2022 Cadillac XT5 Among Most Reliable Midsize SUVs, Says Consumer Reports

The 2022 Cadillac XT5 is one of the most reliable mid-size SUVs on sale today, according to data compiled by Consumer Reports.

CR recently published its rundown of the most reliable mid-size SUVs that will be available for the 2022 model year. This list was compiled using survey data from CR readers from previous vehicle model years, who provide the company with feedback regarding their vehicle’s overall reliability.

Based on these survey responses, the 2022 Cadillac XT5 is the second most reliable premium crossover available today, boasting an overall reliability score of 89/100. The XT5 was behind only the Buick Envision in this segment, which achieved a reliability score of 90/100. The Audi Q5 was a very distant third with a score of just 65/100 – suggesting these two General Motors products are outclassing the competition by a wide margin when it comes to dependability. The least reliable vehicles in the Cadillac XT5’s segment were the Tesla Model Y and Alfa Romeo Stelvio, which tied with a reliability score of just 18.

The 2022 Cadillac XT5 received a near-perfect reliability score across the majority of the sub-categories CR judges in. Moderate problem areas identified by CR include the brakes and body integrity, with in-car electronics identified as the only major problem area. This can be somewhat misleading, though, as CR counts even minor problems with vehicle electronics as reliability issues, including freezing display screens and infotainment bugs.

These findings were based on CR reliability data for the 2020 model year Cadillac XT5. The XT5’s reliability has improved year after year in this study, with the model’s reliability ranked as very poor for the 2017 model year before improving slightly in 2018 and making a major leap in 2019 and 2020.

CR also ranked the 2022 Cadillac XT5 as one of the most reliable vehicles in any segment in a previous study.

  1. As has been sort of stated in the other articles similar to this: CR is now “predicting” reliability? So we are no longer waiting to see if a vehicle is actually reliable, but just looking into that crystal ball and saying it will be. Ok. Although this is good news unlike the 2022 Buick Enclave being listed by CR as not being reliable, it’s still stupid.

    1. Xt5 came out in 2016 it’s still the best looking sport utility in its segment. So if I bought a used low mileage 2018 to 2020 the reliability rating for 2022 is surly based on the last 5 years Survice Records. Beautiful Vehicle 😍

  2. Is this article a joke? How on earth can a 2022 model year vehicle be deemed reliable? It’s barely been on the road. I would love to know what the average mileage was of people doing the surveys…
Being that they’ve literally barely been on the road, I would imagine less than 15k miles for virtually all them…what a complete farce to attempt to call these pieces of GM junk reliable.

This article should be for older model Cadillac’s with enough mileage to truly discern what is reliable and not…lets see GM send out surveys to owners of vehicles with 5,6,7 years old and 100,000 miles and lets see how they score….they would be at the absolute bottom!
This is the single worst article related to vehicles I’ve read in my life.
Attempting to actually call a car that’s been on the roads less than a year “MOST RELIABLE” when the average owner of a 2022 Cadillac based on national averages would only have about 10-15k miles on them is literally comical.
GM builds absolute garbage cars, go look at the resale sale of a 5,6,7 year old GM product…lowest resale value in entire automotive world….why? Because they are factually unreliable junk!

Numbers don’t lie. GM cars are the most rapidly depreciating, unreliable cars in existence.

    1. well my old 2014 Chevrolet Malibu going on 8 years old has 167K miles, gets 36 mpg, the only problem is I have to replace the tires every 80,000 miles, so almost do for a new set ….dammit

  4. GM has a history of making vehicles that can be unreliable for the first year or two and then make them top notch after that. They seem to make more effort that way than any other brand. I’ve driven an XT5 and it was amazing. I might buy one.

  5. I own all GM vehicles and never had any issues. Stop being a hater and just buy what you like. All car companies put out lemons from time to time.
