2022 Cadillac CT5 Unavailable To Order With Super Cruise

The 2022 Cadillac CT5 is currently unavailable to order with the automaker’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system.

General Motors has confirmed to GM Authority that Super Cruise is currently not available in the 2022 Cadillac CT5 due to the semiconductor chip shortage. The automaker says the technology will not be re-added to the 2022 Cadillac CT5 order books until early next year.

Super Cruise is offered on the 2022 Cadillac CT5 in the Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels through the Super Cruise 1 or Super Cruise 2 packages. The technology is not offered on entry-level Luxury trim.

GM has been intermittently removing certain electronic features from its various models in order to cut back on the number of semiconductor chips it uses per-unit. This strategy has allowed the automaker to keep certain vehicles in production amid the chip shortage and mitigate the economic impact of the supply crunch. By removing Super Cruise from the options list, GM will be able to keep building the CT5, which has been produced in very small numbers this year due to the chip shortage.

GM applied minor updates and changes to the Cadillac CT5 for the 2022 model year. This included the deletion of three exterior paint colors, Velocity Red, Evergreen and Dark Blue Moon Metallic. These colors will be replaced by three new hues in the way of Blaze Orange Metallic Electric Blue, and Dark Emerald Frost. The sedan now also comes standard with wireless phone charging, more standard active safety features and has introduced new cosmetic packages through the dark-themed Onyx Package and chrome-adorned Radiant Package.

Powertrain options remain the same in the standard 2022 Cadillac CT5, consisting of the turbocharged 2.0L LSY I4 gasoline engine and the twin-turbocharged 3.0L LGY V6 gasoline engine. Meanwhile, the new CT5-V Blackwing ultra-performance variant introduces the supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8 engine to the lineup. Regular versions of the CT5 are only available with the GM 10-speed automatic transmission, although the CT5-V Blackwing comes standard with a six-speed manual, while the automatic gearbox is optional.

Production of the Cadillac CT5 sedan takes place at the GM Lansing Grand River plant, where it’s built alongside the Cadillac CT4 sedan and Chevy Camaro sports coupe.

  1. How much longer could the CT5 possibly have? I expect it’ll be canceled soon as the bean counters are surely looking at its back-of-the-pack sales figures. In light of that, SuperCruise probably will never be added back.

    1. Its only back of the pack because they have not built many for 2021. They were selling well when they had stock before covid and computer chip issues. With them back online, sales numbers will improve. They maybe also higher seeing how GM seems to have most if not all factories up and running.

  2. I would like to order CT5, but don’t want super cruise. Could I still get Premium level without super cruise?

    1. You can get any level you desire without the Super Cruise. But why? After all, you can turn off Super Cruise at any time, just with the push of a button. The Super Cruise is extremely useful on long highway trips. If it is not available, I think I get Blue Cruise.

  3. Super cruise requires practically adding every option before making it available. I hate GM for doing this, just make it a stand alone option or make a trim that has it included and not every other option on earth. Just adding it makes you shell out an extra $20k, while the super cruise option is maybe $5k itself. Stop doing this GM, Tesla doesn’t make you add everything just to get its autopilot feature….
