Other noteworthy 2022 Chevy Malibu changes and updates over the 2021 model include the deletion of the base L trim level / 1VL equipment group, deletion of the manual parking brake – meaning that the electronic parking brake is now standard on all models, and the deletion of several packages, including the Portable Media Connectivity Package, Weather Protection Package, Weather Protection Package 2, Winter/Summer Floor Mats Package, and the Appearance Package.

The 2022 Chevy Malibu models have only recently begun to reach dealer lots, as production of the midsize sedan restarted on November 1st at the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas City, after being down in the U.S. since February.

Looking ahead, production of the 2022 Chevy Malibu is expected to ramp up in December, with the 2022 Chevy Malibu online configurator being launched in September. Of course, availability will vary by dealer when models do begin to arrive, so check with yours for complete details.

  2. This design has aged very well. Too bad people don’t want cars anymore…

    1. Yes it has, and I still like the original front end pre-facelift too. I don’t really see what the fuss about that was all about.

      1. Maybe that it’s a cheap trashy vehicle

        1. I differed from you that it is a trashy vehicle. I happen to own a 2016 Premier Malibu with 115K miles on it. I have had problems with the shifter (warning message), but after replacing it with the extended warrant, no more problems so far. It is a great car and runs pretty good since I keep it up with proper maintenance. My wife’s 2020 E-Pace Jaguar (with only 30K miles on it) have been at the dealer more times in a whole year and don’t weven ask how much the charges ($$) have been.

          1. The E-pace comes with a 5yr/60K mile warranty as well as complimentary scheduled maintenance for the same period. Your 2-3 year old E-pace with only 30K miles on it should be fully covered under warranty. There should be no charges.

  3. Thanks for talking about the Malibu. It is amazing how many people think that GM stopped making cars.

  4. dark ash is a nice color. I had a 2016; if I were getting a 2022 I would definitely look at the dark ash. I would also look into the new mineral gray.

The Malibu doesn’t have some super nice interior or nothing a majority of it is plastic. You are acting like it’s all leather or something.

  7. Miss the Impala. It was a very nice design, great ride and good value. Sad to see the nameplate go away.

    1. I have been waiting for my ordered 2021, now 2022 Malibu since 1/23/21. GM still hasn’t accepted the dealer order. The feedback from GM and my dealership has been nil. I’m still hopeful they will take my cash and deliver a car soon.

      1. I’m looking to buy one. I see 2021’s are showing “in transit”. Not sure about ’22’s.

        1. Every time I see an “In Transit” 2021 Malibu on the web, I call the dealership and I’m told the same line of “it was recently sold”. Bait and switch BS.

  8. Looks like a great color, but I’d like to see it in person. As of now I’m leaning toward Northsky Blue.

  9. Nice color, now wish the RS or premier package was offered with a 2.0L and a manual transmission, (I know wishful thinking but one can dream). Since I will be in the market soon, I will add this to the list.

  10. I really want to go SUV for my next car but if these are cheap enough I might go Malibu. I do like the Dark Ash and in RS trim I bet it’s an attractive car.

  11. Gm must be trying to set a world record on the number of shades of black that a car can be painted.

  12. The Malibu is used mostly as a lease car by companies who supply them for their sales force. I have a2019 Malibu that is a lease car. I was very surprised by the ride quality and comfort of it . Now, as far as power it has a gutless 4 cylinder that couldn’t pull a Fart out of a wind storm. I wish Ford would not stopped making the Fusion and the Taurus . i would love to have one of them!
