1966 Chevy Impala Featured In Holiday Ride Advert: Video

The holidays are here, and it’s a great time to sit back and reflect on the past. Now, Chevrolet is bringing the heavy feels with the following video advertisement, featuring a 1966 Chevy Impala.

The video ad is titled “Holiday Ride,” and opens with a rural scene and a little acoustic guitar for the soundtrack. We see a man walking out to place a wreath on the doors of a barn, a Chevy Silverado 2500HD in the background. When the man opens the bar doors, we see a 1966 Chevy Impala parked.

The droptop Chevy looks like its seen better days, with flat tires, cobwebs, and a thick layer of dust covering the panels. As the man sits in the Chevy Impala, we see him lift up a photo of a young woman, presumably his wife. The man holds back his tears, overcome with emotion.

We later see the man’s daughter arrive in her Chevy Blazer crossover, watching her dad as he closes the barn doors. It looks like she gets an idea, and later heads into town to recruit some of the local mechanics for a little “night work” restoring the old Chevy Impala.

After grabbing the Chevy Impala out of the barn, we see the restoration process in action, sanding down the body and applying new paint, swapping out the wheels, and overhauling the engine.

The video ends with a reveal for the dad as he sees the classic Chevy Impala again in the barn, polished and once again like new. It’s a pretty emotional ad, and for those readers that need an uplifting holiday message, this ad could be the perfect thing.

  1. THIS old chevy brings back the fun days of ditching study hall as one of the guys drove pasted and we’d all jump in when the top was down to go hit Dog and Suds. Then be back before the end of the period to make our next class. Yes, we did have study hall outside in the spring.

  7. Bought a new 72 camaro as a senior in high school. Still own the car in original condition. The memories I have with it all come back to me every time I enter my garage or take it out for a ride. Kudos to Chevrolet for keeping dreams alive. My daughter will eventually get the car to carry on the dream.

  8. WOW!!! You nailed it GM, reliving all all the great memories while watching this. Growing up I had friends and family that had this same car. Most of all I had a red head girl friend that had this car, her car was red.

    Thank you

  10. Saw the adv. a couple nights ago, I thought it was well done and moving But it prompted me to think, what car will GM feature in this adv. in say, 2065? Outside of a C8 Corvette, I can’t think of one GM product that could stir emotions like that Impala did. And it could have been a variety of ’66 GM products. How about opening that barn door to a ’66 Riviera? Or a Grand Prix? A DeVille convertible? Even a Corvair Monza. Today’s GM (and Ford, and FCA/Stellantis and most of the mainstream brands now make very good, functional and utilitarian cars and trucks but only the Vette, perhaps the Mustang and Ford GT are really inspiring. I’m afraid when that barn door opens in 2060 and the daughter finds a dusty and tired Malibu, Suburban or Enclave, she’ll just have it hauled to the crusher.

    1. I ordered my 1972 Corvette this week in 1971
Took delivery in April 1972. I still own this Corvette. It has served me well. Has over 250,000 miles on it. Major components have been restored to keep this Corvette running.
Never painted the exterior or changed the interior. This Corvette is still a matching numbers car. This 1966 Chevy commercial reminds me of the Chevy my dad had that I learned to drive in, it was the Caprice model.

  15. Can’t stand to watch it. It makes me cry! Too many memories. The loss of love for a company that’s killing itself to please a few that want what the market is not demanding. We are at least ten years or more away from adequately transitioning to all electric. If GM had a good hybrid system like Toyota, I would consider purchasing a truck and other vehicles that can go the distance. Houston to Atlanta in one 16 hr. day and over 800 miles. All electric wont cut it.

  16. I’m not crying…you’re crying!! Geez….what a cool commercial. My Mom drove a 66 Impala SS in aztec bronze.

    1. THAT was a beautiful and unique color back then. They had it in ’57 too.. think called Sierra Gold. I had a 67 Grand Prix hardtop in that color… plate only had code for “special paint”.

