The 2022 GMC Savana represents the 19th model year of the nameplate. Both the passenger and cargo vans ride on the GM GMT 610 platform, and offer identical powertrain options, which include the 4.3L LV1 V6, 6.0L L96 Vortec V8, 6.0L LC8 Vortec V8, and Duramax turbo-diesel 2.8L LWN I4 engines. Notably, both 6.0-liter eight-cylinder engine options have been deleted for the 2021 model year, and replaced by the 6.6-liter L8T V8 engine, along with other minor changes and updates.
While it is currently unclear when or if a next-generation Express will reach the market, we do know that the current model will continue to be sold through the 2023 calendar year. GM has provisions to extend production through 2025, if it deems necessary. Each model year will likely include minor changes, updates, and improvements, which has been the case since the inception of the current models.
In the meantime, several all-new battery-electric models are on the way to replace the two models. First will be the BrightDrop EV600 and BrightDrop EV410. These will be followed with a future electric Chevy commercial van, whose name has yet to be revealed. It’s currently unclear whether GM will offer a GMC version.

Is GM making full size Savana and Express vans? Someone must know the answer to this simple question..
I looked at the other vans. Mainly the RAM. But it does not look good unless you by the elevate roof version but it won’t fit in my garage. I looked at the regular height RAM and it just looks too ughly and dinky and the Ford Transit just turns me off. I hope they extend this van to 2025 since the price went up.
The Dodge is quite ugly. The reason the Dodge is not a contender for me is that it is front wheel drive and of unibody construction (no full frame) the Honda Ridgeline is built that way and tries hard to compete with Chevy Dodge and Ford as a real truck with little success. Ford Transit doesn’t have a ladder style frame either and insists on turbocharging V6’s to get the same power as a non turbo V8. I have the same issues with the Mercedes’ Sprinter plus the outrageous prices.
Please GM, start making these vans again and make them with a real 4X4 option and to tap into the Class B motor home maybe an extended roof version. A total redesign would not be necessary for these minor changes. You have the best van out there with its current bones.
