The battle between the Chevy Corvette and Ford Mustang has been raging for nearly six decades, but you’ve never seen it like this. That’s because the folks over at Hoonigan are once again bringing out the 1,400-horsepower, all-wheel drive, all-carbon Hoonicorn to do battle with this 4,000-horsepower NHRA Corvette C6 in a heads-up drag race.
For those folks who may be drawing a blank, the Hoonicorn was created to kill tires in the Hoonigan’s viral Gymkhana video series, burning up the rubber with a force-fed 6.7-liter Roush Yates racing engine. In its current form, the V8 sports twin turbochargers and methanol, with flames shooting through the open exhaust in the hood. Output is sent to four gummy tires through a Sadev SC90-24 six-speed sequential transmission, with curb weight rated at just under the 3,000-pound mark.
It’s quite the setup, and it has shown impressive performance in the past. However, the Hoonigan folks are upping the ante with the challenger, setting the ’65 Mustang up against professional NHRA drag racer Alex Laughlin and his Pro Stock C6 Corvette. Making the go is an 8.6L Hemi V8, which was fitted with an absolutely enormous supercharger and three-speed Lenco transmission. Curb weight is about 2,800 pounds.
Both cars are impressive, but before you start making your predictions, there are a few details worth considering. The first is the track. Rather than hitting a sticky drag strip, this battle will take place on a dusty air strip, which means that despite the Corvette’s massive rear drag rubber, the all-wheel drive Mustang could have the traction advantage.
The drivers are also a critical factor here. We’ve already mentioned that Laughlin will be piloting the Corvette. However, as it turns out, the Hoonicorn won’t have Ken Block behind the wheel. Instead, the ‘Stang will be piloted by Block’s daughter, Lia, who’s been training for high-performance driving over the last year or so, and looks ready to rock this drag race.

I realize it’s just for entertainment but Pro Stock cars do not belong on dusty airport strips. As impressive as the Hoonicorn is, it wouldn’t even be in the same zip code if this race were held on the strip.
But the Hoonicorn can do more than drive in a straight line. Drag racing is the low talent, boring outcast of real motorsport.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to take anything away from the Hoonicorn. I agree it’s a multitalented car and awesome build. I was just making an observation about straight line performance since that’s the focus of these videos.
What the…..
Drag racing is more talent than GT racing, or even the lemans…. but it’s not in the track. It’s much of the highest form of engineering possible. Getting 4000 HP out of a car under 3000 lbs is insane. All the talent is before pressing the go button. The go button is just the reward.
That young lady got a long career Racing in any sport
You suck your article leads you up to the actual happening but it’s not available to those people that won’t go on Twitter again you suck
Are you basically saying, “I don’t like how you deliver free, quality, entertainment.”? (The link is from YouTube.)
Both cars are not squat w/o the proper gear’s & tires: but if you don’t have a great hand-n-eye coordinated driver! The race is dead before it begins!
This comparison was really stupid if you want to compare, try having the hooligan race against a Baja truck in the Sahara desert see who wins. I know you probably doing this for haha but vehicles that are race intended for specific types of track is where they’re supposed to be, hooligan can go a lot of different tracks.
Why, Why, Why, do people almost always compare Corvettes with Mustangs whatever modifications they may have stock or otherwise? Stop it (LOL) Mustang vs Camaro—— Camaro vs Mustang. A Mustang should never be in the same sentence as a
Corvette. The same goes for the Camaro. Remember, the Camaro and Mustangs are 4 (four) seater’s kinda.
I rest my case.
