Here’s The 2023 Chevy Camaro Production Start Date: Exclusive

The 2023 Chevy Camaro is slated to become the eighth model year of the latest sixth-generation nameplate, and now, GM Authority has uncovered the 2023 Chevy Camaro’s production start date.

According to GM Authority sources, the 2023 Chevy Camaro is scheduled to roll off the line starting June 6th, 2022. Production will once again take place at the GM Lansing Grand River Plant in Michigan, which also produces the Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT5 luxury sedans.

For now, it looks like the Chevy Camaro nameplate is starting to wind down, with development of the seventh-generation model terminated, making the current sixth generation the “final” generation. As GM Authority exclusively covered previously, the discontinuation timeframe for the sixth-generation Chevy Camaro is a moving target and has yet to be determined.

Rumor has it the 2023 Chevy Camaro may offer the same naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 gasoline engine as the C8 Chevy Corvette Stingray, with the LT2 replacing the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT1 gasoline engine for the 2023 Chevy Camaro engine lineup. While there are several reasons why this may be a possibility, including lower emissions, renewed interest in the nameplate, and higher sales, there’s also several reasons why the rumor is likely untrue, including certification costs, engineering, testing, and validation costs, and high demand for the C8 Corvette Stingray, currently the only production model to offer the LT2 engine.

Although the production start date for the 2023 Chevy Camaro is now locked in, the longterm plans for the Chevy Camaro remain somewhat murky. It’s possible that General Motors will extend the lifecycle of the current sixth-generation model to the 2026 model year. As a reminder, the sixth-generation vehicle was introduced for the 2016 model year.

Another possibility is that the Chevy Camaro nameplate will be applied to a completely different vehicle, namely an all-electric performance sedan that follows GM’s pivot towards zero-emissions vehicles.

    1. George; Have you driven the 10 speed automatic? Very impressive transmission. It’s tough to drink coffee with a standard.

  3. Your next Camaro will be electric. Two door and four door versions. You can take that to the bank.

    1. Very possible with Oppenheiser coming off the Hummer EV. If he can make that pig look good with batteries, he can design an appealing CamaroEV. Here’s something else you can take to the bank….Big Al doesn’t want Camaro to die.

      1. There will emerge such pressure to eliminate ice engines in response to
global warming, you can count on the Feds putting gas prices out of reach
for us suckers who romanticize the gas cars. California gas is currently
$5/gallon. Think where that will be when the last ice car of your choice
rolls out. The Feds will be squeezing the auto industry, domestic & import,
        like you’ve never imagined.

        1. Tom; you’re probably right and one day ICE passenger cars and light trucks will be long gone. Pressure to change isn’t all that hard for the manufacturers since they are investing billions of dollars and they’ll want a return on the investments.
The real challenge for governments at all levels will be revenue. Taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel is a huge source on revenue that helps support our road system at all levels. As gasoline consumption drops the tax revenue will need to be replaced. At charging stations it’s easy to add taxes to the charge but if millions of chargers are at homes, it can only means taxes on the electric bill will increase. With electric smart meters and everything wireless, it might just be possible the utility companies can detect when an EV is charging. It’s going to be a huge undertaking for today’s young people. Manufactures are talking 100% EV production by 2030-35 time frame. By then I may just be to old to drive.

  4. If the 2023 Camaro gets the LT 2 engine, will they all be equipped with an automatic transmission, like the new Corvettes?

    1. The C8 is a manual transmission but with dual auto clutches. It has a Z button that give you more control like a standard. Pull on both paddle shifters and your in neutral, same as pushing a pedal. It’s not totally standard but quite good. You must drive one to appreciate it. A ten speed instead of eight would be better but I think space constrains limited it to eight speed.

  5. Could they have made it just a little bit uglier? *Looks at pictures again.* Nope, nope, I don’t think they could.

    1. The SS front end is much better looking than the LS or LT (4 cyl & 6 cyl) models. The 4th picture looking down on the hood is of the SS.

But you’re right about the appearance of the LS and LT. If Chevy had improved these then the sales of 6th gen Camaros would have been much higher overall. Too bad that a relatively minor issue of front end design for the 2 lower models may have caused such lower sales overall that the entire Camaro line is near the end.

      1. The new ZL1 front looks mean plus the lower front pulls air up into the motor and out thru a better design hood scoop not to mention better airflow through the grill work. That should be available on the SS or at least the 2SS V8. As stated I added air intake system in my previous post.

    1. Your car would have come with the 8-speed auto…..the 10 speed didn’t arrive in the SS until MY 2019. The ZL1 had a 10-speed upon its arrival in MY 2017.

  10. Owning 5 Camaro in my time, presently a 2016 2 SS 6.2 455 hp Convertible, white w/ Adrenaline red leather interior. I have added air intake system and throttle booster etc. She runs great and has been my best by far. Rather than trade her I might just supercharge her.
Sales declined but parts supply had alot to do with that. Parts were diverted to the truck line where there is a bigger profit margin. GmM is a fool to give up on Camaro and there was talk of putting the LT4 engine in one but just talk.
As a camaro lover sad to see it go and have told GM this like many others.

  14. I own a 2017 2SS, best looking front end with the 2 hood vents and the rear looks good, not the spam can lights currently used. This is my fifth Camaro, the first being a 1968 SS. I hope GM keeps this car alive and keeps me in the show room. SUVs are boring boxes for boring people,

  15. Great question Farm Boy. I have been asking the same question.
I ordered a 2022 2SS convertible on June 6th 2021. Starting my eighth month and
don’t even have a allocation number. GM has only accepted the order.
Now I am thinking about canceling the order and order a 2023. But GM is keeping
a lid on what they are going to do. Are they going to a mid engine? Are they going to take Corvette’s C-8 engine and put it in the Camaro? Lots of questions and no answers.
At the rate pre owned cars are selling, I might buy the ’22 and turn around and sell it and make a couple of dollars.
Just not sure what to do?

  17. GM will not spend even $200 to upgrade the 8-speed automatic transmission in the Camaro 2.0 four cylinder turbo, to the 10 speed automatic found on the V6 and V8 Camaro’s. What makes you think they are going to spend about $2000 to upgrade to the LT2 engine for the 2023 LT1 Camaro and 2023 SS Camaro’s?

    1. Why the hell would you need 10 speeds for a four cylinder?
