General Motors has just unveiled the all-new Chevy S10 Max in Mexico, an unprecedented mid-size pickup that expands Chevrolet‘s truck offering and introduces a new nameplate for emerging markets. As such, the brand-new 2023 Chevy S10 Max made its world debut in the Latin country as the automaker’s new work-focused, entry-level midsize pickup.
The 2023 Chevy S10 Max is a totally new model in the Chevrolet portfolio, unrelated to the Chevy S10 made in Brazil, which shares its platform and many mechanical components with the U.S.-market Colorado. Actually, the all-new S10 Max arises from GM’s alliance with SAIC Motors to strengthen the Bow Tie brand’s competitiveness in the midsize pickup segment in Mexico and potentially other emerging countries.
As a matter of fact, the all-new Chevy S10 Max is a rebadged Maxus T70 that becomes the first vehicle from a third-party Chinese brand, and the first China-made pickup, that GM will market as a Chevrolet model. It represents the brand’s third midsize truck worldwide after the North American Chevy Colorado and the S10/Colorado on the international market, being a kind of successor to the defunct Chevy D-Max in the lower part of the segment.
“At Chevrolet, we seek new ways to satisfy our customers, and with the arrival of the S10 Max pickup, we will provide our customers with a comfortable vehicle that has the capabilities and performance necessary for daily work,” said Marketing Manager for Chevrolet at GM Mexico, Yammil Guaida, in a statement. “The S10 Max formula guarantees an excellent value proposition,” he added.
From a styling standpoint, the all-new Chevy S10 Max has a robust and modern design that’s identical to the entry-level versions of the SAIC Motors pickup, with the gold Chevy logo as the only distinction. In Mexico, the new S10 Max will be offered in Chassis Cab, Regular Cab and Crew Cab configurations as a versatile work tool with which GM Mexico will be able to compete for the first time with the Nissan NP300, the absolute leader in the segment.

The image of this 2023 Chevy S10 Max shows an automatic transmission, but only manual transmissions have been confirmed by GM for now.
The all-new 2023 Chevy S10 Max will arrive in Mexico in the second quarter of next year imported from China in one trim level. The powertrain lineup will consist of two gasoline engines, including a naturally aspirated 2.4L engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a range-topping, turbocharged 2.0L engine manufactured by SAIC-GM that works in conjunction with a six-speed manual.

GMC – General Motors China??
Here is how China works. They have a large mfg base and it entails everything from huts to some of the most advanced mfg plants in the world.
There is little oversight so the quality can go from horrid to the best you can find.
What governs the difference, often it is oversight and set standards by the mfg.
I deal with parts mfg there and they make a car part as well as anyone. How do we guard quality in plant oversight. In a number of plant imbedded Americans oversee QA and production to endure no short cuts or cost cutting is made.
I have a brake mfg that has no over site with a rotor mfg he uses. He said if they stick to the blueprints they are as good as any. But he said when he orders everyone speak English. But if something goes wrong no one speaks English.
China wants to be a first world leader but they still operate as a second world like country. It is no different in Mexico and many other low cost labor countries.
The real driver of this is people want good paying jobs here but then the go buy low cost imported products.
Decades ago it was American labor vs American. Today it is American vas cheap global labor.
American want to live the dream but they don’t always want to get the education or learn the skills to get the higher paying jobs.
You don’t have to go to Harvard to make six figures. My father in law made 6 figures welding. He retired and they have had a hard time replacing him. They still call him for special jobs because they still lack hood labor. The two biggest problems is failed drug test and people just calling off too much.
China is not going to go away but it is not to late to control them with tough policy and economics. We had a good handle on the but our recent leadership took the pressure off.
We should not fear China for their crap but we should fear that in time they lose the crap and continue to make high quality items cheaper than we can.
Wow this is he most ugly gm build
its clear now that Mary Barra hasn’t a clue what’s she doing, the sooner GM go bust the better.
I’m 76 and a lifelong GM owner since 16, never been. Ford guy. But I have to give them credit – they’ve been innovative lately – Bronco and Maverick NAmerica – made. Why can’t GM do the same? Build the truck in NAmerica, update the platform – 6 spd manual, turbo 4 cyl, 4 wd – I’d be all over it. FWIW, this is not a political statement and nothing political partisan is implied. Just wish GM would get back to the innovate role. Im looking to replace my 100,000 mikes 2015 Chevy Silverado reg cab and can’t seem to pull the trigger anything GM makes – maybe a Canyon ext cab 4 wd, but I’m lukewarm.
Found interestingly that for some reason Australia is importing this from Maxus China
And they are by no means an Emerging Market
yup, we get it as the LDV T60, good seller.
Looks like a Chinese car disguised as a Chevrolet.
that’s exactly what it is. a Chinese vehicle sold as a Chevrolet.
I just purchased two new cars and didn’t even consider any GMT product. Our government gave them billions of dollars to bail them out and they screw the United by going to Brazil and Mexico. They just keep giving us the finger.
Well said!
We in the US have made China a world power, keep buying their junk and they will own us…
