During the recent GM Future Growth press conference in the city of Bupyeong, where the company announced its future growth strategy in South Korea, General Motors revealed important product news for the Asian country. In addition to introducing 10 new electric vehicles by 2025 and the launch of the GMC brand for the first time in the South Korean market, GM Korea reported that it will also import the Chevy Tahoe early next year.
The automaker confirmed that it will launch the Tahoe in the first quarter of 2022 in South Korea, as part of the planned expansion of the imported vehicle portfolio that seeks to provide more options to local customers and highlight the company’s competitive advantages in emerging vehicle segments. As such, the Tahoe will become Chevrolet‘s new flagship vehicle in the South Korean market.
Notably, this will be the first time the Chevy Tahoe is officially introduced and marketed in South Korea, where American culture is held in high esteem and demand for large utility vehicles is steadily increasing. In fact, the Tahoe will become the fourth full-size SUV to be offered in the country after the Cadillac Escalade, Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator.
GM had presented the Chevy Tahoe for the first time in Korea a couple of years ago by exhibiting a unit of the fourth-generation model at the 2019 Seoul International Motor Show, when it officially introduced the Chevy Colorado and Traverse that have established new paradigms in the Asian country. On that occasion, the company began to explore the response of consumers to make the final decision to introduce the Tahoe in the domestic market.
“Many of our customers have been waiting for this giant since we introduced it first at the Seoul Motor Show in 2019,” said GM Korea President and CEO, Kaher Kazem, in an official press release. “The Tahoe has been tailored to meet the needs of customers with a sense of style and adventure, with a splash of boldness,” he added.
The 2022 Chevy Tahoe will be officially launched and available for sale in South Korea during the first quarter of next year, when the company’s local affiliate will announce final details on configuration, trim levels and pricing. With the introduction of the iconic full-size SUV, GM Korea intends to continue raising Chevrolet’s brand image while fueling demand for the new domestically-made utility vehicles.
