On October 21st, General Motors unveiled the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 showcasing the Sierra Denali Ultimate, the new top trim level above the now-“regular” GMC Sierra Denali. GM Authority recently obtained a real-world photo of GMC’s range-topping ultimate luxury pickup truck.
Below is the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate Crew Cab, Short Box model wearing White Frost Tricoat paint.
The biggest change to the exterior is the new front fascia, with reworked headlights as well as a grille that’s slightly larger than the one on pre-facelift models, along with a different slat design. With the grille growing in width, the headlights are now slightly narrower. They continue to wear GMC’s signature C-shaped design aesthetic, but with a different execution for the refresh, featuring a deeper-reaching bottom end of the “C.” The lower front fascia has also been revised to feature a new set of fog lights at the outer edges. There’s also a new front bumper garnish surrounding chrome tow hooks.
The 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate sets itself apart from the rest of the lineup thanks to unique exterior styling, including a unique grille treatment finished in exclusive Vader chrome. The new grille is complemented by further Vader chrome details, such as the GMC logo, as well as unique front fender trim featuring Mount Denali. The corners of the 2022 Sierra Denali are filled by exclusive 22-inch wheels, while the rear of the pickup features the six-way configurable GMC MultiPro tailgate. Power assist steps are equipped as standard.
It’s worth noting that the rims in our photo are the 22″ multi-dimensional polished aluminum wheels (RPO code SMF) that are optional on the pre-refresh 2022 Sierra Denali Limited, included and only available with (PEC) Denali Reserve Package or (RFP) Denali Premium Package. The standard wheels on the 2022 Sierra Denali Ultimate are 22-inch Low Gloss Black Aluminum Wheels with Machined Accents (RPO code Q7L).
The side profile of the refreshed 2022 Sierra Denali Ultimate remains the same as before. This truck also features power-retractable running boards. Carried over from the pre-refresh models, the units are officially known as the GMC MultiPro Power Steps.
Out back, the refreshed 2022 Sierra Denali remains largely the same as before, with the standard power rear window. We also note the C-shaped tail lights flanking the six-way configurable GMC MultiPro tailgate.
The dual exhaust setup remains as it was before, but the cutouts for the CornerStep rear bumper do appear to be slightly smaller on the range-topping Sierra Denali Ultimate compared to those on the pre-refreshed pickup.
The new Sierra Denali Ultimate comes equipped with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque and mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Precision Shift, as well as four-wheel drive and an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case, all as standard. Denali Premium Suspension with Adaptive Ride Control is also standard.
Pricing (including destination charge) for the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate 1500 starts at $80,395. Look for deliveries of the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra to begin in the first quarter of the 2022 calendar year. Reservations are now open at GMC.com.

Looks good in white, but I think needs colour match fenders
I agree that the black plastic wheel opening trim needs to be body color and included on the Ultimate package. The painted wheel opening pieces were available as an option on earlier Denali pickup trucks.
She’s a Beauty! …Let’s see FALL – APART Ford 🤡 or Deficiency Dodge 🥴 manufacture something that is HALF as good as GM/Chevrolet quality. I’ll wait…🤣
I would take a Ram Limited or an F-150 Platinum in a heartbeat over this overpriced Silverado from GMC. Putting the Ultimate badge on this truck is GM’s way of squeezing another $10k out of gullible customers thinking they are getting the best of the best.
So true!
Seriously! GMCs’ are the best looking pick-up trucks in America.
Not with those wheel wells
Dodge trucks are Junk! Always have been, and always will be.
I’m a GM owner former Ford and dodge owner, have had 2 Denali pickups and I’m getting my 3rd Denali, definitely better than the competition
Jess, just curious, would you purchase the Denali or the Denali Ultimate as your 3rd Denali and why?
BB
I am getting the Denali, the ultimate comes with those black 22” wheels, which you can replace with any of the optional wheels, and the super cruise is a subscription service, I hardly use the regular cruise, so Regular Denali it is,
At least when I order a Ram, I know I will get the options I ordered, not an empty promise to install them at the dealer “next year some time”.
What that translates to will likely be, “No, we can’t install the stuff you paid for after all. Here’s a coupon good for a free oil change, and $500 off on the purchase of your next GM vehicle.”
They already have. Your wait ended 2 years ago.
HUGE improvrment! way ahead of Ford Titanium/Platinum and almost up to RAM Ltd/Longhorn quality! (Not there yet; but much closer than last years Deficent Denali !)
The NEW American Dream. A new truck every two years.
True and that’s what burns me up about GMC. Ford has had the majority of this tech and luxury since the 2015 model. That is why my neighbor is still enjoying his 2016 F150. GMC seems to give us bit by bit every two or three years. I am still waiting for a panoramic roof. I guess we will get one in 2025. Even though the Ford boys have had one since 2015.
lol!
