General Motors unveiled the updated 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 in October, pulling the sheets on a fully refreshed pickup truck with a long list of updates and changes, including a new interior layout for all trim levels except the base-model 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Pro. Now, we’re checking out this interior design sketch courtesy of the General Motors Design team.
Recently posted to the GM Design social media feed (@generalmotorsdesign), this refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra interior sketch depicts the Denali trim level, and comes equipped with a broad variety of handsome features. For example, the trim bits include wood and soft-touch upholstery, as well as brushed silver for highlights.
The tech spec includes a 13.4-inch diagonal center touchscreen and 12.3-inch diagonal Driver Information Center, while the steering wheel was made transparent along the upper run to show off the screen underneath. Placed higher up on the dash is a head-up display, while in the center console is a new Electronic Precision Shifter. Don’t forget the row of hard buttons under the screen.
While the final production version doesn’t follow this design sketch perfectly, it is quite similar.

As a reminder, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is available with several powertrain options, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, which now produces 20 percent more torque for a total of 420 pound-feet, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax. The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 once again rides on the GM T1 platform. The initial units of the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will arrive in dealers in Q1 of the 2022 calendar, with production slated to take place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and the GM Silao plant in Mexico, plus the GM Oshawa plant in Canada once renovations there are complete.

Shoulda put that interior in the refreshed trucks.
I see some retro cues in the design. I love it.
What is the time frame for the GM Oshawa plant in Canada to have renovations complete and start production?
They already started last month. They started with the HD models

I like the design BUT more info on wireless phone hot hard wired, cell phone charging. I don’t see a charging pad? I like the console shifter, make it fold down to have more free space! Provide additional towing screen info, like wireless cameras and increased rang for TMPS use on longer trailers.

How about a better idea instead of a gimmick folding shifter that can fail and not work in 5 years, maybe move the damn shifter somewhere else where it isn’t in the way? There is zero reason it should be there, no benefit what so ever. Transmissions are so smart no one touches them and once in a blue moon you may lock out a gear going down a mountain. They should have (and probably/hopefully will) move it to a shifter stalk next gen on the column. The research group I went to had tons of sketches with shifter stalks on the column, that is 100% the best idea as it is completely out of the way of the console and dash. It shuts up those who whine about buttons or knobs and completely frees up the console for space and room to store and put stuff.
Yah, but nobody listens to your worthless comments. Your the one who prefers hard plastics and no display screens! You want a man truck with 5 gallon buckets for seats.
Guess you never owned a stick shift car OR trucks. I owned many, AND yes I still remember 3 on the tree.
Similar to the production version, but I like the sketch a lot better. Clearly not practical for all trims, but the sketch is exactly what the Ultimate should have been right down to the last detail. I really wish they would have stuck with their original thought of pulling color into the dash top. It would have made it much more cohesive with the seats and door sides. A couple missed opportunities on the production version but still a very nice interior.
Any word about the interior of the Yukon Denali? Will it have the same configuration as the Sierra Denali?
I don’t like it for a truck dash. Remind me of a older luxury Buick , caddy.
Hehehe!
I know one thing, GM/Chevrolet got it right….with the screen going predominantly horizontal vs. other manufacturers screens going predominantly vertical. Those tall vertical screens look hideous!!! Good move GM!!
Once again, the bean counters killed a good design. This is what should have been in the high end. This crap about GM letting engineers run the show is just that, crap! The interior they went with was ok, but not where it needs to be.
