The GM Design team has shared a conceptual sketch that was completed during the development of the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500.
This sketch, which was done by GM senior exterior designer Vicente Muhlethaler, may have been completed later in the design process for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, as it appears very similar to the production truck that will reach customer hands next year. It features a similarly-shaped grille opening, GMC’s signature C-shaped LED headlamps and the same faux front skid plate with integrated tow hooks. The horizontal slats in the grille are quite a bit different than the production truck, however, and the side mirrors are also of a different shape.

In addition to revised exterior styling, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra introduces a restyled cabin to the premium pickup with an all-new 13.4-inch infotainment screen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as (standard on SLE trim levels and above), a redesigned center console with available Electronic Precision Shift, more soft touch points and additional premium materials. All models in the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 lineup are equipped with this new interior design, with the exception of the base GMC Sierra Pro, which is marketed as a fleet/work truck.
The powertrain lineup in the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 includes the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine and naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, as well as the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax.
The fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is slated to hit dealers in Q1 of the 2022 calendar year. This model is not to be confused with the 2022 GMC Sierra Limited, which is a carryover model from 2021 that will bridge the gap to the refreshed truck. GM implemented this strategy due to delays in bringing the new Sierra 1500 to market due to various pandemic and supply chain related setbacks.

I hate it, too futuristic, too I don’t know. The wheels are too big. 💩
It’s just a design sketch, the production model won’t come with the oversized tires, but the overall look of this one does look like the Next Gen AT4.
To me, the sketch is 1000% better. Yea, the wheels aren’t practical or legal in many states, but I LOVE the aggressive look of the signature lighting and the grill. It looks like a lot got lost by the production crew who came up with something that was probably easier to produce, with more jagged, disconnected lines and small features that just don’t fit in.
Off subject – I read a ton of auto news articles, yet to find one that mentions the significance of Chev & GMC having very unique dash designs, first time ever!
I like it. The look is unique in these daze of bigger and bolder is better.
Same old played out idea
That is almost as bad as the new Silverados. They are the UGLIEST trucks I have EVER SEEN! I would never spend the amount of $ they want for a junky looking truck w no sex appeal at all. And not to mention, has GM not learned from the last 30 years that you want to see the ROAD, not the HOOD?? 🙄
New Sierra is referring to the 2019 truck. This is not the 2022 refresh design.
I’m all for it as long as they put the mirrors back where they belong.
What do you mean about the mirrors? You mean how they’re longer horizontally?
When are these actually coming out? I’m reading conflicting/outdated information online. Best I can tell is they go into production late February, early March, but this article says they’ll be out Q1. Would they really be out for sale that quickly after starting production? When will they actually be released and on the lot to test drive & buy? Appreciate any solid info. Trying to decide whether to buy a new one now or wait.
Same old boring style boxy looking vehicles all look the same no class no style interior the same the older cars an trucks look better oh an last longer don’t break down on ya all the time . all ran by a computer an can’t work on them cause that way you have to take it to the shop. What happened to the old way.
It appears to me that the designers do not even own or work in these trucks. There needs to be upgrades with regards to how we use these trucks. Storage, backup lighting and when are you ever going to make the front lower spoiler the first thing I have to cut up just to put new plow on new truck. Also don’t forget the price
