Four months after the company announced the 2022 Corvette IMSA GTLM Championship Edition in Mexico, General Motors has just started marketing the limited-run variant of its iconic sports car in the Latin American country. The automaker announced that a small batch of units of Championship C8.R Edition of the 2022 Corvette Stingray is now available in the dealership network in the Mexican market.
The 2022 Corvette IMSA GTLM Championship Edition, designed as a street version of the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) Corvette C8.R No. 3 and No. 4 race cars, arrives in Mexico with only 12 units available – a reduction from the 20 that GM initially announced. This special edition is aimed at customers who follow Corvette Racing closely and introduces the vehicle’s 2022 model year to the country.
“This special edition supercar was designed to commemorate the mid-engined Chevrolet Corvette C8.R participation in the IMSA competition,” said Electric and Sports Vehicle Launch Manager at GM Mexico, Carlos de la Mora, in a statement. “Customers who purchase one of the 12 units available in Mexico will be able to experience all the DNA of the vehicle, along with different aesthetic attributes of great value,” he added.
Based on the 3LT trim level with the Z51 performance package, the 2022 Corvette IMSA GTLM Championship C8.R Edition is available in two distinctive variants, named Accelerate Yellow No. 3 and Hypersonic Gray No. 4 that emulate the styling of the respective race cars. As such, this edition of the Corvette is equipped with the 6.2L LT2 V8 engine that develops 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, mated to the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
In addition to its exclusive exterior design with aggressive elements such as the Carbon Flash High Wing Spoiler, the 2022 Corvette IMSA GTLM Championship Edition features an exclusive cockpit decorated in Strike Yellow and Sky Cool Gray that evokes the yellow and gray racing colors. The limited-edition trim also includes GT2 seats, yellow stitching and seat belts, and a numbered C8.R plate.
The small batch of 12 units of the 2022 Corvette IMSA GTLM Championship Edition, available only in Coupe configuration, is now available in the 10 Chevrolet Performance stores in Mexico located in Mexico City (3), Monterrey, Guadalajara, Querétaro, Cancun, San Luis Potosí, Puebla and Culiacan. The suggested price for both limited-edition versions of the Corvette in the Mexican market is 2,912,900 MXN, about $136,900 USD at the current exchange rate.
