wheels on it just to show up Chevy 😆😂.
Pickups, the new pimp-mobile.
Needs a stick on RR grille.
I wonder if tow truck drivers will have problems strapping them on the flat beds with those 24’s? Might want to buy stock in AAA, with all these new Electric Vehicles coming out by GM, Ford and Fiat Chrysler these tow truck drivers are gonna be busy.
Not really these vehicles can charge each other up fast to get you home.
I used to use that same excuse too till I found I was wrong.
Replacing those 24’s with 18’s or 20’s would offer a much improved ride and enough rubber to be able to handle the worst roads available without fearing any damage to the wheel.
The suspension on these is electronic so it will ride fine.
I have similar side walls height on 3 vehicles here in the mid west and no damage yet.
Tesla has lots of quality issues. As these age, this becomes more apparent. In Tesla’s case, it was in transaxle failure. For other EV’s drive failure? Rust contamination on cables? Only time will tell what will inevitably strand these on the side of the road, but it will happen. Even for ICE vehicles, many tow trucks especially with triple A just Cary a jerry can instead of towing to a gas station.
USA 1 another thing about these EV Vehicles is that my friend has a lift in his garage to work on cars and couldn’t put a Tesla on a lift without special hardware for the lift other wise the bottom of the car gets damaged. In my opinion this is just dumb why design an EV car that can’t be raised up on an ICE car lift! 😤
No reason to lift an EV but when to rotate or change tires. Brakes can last the lifetime of the vehicle since the motor turns into a generator to recover energy and provide some braking power.
Ha! ha! Dream on!!
Hey buddy, got a few battery pacs I can borrow to get home ?
And to replace axle arms, AC units, wheel sensors, tires, transaxle oil, rust contamination. I can’t wrap my head around all these people claiming these will be maintenance free. Most repairs on ICE vehicles don’t pertain to the engine and transmission anyways. Many modern transmissions will go 300,000 miles with no service, and engines are getting better as well.
GeorgS who was going to do an inspection on the Telsa EV which includes checking the underside of the vehicle… But Alas he couldn’t do it. I am not against EV technology I just think that if car companies want EV’s to one day be mainstream and overtake ICE engined vehicles… Then they have to be accessible and easier to work on then they are right now.
I lived with 20″ wheels for nine years on my Silverado and were impressed with the handling and noise. 22″ and higher is getting just to tall for me. The 24″ lends it easier to make run flat tires. My Camaro has 20″ run flats with 40 series in front, 35 series in the rear. Because it’s a performance car, it is a fairly hard ride. The run flats have a very hard sidewalk to hold up if they were deflated. Not sure if it’s the look or low rolling resistant for efficiency to go to 24″. That is important for EV’s.
Nice love the bro-dozer look I bet you were the coolest guy on the block. Did you have a pair of nuts hanging from the back?
Who is going to afford $120,000 for a truck. Don’t even talk about the RST! No one but a few rich people are going to be able to afford one. Talk about the work truck and what will come standard and what you can build out for a cost of under 1/2 of what a RST will price out. Lets get real!
The same folks who can’t afford a 7 Series or S-Class but walkout with a cheap 2-Series or the Sentra-Based Benz. You can still buy a decent Silverado for well under $40k, this is for the gluttony buyers who can..
The design from the back door to the end of the bed is of an Avalanche?
I took my 20s off for 18s, bit die to the size of this truck 20s would probably be perfect. 22s for some would be nice but 24s is just silly.
Better range, ride, braking and acceleration with 20s or 22s
Well, just stay on the pavement, and don’t get stuck in a blizzard overnight or it will become a coffin.

Full-on wretched excess in the face of massive scarcity and income inequity. What is gm thinking?
When the power grid is overloaded and down with melted Tesla’s everywhere, the price of fuel will not matter.
7000 pound truck… Err… Ghetto poser… 2in sidewalls. Nice.
I thought I saw this first lower price model is open for reservations and that the high priced model sold out in twelve minutes. Can I get a link to the reservations page on the EV Silverado?
