With a long-roof wagon body style, a twin-turbo Small Block Chevy under the hood, and the traction and power needed to rip some very satisfying wheelies, this 1965 Chevelle Malibu is definitely a crowd favorite. Now, we’re checking out this seven-second dragster in-depth thanks to the following feature video.
Coming to us from the folks at 1320 Video, this feature was captured at The Strip at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where some very fast cars were in attendance to lay it all down. As for this particular purple dragster, this is a 1965 Chevelle Malibu 300 wagon, a factory two-door model that originally was equipped with a 327. That means this thing is one of 638 units produced in this specific configuration for the U.S. The current owner purchased it in 2014, then shipped it to Alaska and started cutting.
The Chevelle was the recipient of a full ground-up chassis rebuild, with the owner pouring six years of his life into making it what it is today. Now, the Chevelle is ready to debut, pulling wheelies in just its third run in full race spec.
Speaking of the spec, this Chevelle is now running a 378 cubic-inch Small Block Chevy V8, with the powertrain pieced together by Horsepower Solutions in Alberta, Canada. The V8 is stuffed with boost thanks to a pair of 76 mm Precision turbochargers, while FuelTech handles the engine management. Per the owner, output was measured on a dyno at 1,200 horsepower at 6,500 rpm.
The wagon thing still has a lot of steel on it, but even so, this Chevelle weighs just 2,850 pounds. Part of the weight savings comes down to the double frame rail ProMod chassis under the skin.
Seeing this big purple slab of Chevy speed fly down the track is a delightful thing to witness, especially when the driver gets the front end off the ground. Check it out for yourself right here:

As a kid I saw a white 2-door ’65 Chevelle wagon in the junkyard. Wouldn’t have been to old back then. Shoulda had Dad buy it.
A lot of money was spent, it’s a cool wagon
There was a nice 2 dr. wagon running around Gilbert Az. for years with a 6 cyl. stick the owner kept saying No to all offers. I guess it’s time to head out there for a winter vacation again.
