The last time we shared a video from the muscle car-obsessed YouTube channel Cars and Zebras, the stars of the show were two of the most tepid muscle cars to ever come out of Detroit: a base model Buick GSx and an oil crisis-era 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am. Today we’re flipping the script, with Cars and Zebras now turning their camera lens toward two of Detroit’s heaviest hitters, a 1969 Yenko Camaro and a 1970 Ford Torino Super Cobra Jet.
These two highly sought after and valuable muscle cars were present at Mid-Michigan Motorplex for the ‘Factory Appearing Stock Tire’ amateur racing series, otherwise known as F.A.ST., which is for pure stock muscle cars on factory tire sizes that were built between the 1955 and 1979 model years. On paper, the 1969 Yenko Camaro has the advantage here, with its 427 cubic inch L72 V8 producing roughly 450 horsepower. The legendary 427 V8 sends power to the rear wheels through a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission, with this particular car featuring different 4.33 rear gears. It tips the scales at a surprisingly high 3,696 pounds driver included.
The Ford Torino Super Cobra Jet, by comparison, produces just 375 horsepower from its 429 cubic inch V8. This car features a four-speed manual transmission and 4.57 rear gears and tips the scales at a significant 4,108 pounds with the driver included.
Both of these vehicles are exceedingly rare. There were only 129 examples of the Ford Torino Super Cobra Jet equipped with a four-speed manual transmission for the 1969 model year. The Yenko Camaro is even less common, with just 30 examples leaving the dealership equipped with the TH400 three-speed automatic in 1969. No matter who wins this heads-up drag race, then, the owners of these vehicles remain undisputed winners for enjoying their cars exactly how they were meant to be enjoyed: with the throttle pedal matted.

Ford got a big jump and still LOST
Shocking, who would have guessed a car giving up 500lbs and 75hp wouldn’t win…. Lol.
Yenko’s (Camaro’s, Nova’s & Chevelle’s) were built for drag racing, not as future collectibles worth 6 (or 7) figures plain and simple.
But given their worth, I find it hard to believe that anyone, nowadays, would risk a REAL Yenko for a grudge match.
Must be nice to have THAT kind of money…
Weight is a killer on the back half.
This intellectualizing post of 1969 Yenko Camaro Races A 1970 Ford Torino for super jets is so precious and realistic but as you all know that instead of this Proton Pakistan has also launched their best Cars for sale in all over Pakistan for the speedy and high mileage differences between them.
