2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup Offers Console-Mounted Safe Accessory

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV made its big debut in October of 2020, reintroducing the iconic off-roading nameplate as an all-new, all-electric vehicle. In addition to battery-driven prowess off the black stuff, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV also offers a wide variety of optional extras and accessories, including a console-mounted safe.

The console-mounted safe for the 2022 GMC Hummer EV maintains use of the center console, including the armrest and the console lid, as well as access to the USB ports and power outlets. Designed to provide a discreet and highly secure location to place valuables inside the GMC Hummer EV, the console-mounted safe is made from 16 gauge steel with 1/8th inch welded steel components. The safe also includes two 10 tumbler double-bitted security keys. The box measures in at 11 inches in height, 16.25 inches in length, and 13.62 inches in width.

Installation of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV console-mounted safe does not require any drilling, but dealer installation is recommended. Pricing is set at $265.

In total, General Motors is offering nearly 200 GMC Hummer EV accessories. Some of the highlights include red-letter badging, an all-weather eTrunk mat, front and rear splash guards, and a set of accessory control switches.

As for motivation, the GMC Hummer EV is offered with several different powertrain options, including the range-topping three-motor setup producing a head-spinning 1,000 horsepower for the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1. The Hummer EV can also be had with a two-motor setup, with both an SUV and pickup truck body style offered.

Providing the underpinnings is the EV-centric GM BT1 platform, while GM’s Ultium battery technology and Ultium drive motor tech highlight the powertrain. Production takes place at the recently reopened GM Factory Zero plant, formerly known as GM Detroit-Hamtramck.

      1. They include it in all high-end trim trucks and SUVs, “Denali” for example. This tech is well-established and proven likable. 15 inches of information right in front of your eyes. Why not offer it as an option?

Well, at least they got OEM “All-Weather eTrunk Mat” accessory available to compete with WeatherTech.

    1. It’s better than nothing. You’re right this might be easy to get in, but it’s harder than just lifting the armrest.

      1. My suggestion is to go to some better 3rd party makers for this. If you don’t mind drilling into the console or floorboard that’s even better. A guy told me one time he would give me $20 if I could get into his safe in his ram in under 60 seconds, I had it open it 23.

        1. It’s more of a deterrent. If someone breaks into your vehicle the safe will be an unexpected obstacle for a smash and grab. Also, I don’t think you want anyone drilling into the console or floorboard of a vehicle that has a 200kWh battery under it. It could be the last thing they ever do.

    2. The druggies who smash-and-grab cars don’t have tools or skills. The other main reason why people buy these things is to hold a gun, the lock is just to satisfy legal requirements.

      1. People who are robbing at gun point and taking your vehicle are the ones you need to be concerned about. There have been 4 in the last 6 days in my city and this is the nice parts of town and yes they actually stole the vehicle not just break the window and go through the glove box. Hopefully anyone who does get this won’t be stupid enough to go in anywhere and leave the gun if they have one in this thing. I know the police here have said you will be held responsible if you do that and it gets stolen. I gotta be honest with you it’s not that hard even for druggies to get in these things they are more capable and desperate then most give them credit for. But I understand what you are saying.

        1. You misunderstand. States may have laws that say if you leave a gun in a vehicle unattended, or perhaps while driving, it has to be in a locked compartment and often they say the glove box doesn’t count.

A further factor is that these for SUVs and pickups without a trunk, so there can be issues with merely transporting a gun: many times the laws were written before SUVs and were intended to make people put the gun in the trunk. It’s something that varies significantly by state.

These vaults are often to satisfy those requirements, so you don’t get arrested and charged with a felony.

    1. Deliveries of the 1000 hp pickup (first series) are expected to start around the end of 2022 as I’ve been told by my dealer.

      1. Do you mean the end of 2021? The first production 1st Edition Hummer EV has already been delivered. The question now will be at what rate will they produce them. The Hummer EV 3X ($99,995 version) will be out later this year (2022).
