2022 Chevy Traverse Among 10 Best SUVs You Can Buy, Says Consumer Reports

Nonprofit consumer organization Consumer Reports has identified the 2022 Chevy Traverse as one of the 10 best SUVs on sale today.

Note that GM Authority considers the 2022 Chevy Traverse to be a full-size crossover, rather than an SUV, as stated by Consumer Reports.

The Consumer Reports 10 Best SUVs list is based on vehicles’ top Overall Scores from the organization’s ratings, which are compiled from road test performance and evaluations, results from reliability and owner satisfaction surveys, the availability of certain safety tech features, and crash test results.

The 2022 Chevy Traverse secured an overall score of 83, with a Road Test score of 95 out of 100, Predicted Reliability of 3 out of 5, and Predicted Owner Satisfaction of 3 out of 5. Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking (City) are both standard, while Automatic Emergency Braking (Highway) is optional.

Consumer Reports lists several highlights for the 2022 Chevy Traverse, including a quiet interior and comfortable ride, as well as easy-to-use infotainment. The organization also liked the rear-seat reminder system, while saying that the Traverse is at the top of the three-row “SUV” segment, and could even serve as an alternative to the full-size Chevy Suburban. The power delivery is characterized as smooth, while delivering average fuel returns (20 mpg combined).

As for the criticisms, Consumer Reports called attention to the manual sunshade for the optional sunroof, while also saying that the driver seat had “only” two-way lumbar adjustment. Additionally, the organization said that advanced safety features were only available with higher trim levels.

As a reminder, the 2022 Chevy Traverse introduces a mid-cycle enhancement (otherwise known as a refresh) for the second-generation nameplate, which includes updates to the exterior and interior, as well as deletion of the base L equipment group. Motivation is derived from the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LFY gasoline engine, which is rated at 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, connecting to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Chevy Traverse rides on top of the long wheelbase-variant of the GM C1 platform, with production taking place at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan. The 2022 Chevy Traverse entered the market during the fall of the 2021 calendar year.

  2. My 2020 Traverse has proven unworthy. Thanks for sharing about the Automatic Emergency Braking (highway). It wasn’t available in the Premium 2020 tier of mine. Met an accident because of the clearly poor braking system of Chevy. Then my sunroof just spontaneously burst while I was driving. Thankfully the soft manual covering protected my kids from the rain of shattered glass. Then the Millennium Chevy in Nassau said they have nothing to do with it. Another ultra poor after sales service of Chevy! Very disappointed!!!

  3. Makes sense as this is the largest crossover next to VW Atlas but so much better. The Japanese cannot apply!

  4. WHAT? How’s that possible? A Chevrolet making any to 10 report from consumer reports. Must be the cash between Japan and CR’s office is stuck on a ship anchored off the San Diego coast…

  6. Well race 57, of course your traverse has no problems at 43 thousand. Wait until 80 to 110,00 miles, then get back to me. Had two travistys ( thats what I call them) Both died befor 100,000 miles Not going for 3rd strike, nope. Wait until your wife looses confidence in that car, thats when you will know.
