GM Design Team Releases Swoopy Buick Crossover Sketch

The crossover body style is popular for a number of reasons, including the added practicality, as well as the easy, car-like driving characteristics. However, when it comes to styling, making a crossover that looks good can be tricky. Now, however, the GM Design team is showing how it’s done with the following swoopy Buick crossover sketch.
Recent posted to social media, this Buick crossover sketch was created by GM Exterior Designer Hakan Demir, and includes a single profile image of a concept vehicle that looks ready for the show car circuit.
Up front, the Buick crossover sketch features a very short overhang with a chiseled front fascia and narrow lighting elements with a checkmark shape. The front end draws back towards large fenders with enormous plus-sized wheels, the latter of which sport multiple, Y-shaped split spokes with a bright silver finish. The inner wheel center cap gets the Tri-Shield Buick logo.
Working towards the middle of the Buick crossover concept, we find the body pinches around the mid-section to enhance the visual diameter of the wheels, giving the crossover even more of a sporty vibe. Black trim runs around the outer edge of the fenders and lower perimeter of the body. Up top, the greenhouse is chopped down to a very low-swooping line running down to the rear of vehicle in a single arc.
The upper edge of the window line is trimmed in silver, complementing further silver trim added to the lower body line. The rear pillar joins the creased window line and rear glass into a sort of X-shaped joint, pinpointing the focus for the tail section above the large rear wheels.
The rear end incorporates similar checkmark-shaped lighting as the front end, plus another short overhang. We also don’t see a clear exhaust pipe, so perhaps this could be used as inspiration for a future electric vehicle.
For now, we already see influences in modern Buick crossover models like Envision and Enclave. Granted, this concept is not exactly “production-friendly,” but the look is attractive all the same.

Think Buick should do a PLC (personal luxury crossover), Electria 2 door would be a good fit.
I think the brand Buick could really do well in the luxury segment if GM elevates Buick and not be a slightly better Chevy.
Agreed. Keep Chevy as the “base” models; GMC competes with Land Rover, Buick should be elevated to Audi/Mercedes level, and Cadillac should be moved up to Bentley/Porsche levels at least. Corvette can compete with McLaren and Lamborghini, but they need to remain sports cars. Camaro if need be can turn into a brand if they want “hot” SUVs and whatnot. The actual Camaro would be the halo vehicle in that brand.
That’s how I’d do it, unless I also brought back Saturn as a high-tech “everyman” EV brand to compete with Tesla and the potential Apple and Sony cars.
Buick should be a luxury badge. No need to worry about sales cannibalization when you see how the brands at VW cross price points.
Buick should copy the 1990’s rise of Audi and keep Buick understated while leaving the bling for Cadillac. GMC keeps moving upmarket and it’s US stable mate must do the same.
Beetje plat slaan en zie hier de nieuwe Insignia C.
I think there is market out there between basic and luxury — Chevy and Cadillac. Today the lines are blurred – Chevy’s atp is over $50,000 (which is a bit insane in itself). The trick for Buick to develop/design vehicles that speak to that market. I think the new gen 2 Envision is a step in that direction. The older i get the more I see companies like Buick as relevant – I have no desire to own a luxury vehicles but would like something a step-up from a Chevy, but I don’t want some warmed over Chevy product which Encore/Encore GX/Enclave all are
Buick is the only GM brand that is interesting for me. I’m a car guy but Envision is like a car. China only GEM Encore is beautiful
I don’t want the future vehicles to look like this at all, I like the current styling features on about 85% of new vehicles and would like them to stay very similar to how they are now cosmetically. Maybe some new tweaks and refresh’s every once in a while, but not this!
Looks like the Electra and Enspire concepts merged.
Looks like a roller skate in profile. Not good.
Looks like the tires are flat
yeah, what is it riding on? It needs rails.
It looks Ghetto with 30inch wheels
… seems those fresh Indian guys who make all a drawing like this in linkedin,
immense wheels and tiny greenhouse, full of them in interneta, also Mexico
This is great for people who don’t have a neck. Headroom is worse than the Camaro.
Looks great, but the Avista concept would make a perfect addition to Buicks line up.
NO , NO , NO ,Please Don’t
…and the wheels get bigger and bigger. Would ride like a buckboard. One pot hole would result in a concussion.
The larger the wheel in diameter the smoother the ride! I have a 1992 Civic with 13″ wheels – try that on a pothole!
H2Os, 1 inch high side walls will never smooth out the ride. I have 20″ run flats on my Camaro with 45 series in front, 35 series in the rear. On bumpy roads it beats you to death. I’m not complaining since I didn’t get a Camaro 1SS as a cruiser. However tire companies love this tires, far less rubber needed to manufacture and at a much higher selling price.
And a $4K bill for a replacement tire and wheel.
Another boring crossover. Not everybody likes SUV´s and crossovers or is willing to buy one no matter what. My last Buick was a Regal and I will not buy another Buick until they produce a sedan or a sports coupe. It´s a shame that a company that gave us the GNX, the Riviera, the Century, the GTO or the Firebird, the only thing that has to offer today are boring cookie cutter SUV´s and crossovers. I really hope the actual SUV cancer ends asap in order to see decent cars on the market again,
Buick and a Hot Wheels car, lol, lol.
Did someone about 12 years old from the Hot Wheels design Studio draw this ?
Where is it written that every design concept must have:
1. Ridiculously oversized wheels
2. Ridiculously high belt line
3. Ridiculously small windows
Can we please get some design creativity?
This is getting ridiculous!
the guy after researches is Turkey Creative School in Detroit, so from USA school
That’s how almost all artist sketches start out. It’s the automotive equivalent of fashion designers sketching outfits on models 7 ft tall and 80 lbs. It’s up to the other designers to turn it into something more practical (and street-legal). Early sketches aren’t usually shown to the public because they set unrealistic expectations.
It’s a two door sedan with a hatchback but don’t ever call it a hatch!
no, seems those big foot coupe to smash cars in arena
of course not elegant, but extreme 18 years old childish
clear not a Buick, but what is really a Buick Form Shape ?
then we go with this china design other day instead. GL8
Huh? You need a better English translator.
fu for example
It’s not even two door. If you look closely at the sketch there are no doors at all. If something like this were to be approved for production, it would turn into a four-door model.
they literally copied the rally fighter by local motors
That’s about the ugliest thing I’ve seen. I’d never buy one. I’ll stick to my gas power vehicles that look good.
me too
A donk and a Murano have one night of passion, and this is the result.
What makes this a crossover? It looks like a two-door coupe. Or might Buick back away from offering only crossovers in the US?
