Radar detectors are a popular aftermarket modification among sports car owners for what should be fairly obvious reasons, but C8 Corvette Stingray owners could run into a small problem when using a radar detector in their vehicles, as indicated by a recent post on the GM TechLink website.
The article says some C8 Corvette Stingray owners have complained that their driver-side outside mirror displayed a poor operation and appearance, including numerous lines shown in the mirror and a dim reflection at all times. This problem has been traced back to the installation of an aftermarket radar detector, which, depending on the installation location, may send a higher voltage to the mirror.
This problem is caused when the jumper harness for the aftermarket radar detector is added to the mirror’s X1 connector, which is located behind the front cover of the inside rearview mirror.
If a customer experiences this problem, technicians will disconnect the jumper harness and replace the damaged outside rearview mirror. Vehicle damage resulting from aftermarket devices is not covered under warranty, so owners should be cognizant of this before plugging a radar detector into any of the vehicle’s ports.
With a naturally aspirated 6.2L LT2 V8 engine producing 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, it’s easy to see why C8 Corvette Stingray owners may want to get an aftermarket radar detector. These devices can detect police radar waves and alert the driver behind the wheel, reducing the chance they will incur a fine and/or penalty for speeding.
GM was forced to halt production of the C8 Corvette Stingray this week after a major tornado passed through Kentucky and damaged the GM Bowling Green Assembly plant. As such, all hourly workers at the facility have been temporarily laid off, although skilled trades workers remain on the job.

This does message home that GM should offer more accessory power. EQS has six 100W USB-C PD ports. One or two in places away from the 12V DC outlets would be nice.
Most radar detectors will probably migrate to USB-C PD over this decade. A Type-C PD outlet next to the mirror hopefully is something GM is paying attention to.

Is there a recommended way to connect a radar detector w/o having to have a cord dangling down to your cigarette lighter.
The only other power jacks are one USB mini and a USB C in the center console (one permanently connected 12 power socket in the front trunk not much of an alternate option).
Certainly a significant anoying limitation in a sport-luxury vehicle, leading to this poorly engineered aftermarket solution.
Tuck the cord into the headliner and A-pillar trim.
One more thing to go wrong with the C 8 we have a C8 club with over120 members and every week some body has a problem a few trannies lots of recalibration a lot of check engine lights

That’s not fair after sinking 85 K’S. Then you go to the dealer and it takes you four days to get and oil&filter change
In some states it is illegal to use radar detectors. Also, radar detectors do not process laser type speed detectors.
