The fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 debuted on October 21st with a long list of updates and changes over the preceding 2021 model year and pre-refresh 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited. Among these changes was revised styling for the pickup’s front end, and now, we’re taking another look at the nameplate’s refreshed nose, breaking it down by trim level.
First up is the 2022 GMC Sierra Pro, the base-model in the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra lineup. The base-model was previously called simply “Sierra,” but the name was changed with the 2022-model-year refresh. As the base-model in the lineup, the 2022 GMC Sierra Pro includes basic equipment such as standard 17-inch painted steel wheels, chrome-trimmed front and rear bumpers, and black plastic wheel wells. The door handles and sideview mirrors are done in black as well. The Pro trim level also does not include the revised interior layout like the rest of the lineup. That said, LED lighting and the GMC Pro Safety suite of active safety technology are included as standard.
Next we have the 2022 GMC Sierra SLE, which features the same revised front fascia as the rest of the lineup, but with a gray finish for the grille insert. Unlike the Pro, the SLE does include the updated interior, which features a standard 13.4-inch diagonal center touchscreen and 12.3-inch diagonal Driver Information Center.
The 2022 GMC Sierra Elevation is in the middle of the trim level cadence and features a monochromatic exterior trim treatment with a gloss black grille and unique 20-inch wheels, plus black tow hooks in the front bumper. Above the Elevation is the GMC Sierra SLT, which features silver grille slat inserts.
The 2022 GMC Sierra AT4 and AT4X, the latter of which is new for the 2022-model-year refresh. Both the AT4 and AT4X feature a more rugged appearance with a dark finish for the grille inserts and red tow hooks, as well as the removal of the front air dam for greater clearance.
Finally, we have the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali and Denali Ultimate, both of which are equipped with a Signature Denali grille design. The grille on the Denali sports a polished chrome finish, while the grille on the Denali Ultimate sports a Denali Vader finish complemented by silver-gray GMC badge. The lower bumper trim on both models is silver, as are the tow hooks.
As a reminder, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered with four powertrain options, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine (which now produces 20 percent more torque for a maximum of 420 pound-feet), the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax. Under the skin, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 rides on the GM T1 platform. The first refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 models will arrive in dealers in Q1 of 2022, with production slated to take place at the GM Silao plant in Mexico and GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana.

Always been a Silverado owner but GMCs design team seems to be winning this sibling rivalry.
OK…That ain’t hard.
I’m pretty sure Chevy is trying to appeal to the Ford crowd a little more. It’s hard to win over buyers when you focus on just what your normal customers want. I’m a Chevy guy myself, but GMC is just speaking my language
It would be nice if we could see all of the Chevy’s.
8 grills but still the same old black crappy interior, give us more interior colors without having to spend 80k on Denali Ultimate to get brown.
GMC is challenging RAM design while Silverado fights Ford.
All grills are Brandon approved!
All good looking grill options. But I think more engine choices would be good to offer too.
The V6 was a very reliable option and could have easily been refined for one last time prior to the 2030 – 2035 Electric changeover.
From the owner desk of a K2XX All Terrain: AT4X should have a supercharged 6.2 to compete with Raptor and TRX.
Please do this for the Silverado. The thing I don’t like about this is the painted bumper/surfaces in the front. We have bugs and it’s difficult to keep them off the paint.
I agree, painted bumpers looks terrible in most trim levels. It’s just cheaper to manufacture. I love chrome, old fashion perhaps, but the chrome piece in front of the hood is just too much. The 2021 Denali front grill and bumper had the right amount chrome. Overall the entire refresh looks good.
Painted bumpers are not for me.
They seem to be a magnet for rock chips and if you keep your rig long-term they are the first thing to rot.
Please do the silverado version of this ?
My friend traded his 2019 SLT(X31) for a 2022, same SLT(X31), his 2022 has the same grille and dash as his 2019????
There is a stop gap version of the Silverado and GMC with the year 2022 on it. It’s the 2021 version before the 2022 new refresh comes out. Kinda of dumb and causing confusion. RAM called theirs the Classic, it was the GEN4 truck and kept manufacturing it until this year. Since it is not listed on their web site I’m assuming it’s no longer available for 2022 model year.
Congrats your friend is an impatient idiot for not waiting for the refresh and getting raked over the coals for the same exact truck he traded in
Just warmed over crap on the new trucks. Nothing has changed enough so I would pay all the extra money to get the same truck I already have. Now if they had one of the new 5.5 supercharged engines and put a lot more chrome and fancy wheels on the high end models I would be interested in trading. But with how the American big three go down in value so fast it is hard not to look at a Toyota next time I trade. They run forever well over 300,000 miles without any problems and they hold their value so much better. Some models are worth as much in 5 years as you pay for them. Not like the big 3 that lose more than half value in 3 years. I am driving a 2017 GMC Denali and I have 8300 miles on it. I paid over $65,000.00 for and it has never seen snow or rain. Dealers only want to allow me $30,000.00 on trade on a $80,000.00 truck with nothing much I don’t already have. Over the last 40 years I have bought over 45 new GMC’s and Chevrolets and this will probably be my last GM product as of the high prices and low trade in value.
Russell-That’s at least a $45,000.00 truck you own even on trade. The dealer is jerking you around.
I have to agree with CKN after checking used prices. The dealers are lowballing you. Minimum $45,000. If you’re really firm, you should be able to score over $50,000 because of the chip shortage.
I love to hear stories of the wonderful dealers and their scruples.
30 large is probably the price he has on 14 SLE with well north of 100k on the ODO.
Nice lineup, would like to see similar for Silverado.
Out of these I really like the AT4, AT4X, SLT
Love it I can smell the cheap plastic through my screen.
That would be your cheap phone…
I like how GMC kept the front end design the same on all models, If you want to upgrade all you have to do is buy a level up grill. The Chevrolet LT and upper trim level front facia looks great but the work truck front end is terrible and there is no easy way to change it. I wish Chevrolet would have done this with Silverado!
Looks like the front end of the 2016 Grand Cherokee. Just wish they’d make the trucks less bloated. The new Sierra/Silverado won’t fit in my garage.
Elevation looks best, body color hides that odd “top hat” looking piece that give the truck an “I just got a facelift” look!
Best looking Full size pickup from the Big Three
God the front looks way overdone.
