Which Chevy Logo Do You Prefer? Bow Tie Or Chevrolet Lettering?

The Chevy Bow Tie is about as iconic as it gets when it comes to automotive badging, with the design evolving relatively little over the more than 100 years since it was first introduced late in 1913. Now, however, some Chevy trucks are equipped with a new Chevrolet script across the front fascia. The question is – which do you prefer?

The traditional Chevy Bow Tie badge includes a flat bottom and top with angled sides, with a number of finishes offered, including gold and black. By contrast, the Chevrolet script declares the brand with large lettering that stretches across the grille, typically with a black finish.

While the Chevy Bow Tie can be seen across the Chevrolet lineup, the new Chevrolet lettering is found on WT, Custom, and Custom Trail Boss trim levels of the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500, as well as the Chevy Colorado ZR2, and Chevy Silverado HD WT, Custom, LT, and LTZ trim levels. The design is also found on some models of the international market Chevy S10.

Back in May, GM Authority was the first to cover the revised exterior and fascia design of the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500. As explained above, the fascia of certain 2022 Chevy Silverado trim levels incorporates a broad Chevrolet script across the nose, while a small Chevy Bow Tie or Z71 logo is added in the bottom driver’s side corner. The new grille design is complemented deletion of the previous design’s air curtains, as well as new headlight housings and a restyled lower bumper section.

From a purely aesthetic point of view, one could argue that that Chevy Bow Tie is the simpler, more-elegant solution, complementing the overall grille design without overcomplicating it. On the other hand, the large Chevrolet script may be more appropriate for the brand’s line of pickup trucks, which are meant to exude capability and a rough-and-ready attitude that fits in with the large lettering.

The question is, which do you prefer? Let us know by voting in the poll below, and make sure to subscribe to GM Authority for more Chevrolet news and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

    1. Bow tie, but it could be glorified some. It could use complimentary contrasting colors to go with the truck color, I.e. as the black bow tie on some models but other colors could also be used.

  13. Chevrolet is known for the gold bow tie. And fact, there was some discussion a few years ago as to what color the bow tie should be. I thought that the winner was gold. With that said, I have seen some modern day Chevrolets with the black colored bow tie.

In addition, I believe such tradititional and specialty cars such as the Corvette and Camaro should continue to have their own unique badges. The Corvette with the spread wings across the nose and the Camaro, the three colored red, white & blue vertical stripes with the script, “CAMARO” written acrose the top for either the nose or bottoms of the front fenders.

And I like the taste that you have offered such models within the Corvette/Camaro models. Such examples as SS, ZL1, ZO6, etc.

In closing don’t forget about being proud of the engine choices that you made known in the sixties with 317, 396, 409, 427 and so forth.

    Keep up the good work.

  41. Personal preference is the Gold bow tie and the other distinctions laid out by Gary Pippel. Down side the fact that GM wants to charge the purchaser to advertise there branding infuriates me. Also the fact that in past years some of the advertising is so cheap it falls off or fades in color. I can still go to auto re-cyclers and find 50’s, 60’s, 70’s emblems in decent to good condition not likely the same result with a 2009 Avalanche in 30 plus years..

  71. I prefer the black script. The gold bow tie looks antiquated and looks out of place. e.g. grandmas gold or beige car. I believe the Chevrolet script is more artistic and attracts a younger crowd. Note: In China, the bow tie is a close resemblance to the cross at the hospital. I spent 20+ weeks per year in China for many years in manufacturing. Several Chinese have told me that they don’t have a positive look at the bow tie because it looks like a hospital cross. All the hospitals have a big cross on the exterior of the building. That association might be hurting Chevrolet sales in China? Of course Buick is highly regarded in China due to the great marketing by GM as well as its reliability. e.g. Buick is well known as luxury high quality vehicle. Also, the business large vans used to shuttle executives are Buick due to their safety recognition.

  75. I will always remember the gold bow-tie on my parents ’50, ’51, and ’52 Chevrolets in the center of those dog dish hubcaps – old and ugly. I always thought the FoMoCo blue oval was more pleasing visually. But today I don’t mind the black and body colored bow-ties. Chevrolet is to many letters but its more than just the letters as I don’t find the work RAM attractive either. I wish someone could simply design a newer bow-tie however I also feel Cadillac cheapened their image with their modern crest emblem.

  98. BOTH NOT

It is Time to GM Review the Logos

As soon as for 2030 all Chevys Caddy & Buiqs be Electriq

And They killed beauty Logos, like the 1960 Oldsmobile Rocket, The Pontiac V and The Saturn Planet

And As The Called ‘Bow Tie’, is not really like a Bow Tie, seems more a Crux, it would change it for a Similar Butterfly One

If 2030 is EV Environmental friendly, the Hotel Wall Paper Of Room Got Old too

Do not know yet if would kill the Words ‘Chevrolet’, ‘Cadillac’ and ‘Buick’ and the Logos too, Probably Yes

Instead would do all electric GM BUTTERFLY, new Brand worldwide, rejointing the Brands in only 1, because Trend is so … and cars are too few in each, so about cost would reduce all, there is no sense in having in USA 6 SUVs that more or less are the same… so too similar SUVs in 3 Brands under same GM, would reduce this

Chevrolet reminds me Ancient, not futuristic, a French name of 1910 with Combustion Motors

Same as to Rolls Royce… a RR is something Precise Combustion Motor, Do not Know if RR Spectre fits…

So maybe would rebirth the most beautiful GM Logo, which was the 1960 Oldsmobile Rocket

Indeed the Lorem Ipsum seems interesting, two faces kissing in profile silhouette like a Butterfly… would go for something futuristic… have to design…

The New Trademarked Company is CHEBUICAD, ™ , ®, © The GM Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, GMC Integrated Co.

Chrysler used Panther Pink and Sassy Grass Green and both are very valuable today. It is all about well-coordinated execution! Step out of the doldrums but do it in a first class manner Kevin L

Chevrolet has the best in the business with the Impala (animal) and checkered flags of Corvette and Impala. Letters by themselves ie RAM do nothing visually and I thought Cadillac cheapened its image when it streamlined its crest a couple of years ago. I wish some designer could improve the bow-tie. Perhaps replacing the gold with the car’s actual body color would help. I’m not into the trend of everything “blacked out” (look like cheap cop cars) but black bow ties on black or silver Chevrolets look pretty good. I think the challenge remains with Chevrolet.
