General Motors has filed to trademark Infinite Route, GM Authority has uncovered.
Filed on December 14th, 2021 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the application is assigned serial number 97170994. The application carries a Nice Classification category of 09, which is primarily reserved for information technology equipment and other similar electronics. Under the Goods and Services category, the application lists a use case of “downloadable and recorded computer software for the semi-autonomous driving of motor land vehicles.”
Considering the application directly references semi-autonomous driving of motor land vehicles, it’s rather obvious that Infinite Route is a potential name for a future General Motors self-driving technology or strategy. GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system has already been available for a few years now and will eventually be joined by a more advanced hands-free system called Ultra Cruise, which will be capable of operating in 95 percent of all driving scenarios.
It’s not clear what role Infinite Route will play in GM’s self-driving technology framework, although the name seems to hint it could pertain to navigational directions or driving routes. GM said previously that Ultra Cruise will be capable of following “internal navigation routes,” which suggests the system will also be able to follow pre-set directions and potentially change the directions in real-time.
Ultra Cruise will launch on select GM models in 2023, with the Cadillac luxury brand the first to introduce the technology. It’s therefore likely that Infinite Route will be applied to a feature on a Cadillac vehicle first – that’s of course assuming this trademark will be used on a GM product at some point in the future.
As GM Authority reported last week, the automaker is planning to unveil a new Cadillac autonomous vehicle at CES 2022 early next month. We could therefore learn more about Infinite Route at CES, but we’ll have to wait for the show to kick off on Jan. 5th to know for sure.
We’ll keep up to date on this story as more information becomes available, but in the meantime, be sure to subscribe to GM Authority for more GM trademark news, GM technology news, and around-the-clock General Motors news coverage.

Interesting… I wonder if this will download the specifics for trip into the onboard navigation?
Infinite route almost sounds more like a commercial application, like a delivery truck or robo taxi where they are automatically routing the next trip on their own without someone having to input the addresses manually. But who knows, hard to say

It’s possible.
