American data analytics and consumer intelligence company J.D. Power has identified GMC as the top-ranked brand in the recent J.D. Power 2021 Mexico Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study.
The J.D. Power 2021 Mexico APEAL Study is based on responses from 6,733 original owners of various 2018 through 2020 model-year vehicles. The study was fielded between May and September of the 2021 calendar year, and was designed as a means of measuring the emotional attachment and excitement felt by new-vehicle owners after purchasing their new vehicle.
Based on customer responses in various vehicle attributes, each brand was then given a score on a 1,000-point scale, with higher scores corresponding with higher customer satisfaction. In the latest J.D. Power 2021 Mexico APEAL Study, GMC scored 925 points, placing it at the top of the Premium Brand segment ranking.
In total, four premium brands were studied. Mercedes-Benz was second with 916 points, followed by BMW in third with 897 points and Audi in fourth with 881 points. The Premium segment average was 899 points.
Meanwhile, in the Mass Market Brand ranking, Jeep topped the list with 905 points, followed by Mazda in second with 904 points and Hyundai in third with 892 points. In total, 15 mass market brands were studied. The only other GM brand studied was Chevrolet, which was last in the Mass Market segment with 847 points. The Mass Market segment average was 873 points.
According to J.D. Power, the gap in APEAL scores between Premium brands and Mass Market brands declined with the latest 2021 APEAL Study, down to 26 points as compared to 35 points in 2020 and 62 points in 2019.
J.D. power identifies engine and transmission quality as the most important driver for satisfaction in the APEAL study. In related news, GMC also topped the Premium brand segment in the latest J.D. Power 2021 Mexico Vehicle Dependability Study, as GM Authority covered previously.
