The second chart embedded here displays the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 towing capacity figures when the truck is equipped with a fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch. When equipped with the turbocharged 2.7L L3B gasoline engine, Silverado models with a gooseneck hitch will be able to tow up to 9,400 pounds. Models with the naturally aspirated 5.3L L84 V8 and 6.2L L87 V8 engines have max capacities of 9,900 pounds and 9,600 pounds, respectively. Lastly, the 3.0L LM2 inline-six turbodiesel Duramax has a max tow rating of 9,000 pounds with a gooseneck hitch.
In addition to these revised towing capacity figures, the all-new 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 also introduces a very long list of updates and changes over the pre-refresh models, including revised exterior styling, an overhauled cabin space, new technology, and the introduction of the off-road focused 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2.

Whenever I can actually build a truck, and don’t have to pay some stupid dealer markup, I’ll be doing a crew cab standard bed 4×4 3.0 duramax with max tow. I see aFe has a plug and play ‘tune’ now with cab mounted push button controller that has 4 select on the fly ‘tunes’, with the most aggressive upping power from 277 to 300hp and torque from 460lb-ft to 500lb-ft, gains through the revs and very similar curves.
Do we still talk about the Ram interiors?
I’m sure the the Ram interior can tow more than this. Let’s hear it…
Do you have a spec sheet on the lengths of the different 1500 Silverado models listed in the tow capability chart above? I need to know what will fit in my garage.
I hear ya. I bet that Ram interior can tow 20k or more if you get the heads up display lol.
I don’t want to see another article on this truck until the configurator is live.
I’m still confused to why 3.42’s were not the standard ratio for the ZR2. Seems like a no brainer to pull off the shelf for that slight performance bump that undoubtedly will flood the internet in countless ZR2 vs Raptor and TRX drag race comparisons.
Team Event Code 1100 here.
I am thinking of ordering either a GMC AT4 with the diesel CC std bed. I am hoping Costco’s build tool is wrong because it is showing that the AT4 is not available with the integrated brake controller which I want and when I add the $260 tow mirrors it forces a ton of other tech options that add around $6000 to the price of the truck! I miss the days of just picking what you want. Can’t seem to get adaptive cruise control by itself either. If that is the case I may switch to an SLT just to get the integrated brake controller (and better mileage)
Autobytel’s build is only forcing the Safety Plus package for around $1300 when you want the towing mirrors. Not as bad. They also list the integrated brake controller as standard so hopefully they are more accurate than Costco’s refresh build sheet. If only GM would just release theirs right!?
Lmfao, I was thinking the same thing. Wtf already gm?????????????
Online configurator
What is this with or without collapsed lifters? Asking because I’ve experienced twice on two separate GM vehicles
Get you a new Tundra for quality, it has some real “off the frame” performance…😉
GM is a mess with there company just like Slow sleepy Joe is with the country. GM does not communicate , every vehicle you see on there web site says in transit, yet you call the dealer and they dont know a thing. GM wants to build the new all electric golf carts trucks that look like a avlanche snap together model from the 80’s . Ram and Ford are not having this extent of problems
Great article, can you send me a similar trailering chart for the various 2022 Tahoe models?
What’s the 2023 Tahoe High Country towing capacity with the max trailering package and 3L diesel
Towing specs are useless without also listing payload, especially in the half ton market. Payload and no AFM are the top 2 reasons I own a 2021 2500 gas truck. Camper tongue weight plus passengers plus gear was too much for the payload rating on 90%+ 1500s
idk why people are down voting you, you 100% correct. Payload is the primary limiting factor on 1/2 ton trucks.
We can downvote what we want this is America.
I second this, ZR2 payload is approximately 1450lbs, Trailboss 1550lbs Texas Editions 1750lbs, I have yet to find a max trailer package on the lot to look at a sticker. I don’t know the difference between Texas edition and Max Tow Package.
I’m hoping for close to 2k with the diesel max tow since it increases to gvwr by 2000lbs. I havent been able to check any since we have none of them on the lots around here.
Hope ratings can match or beat the competition and the dependability and reliability is second to none. Oh yah this is a GM product. They claim to be the best. How can that be if you are not as good as all the rest?
I noticed negative thumbs down disappear..that’s bull…you either want the opinion or not
Just some moaners that either can’t move on nor can’t afford a new truck..
I can buy new any time I want. Diesel is what I buy. With the problems with the afm a new Yukon is not in the wife’s future though. There is a class action lawsuit now. Maybe that will wake GM up.$80000 and lifter noise or worse….no thank you……
That lawsuit will get dismissed faster than any election fraud claim lawsuit last year, good luck with the diesel.
I pressed thumbs down on your comment, just to see what happened. The counters went to “Zero”.
It always goes to zero after you click either one. That’s so you can’t up or down vote multiple times.
Hope ratings can match or beat the competition and the dependability and reliability and is second to none.
Is this the part you don’t like?
The rest is just my opinion.
Hope GM proves me wrong on that because I would hate to see another once great American Company go down the toilet like so many others.
Just don’t ask us about our new lowest in class mileage ratings or those pesky 5.3 oil burning and lifter issues going on since 2007!
We have recently taken delivery of a 2022 Trail Boss with the 3 litre diesel option. This truck drives well but we feel conned by GM. The trailering capacity in the article above is specified as 9100 lb for all Trail Boss models with NO qualifications. There was no option to increase to 13300 that we wanted. The plate on our truck specifies 8900 lb with a payload of 1538 lb some 200 lb lower than any other payload quoted. Can anyone tell us why?
Dodge and Ford will find this a great selling tool.
would love to know the payload capacity for the 6.2L with max trailering package. I’m looking at a 150 series 5th wheel which has a 1250lb pin weight ( trailer is 7300 dry). I’d rather this than drive a 2500 around all year, just to pull a travel trailer 4 times in a year.