  17. GM must have changed ad agencies, this one is really good. With teenage drivers in the family Dad always had Chevy’s with a straight 6 and 3 on the column. Then he came home with the ’66 Impala hardtop. 283 and Power Glide. Same color beautiful blue(gm used to have nice colors) with black interior. I loved that car and was so disappointed when he wouldn’t sell it to me because he was afraid I’d kill myself with that V8, LOL. It had a “rear seat speaker ” in the middle of the back seat! We thought that was so cool! He followed that with a beautiful green ’70 Impala hardtop with a high speed rear that would spin it’s wheels if you spit on the pavement. Not a good set up for Michigan winters!

    1. Bob, I believe this great auto ad will spur GM’s management finally understand the failed policies that they have taken over the past couple of years … nameplates like Lumina, Impala, Astro, Venture, even the Cruze. Those name plates have brand equity that is costing GM Billions, trouble is there’s no one in management that understands that, I owned 3 Luminas, 4 Astros, and the Venture’s sister the Silhouette. I switched over to another brand (Ford) because of this. GM stopped building what we wanted. GM … take the hint, the world doesn’t need another SUV (stupid useless vehicle) it needs vehicles with names like Impala, Astro, Venture to come back. You made the great decision to offer in ’22 the reg cab, short box pickup in the WT trim, it will be a hit. Now bring back what the public wants an needs.

  33. My mother (RIP) had a ’66 Impala 396. Nick-named the “Silver Streak” as she was a lead foot. She worked on an air base and all the young airmen would stop and look at that car. I was 16 and we drove to California from Illinois. Getting to open it up through Nevada was a blast. I chucked the rear end out of it at the drag strip and was she mad?! Nope, laughed and we got it fixed.

She later traded it for a Pontiac Bonneville and it was bought by an airman. A week or so after that he totaled it and unfortunately died in the car.

  34. What a great holiday greeting by GM. It was emotional for me as I ordered a new 66 Impala 427 4-speed convertible, madeira maroon with fawn interior, as my first new car once working as a young graduate engineer. Dated, married, and had a newborn with that as the family car. Only had it for 4 years and traded it for a 70 Monte Carlo, but what a great 4 years. Drag strip, honeymoon, and hot summer night top down memories all come to mind. It was a wonderful time! Thanks, GM.

  36. I just love this commercial, it makes me teary eyed, but in the best way. My mom had a 1968 Impala convertible, that she just loved. My brother restored it for her and our mom drove it with such joy, it was her baby. Sadly our mom passed away in 2011,but she graciously left her beloved Impala to me. I now understand her love for this car and why it bought her so much joy.

    1. There are many companies who specialize in “restoration” of most all types of 30+ year old vehicles, one in Fatetteville NC (i-95muscle.com) has several ready to sell. I’m making contact with them after Christmas to see if they can locate a candidate (’89 to ’91) Impala or Caprice Wagon for restoration. It’s bad when in this age of so many choices of vehicles you really can’t find one that you really want anymore. If you’re going to spend from $25K to $30K for a new vehicle … spend the same for a fully restored vehicle which usually has a new engine an power train … and get what you really wanted.

    1. Let’s be grateful for what we got. This ad was a literal dog whistle to Traditional Americans. A beacon of hope from Commonwealth//McCann and Chevrolet for the downtrodden “silent majority” currently being trampled to death by woke. A warm embrace and a message of strength for those of us who just want our country back.

They haven’t forgotten us. They’ve got our back. WE ARE the Heartbeat.

A reminder that America, too can rise again and our revered past shall not be forgotten nor forsaken. What greater gift could Chevrolet possibly have given us right about now?

      Merry Christmas

For me, this has the same emotional intensity as the Clydesdale commercial where the team rides across country and bows before New York City after 9/11… except with old Chevys (with some new ones making cameos). Budweiser updated it a bit and brought it back this year for the 20 year mark… only aired once or twice.
