General Motors will begin accepting reservations for the new Chevy Silverado EV immediately following the vehicle’s debut on January 5th, 2022.

The American automaker will unveil the highly anticipated battery-electric version of its Chevy Silverado pickup at CES 2022 in Las Vegas next month. It will begin accepting reservations on the same day, with customers able to register their interest in the vehicle through Chevy’s website.

As we reported previously, the Chevy Silverado EV will be shown during the opening keynote speech for CES 2022, which will be delivered by GM CEO Mary Barra. The truck will ride on GM’s dedicated BT1 electric truck platform and will utilize its Ultium modular battery pack design and Ultium Drive electric motors. Other available features will include four-wheel-steering, 24-inch wheels and a large fixed-glass roof. The truck is expected to boast more than 400 miles of estimated driving range on a full charge in certain configurations.

“Designed as an EV from the ground up, the Silverado electric pickup harnesses the best of the Ultium Platform and Silverado’s proven capability,” the automaker said in a statement. “The fleet and retail versions of the electric Silverado will offer customers a variety of options and are expected to be in high demand.”

The Chevy Silverado EV will be built alongside the GMC Sierra Denali EV at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan. This facility currently produces the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and will eventually add the GMC Hummer EV SUV and Cruise Origin robotaxi to its roster, as well. The Hummer EV Pickup began rolling off the assembly line at the newly renovated plant last week.

  1. Price it competitive to Ford or they’ll eat gm’s cake, none of this 80k crap!

    1. I’d imagine starting price will be similar, but top end higher – especially with 4 wheel steer and much further range. But you can almost bet they start with the higher trims first

On paper it’s a much better platform than Lightning’s retrofitted F150 ladder. There real heat will be when Ford releases their fully developed EV truck for 2026ish

      1. Let’s see Lightning Platinum fully loaded is $90K, has 280 miles of range, and charges at 150 kW.

Silverado E will have better technology (SuperCruise > BlueCruise) better range at 400+ miles, 350 kW 800V charging, glass roof, 4 wheel steering, more power, quicker acceleration, and better tow rating. How much will the Silverado E fully loaded cost ? if I was a betting man it will come in under $90K GM has a battery cost advantage with their Ultium buildout. GM can sell more batteries for less money and still be profitable

One think I hope GM does is the VTG and VTV tech like Ford has, as I think that is the kind of feature that will change peoples purchase loyalty.

I also suspect the Silverado E will be available with a longer bed, and maybe even 2 cab configurations.

I think Silverado E will sell out several years worth of production before it ever gets to the market in early 2023.

      2. Speculation in the media on the Denali EV is starting at $69k as a luxury vehicle. They said the work and fleet Chevy will be well below that.

        $50’s.? Will know Jan 5th.

        1. NOPE… WRONG!!!!!!

Work and fleet model with 2XX miles of range will be in the 40’s High Country or Denali with 4XX mile range with be at least $79K Likely closer to $90K when fully loaded.

The EV versions will not be cheaper then the gas versions if you compare like for like, mark my words! Right now a 2022 Denali Ultimate gas is over $80K

GMC Sierra EV will only be offered in Denali trim initially (per GM press release)

Think about this, If they offered the EV version which is faster, better in almost every way cheaper then the Gas version, they would crush their 2022 GMC Denali Ultimate sales, which is their money maker, I cannot even begin to tell you how dumb your pricing logic would be if that is what GM did.

  2. Hope they come up with a better name than just Silverado “E”. Many Ford commercials featuring the “exciting” new lighting already all over the football games. GM late to the party and a lame name too boot. They better step it up.

    1. I expect Ford to take the plunge and move up the F-150 Lightning production sooner so by the time GM begins Silverado E produvtion, Ford has a huge lead, taking some of the Silverado E reservations and sales. Ford can kill both GM and Tesla in the EV truck market.

      1. Wrong… Ford is battery constrained, as is GM today, but that will change for GM in mid/late 2022 when the Lordstown battery plant comes online, and for Ford in 2025 when their SK partnership comes online.

Ford will get off to a quicker start, and GM will come flying past in mid 2023, and Ford will never catch up after that. GM started building battery infrastructure 2 years ago, Ford still has not broken ground on their battery infrastructure. By the end of 2023 GM will have Hummer EV SUV/SUT, Silverado E, and GMC Sierra E in full production, Ford will max out SK innovations little battery factory in Georgia which has not started production of anything yet. F150 will start in the spring 2022 likely getting batteries from Korea unless SK steps on the gas with their little battery factory in GA that is still under construction.

  3. I think it needs a special name also. GM should have a contest and give the winner a new Silverado.

  4. They can’t get the Bolt right, paying up in the millions for recalls because of the batteries so what makes you think they will get this right ?? Now, more issues with the 5.3 and 6.2 V8’s lifters, etc. Come on GM get it right, you are not the corporation I remember you as in the 60’s.

    1. Really? GM had problems in the 60’s too… and for the record LG Chem is paying for the Bolt recall because they sold GM defective batteries. BTW recall repairs are going quick, and customers with new battery packs seems quite happy, new battery and new warranty, even if their car has 100K miles already, hard to beat that deal.

    2. GM had way more issues in the 60s, there just wasn’t much competition for comparison. Now, the Japanese brands have showed them what true reliability looks like. Too bad they still can’t figure it out.

  5. I will for sure be putting my name on the list. The Lightning is a compromise to get to market faster. This will be a dedicated EV platform (shared with the Hummer EV truck/SUV), which is what Ford is working toward with the next version of the Lightning. What they are making now is a gap filler. Everyone mentions the $40k price for the Lightning, but the vast majority of Lightnings sold will not be that, they will be in the $60-90k range, and the high volume of Silverado E (hope they do something better with the name too) will be in that range as well, but vastly outperform in range, power, and charging speed. The Silverado will not be as big as the Lightning (cabin size), but hopefully they will match the bed size.

    1. I’ve tried finding where anything mentions different cabin size on the E vs the Lightning, but I’m coming up short. Where’d you see that? I hope that’s not the case
