Refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado Gets Standard Push Button Start On All Trim Levels

The refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 features a long list of updates and changes, headlined by an all-new cabin and interior layout. One of the new features of the overhauled 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 interior is a push button start that is included as standard across the lineup.

Prior to the introduction of the fully refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500, a push button start (also known as keyless ignition) was either standard or optional on all trim levels except for WT, Custom, and Custom Trail Boss. This is the case for Light Duty pickup trucks introduced for the fourth-generation with the 2019 model year, up to the 2021 model year and pre-refresh 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited.

Now, however, the fully refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado includes Push Button Start as standard across the lineup.

Rather than requiring a physical key like a traditional ignition starter, Push Button Start works wirelessly via the key fob, which can be located in your pocket or a bag. The fob will transmit a signal to the onboard computer system and enable the user to start the engine without removing the key fob, making it easier to start and stop the vehicle.

Standard Push Button Start is one just one aspect of the fully refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 interior. Check out GM Authority’s video tour of the interior for a more complete picture of the upgrades, updates, and changes.

As a reminder, the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is available with four powertrain options, including the turbocharged 2.7 I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque (a 20-percent torque increase), the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Under the skin, the 2022 Chevy Silverado rides on the GM T1 platform, while production will take place at the GM Silao plant in Mexico and the GM Fort Wayne factory in Indiana.

  1. Wait, you can buy a 2021 that doesn’t have this standard? #sigh

    1. It’s a matter of personal preference of course, but having owned trucks with both I find that I’m happier (in a truck) with the physical key.

Going hunting/fishing/camping? Just hide the key under the truck or in the bed. Proximity keys still are active if not hidden correctly.

At home? Keys can’t be left inside cars anymore even in the garage, because of the “keep alive” and will drain the battery after a couple days. This cost me a new battery.

      1. I’ve never once wanted to leave my keys in my car when it wasn’t actually running. I suppose you could have some weird use case, but for almost everyone else, it’s a huge improvement over sticking the key in the ignition switch.

  2. I’d there a button you can press to make the front of the work truck look better than?

  3. But will it have keyless entry as well? With RAM, all trucks have keyless start but you have to option keyless entry. Was always annoying to have to use the FOB to get in the truck but then just push a button knowing the tech was there, but only having half of it.

  5. Does anyone know if memory seats will be offered on the 2022 ZR-2?

    1. Memory seats are standard in the ZR2 and up trims

  6. I’m not being argumentative but gm finally figured out how to avoid a recall issue by eliminating the infamous dangling keys. No one brought up the 2014 recall of 2.6 million vehicles that contributed to 97 deaths. If you remember The dangling keys shut off the motor and airbags while the vehicle was in motion. Never a good thing.

    1. You still need the key to start the car.

  8. These stupid electric keys are crap.

  9. I custom ordered a Colorado in July and push button was no where online as an option nor not phone charging in an LT. I was shocked & annoyed they act like remote start & keyless entry are some novel new thing they haven’t been doing for years and should be standard. They didn’t have my black wheels or a decent looking black factory steps either. No locking glove box or oh crap drivers side handle either. It smells like it doesnt have a cabin filter, I can even smell the wiper fluid and car wash soap inside. Cup holders and front storage isn’t any better than my q5, same width without the mirrors too. Specifically ordered an LT 22 and not any in 23 because of the ugly gray bumper and ugly grills on the fancier ones. Thanks for nothing