It needs a panoramic roof, every truck in this segment has on one except the GMC/Chevy.
Why exactly does any pickup “need” a panoramic roof? Why would anyone even want a pickup with a panoramic roof? What’s wrong with you people? Is it something in the water besides the fluoride and the lead?
Seriously man
It’s a Denali, that cost 80k. I could see that if we were talking about a base model but your comment doesn’t fly here. Again, the truck in the Picture is a Denali, not a base model.
The very fact that we now have $80K GMC pickups is proof enough society’s gone totally off the rails. Enjoy this nonsense while it lasts.
Agreed, and no I don’t enjoy it. Would rather get a SLT honestly.
You should consider that while $80k seems indispensable to you, for others, it is very much affordable. Live and let live.
Indefensible, yes. In an era of grotesquely escalating societally subverting wealth inequality, consider it a form of social responsibility. Humble thyself.
Humble thyself? Here’s a Bible verse for you…
“Jealously is a form of hatred built upon insecurity.”
Mind your own business. If you don’t want the truck or can’t afford it, then don’t buy it.
I’m not jealous, genius. You clearly miss the point.
If you want an $80K GMC pickup, go buy it if it makes you feel better about yourself. Knock yourself out.
“And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”
WOW! You really ARE an Idiot Boy! You must be a Liberal Biden supporter, wanting FREE stuff and Hating all those that succeed by hard work! You type people have no clue how good you have it already in the US. Go overseas and learn about life, and quit whining. And don’t throw GOD into this, it has no relevance here.
I won’t be rich! Will have spent all my money on trucks! Heaven, here I come!!
So that $80k looks like. Not impressed. Nor with Ford or Ram either. But them small S-10’s we’ll not be getting are interesting. In fact, a lot of product we’re not getting is more interesting than what we are getting. Why, Mary? Why?
I agree – Lots of carryover for a truck that starts at 80K. I would buy a Porsche before I would by this. Besides the interior and wheels, what is different from 2019??!
Important to keep in mind that this is a “refresh” of the 2019, not a new generation. Completely different design is coming in 2025 I believe, maybe that answers your question.
Lol if a Porsche is the alternative then a truck should’ve never been on your shopping list.
I have a Colorado diesel and a 911 turbo and love both. The 911 is an occasional drive in good weather and thoroughly exciting and exhausting to drive. The Colorado is far more comfortable over longer distances and of course I can get more done in it.
They still didn’t fix the design problems in my eye. The wheel wells are still a mess and the bumper cut outs look cheap. The worst part is the hood line being higher than the cab and bed line. It just doesn’t flow well at all.
It looks good, just wish you could get more than a 6.2 on the range topper.
amen to that! Nice truck but wont compete with ford at the stop light! Wake up GM!
It needs a 6.2 high output engine – the 6.2 in the Vette puts out almost 500hp, the Ultimate package engine should get a bump in hp for $80k.
$80K, and I’ll bet it still comes with GM’s famous garbage lifters. Best wishes to those who buy this pig!
I’d vote for a high output 6.6 or an s/c 6.2
you need a new color.special bleu wiil be real nice.on the new gmc our silverado.Donald
I’d really like to see an article comparing this and the Silverado high country, which starts at about $20k less. So far the only mechanical difference I’m aware of is that the Denali ultimate has massaging seats. The high country can probably be optioned into the $70k range, but I doubt it’ll get close to $80k.
for an apples to apples comparison, you need to compare the High Country to the Denali which is about $3,500 more than the High Country, not the Denali Ultimate
Fine, can you tell me what sets apart the High Country from the regular Denali other than “styling” for the $3500? Denali Ultimate is an optioned-out Denali with some slightly different styling, so I’d imagine it could be similarly compared to an optioned-out High Country, with the latter only lacking the massaging seats that I’m aware of, and of course “styling,” which is to say the same features just presented in a different way.
I don’t know, go check them out? At the end of the day you don’t have to buy a Denali if you don’t see the value. Lots of people do. I was just pointing out that you weren’t comparing equivalent trim levels. Lots of nice trims and options out there.
Does anyone know when the online configurator goes live? Or know when pricing for individual packages will be known? My dealer said they don’t have the pricing yet.
January 5th is what my dealer told me when I placed my order.
Awesome
Plastic fender flares just scream “luxury” to me. And isn’t this just the perfect vehicle for Mary and the zombies to be hawking to attain that impending 55mpg CAFE standard?
No, ma’am, nevermind that passe Impala! Forget all about that nonsense. No, no, no, step right over here… what you need is a 6.2l Denali Monstercab! And if you can wait a few months, the “Green Edition” is coming in April – featuring genuine simulated carbon fiber appliques made from recycled plastic soda bottles! Yessiree, we here at gm just loooooove the environment…
