The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited will be discontinued once GM starts producing the refreshed 2022 model, GM Authority has confirmed.
Director of Chevrolet Truck Marketing Kelly MacDonald validated what we expected all along, in an interview with GM Authority executive editor Alex Luft.
For the 2022 Chevy Silverado, GM won’t follow Ram’s strategy of building two generations of Ram 1500 pickups at the same time, wherein the Ram 1500 is the new model and the Ram 1500 Classic is the previous generation truck that is still on sale as a lower-budget choice.
As a reminder, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited model bridges the gap between the pre-refresh 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 and refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500, GM Authority first reported on in July. The reason for the existence of the Limited model is that the refreshed Chevy Silverado 1500 was originally slated to arrive early in the 2022 model year. It was then delayed due to a variety of complications and delays stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Production of the “stop-gap” 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited began on October 4th at the GM Silao plant in Mexico and on October 11th at the GM Fort Wayne factory in Indiana. The online configurator tool for the Limited model is now live on the automaker’s website.
Between the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited and pre-refresh 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500, there are a few changes as well as slightly different pricing and reduced fuel economy ratings.
For those wanting to wait for the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500, the order books will open in December, with production scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2022. We expect more details about ordering and pricing to become available any day now.
As a recap, the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup debuted on September 9th, introducing a long list of changes and updates over the preceding 2019, 2020 and 2021 model years, including an overhauled interior. This was perhaps the most anticipated update to the fourth-generation Chevy Silverado 1500 which was introduced for the 2019 model year. The new cabin can be found on LT trims and higher.
The cabin now includes a 13.4-inch color touchscreen as standard on LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country and the all-new 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is standard on all models equipped with the updated interior, as is a range of Google-powered infotainment features such as Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also included.
Making the list of tech options is the GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver-assist system. It will be optional on the range-topping Silverado High Country model. Notably, the 2022 Chevy Silverado will also offer trailering capabilities in conjunction with Super Cruise. Additionally, Chevy Safety Assist will be standard on all enhanced trim levels.
On the outside, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 refresh features a revamped front fascia, including new headlights with animated walk-up and walk-away features along with swiping turn signals on certain trims. Three new exterior colors join the lineup, namely Dark Ash, Sand Dune, and Glacier Blue Metallic.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 refresh also introduces an updated engine, with enhancements to the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. The boosted four-cylinder, which becomes the standard engine on the Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, 2FL, and RST now features 20 percent more torque for a total of 420 pound-feet. Additionally, models equipped with the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine get an increase in towing capacity of up to 13,300 pounds.
The atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 and 6.2L V8 L87 remain unchanged, with the 5.3L delivering 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, while the 6.2L puts out 420 horses and 460 pound-feet.
More big news for the refreshed 2022 Silverado reveal is the introduction of the first-ever 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 as Chevy’s new flagship off-road offering to accompany the popular Silverado Trail Boss.
The new Silverado ZR2 features a high-approach steel front bumper with removable end caps, which gives the truck a more aggressive exterior appearance and enables a 31.8-degree approach angle. Other off-road-focused equipment includes 18-inch off-road alloy wheels wrapped in 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires and additional underbody skid plates.
Mechanically, the new Silverado ZR2 features front and rear e-lockers, a taller ride height, and Multimatic DSSV dampers. Finally, the exit area for the dual exhaust system has been relocated to be behind the rear wheels, reducing the chance that it will get dented or damaged when off-roading.
The only available engine option in the new Silverado ZR2 will be the aforementioned 6.2L V8 L87 engine mated to the standard GM 10-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. A new Terrain Mode setting, also standard, allows for one-pedal driving on trails, particularly useful when rock crawling.
The refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is set to arrive at dealers in the spring of the 2022 calendar year.

The Transformer look is out the whole front end and taillights needs to go away
The 22 GMC is way better looking in my opinion
The “side burn” air dams are gone! May they rest in peace for ever! They were a horrible look the front quarter panels.
It makes sense for gm to go straight to the refreshed Silverado production considering the number of 2021 Trucks that still have not been shipped to dealerships due to Chip Shortages. Due the undelivered and unsold 2021 Silverado’s with outdated interiors, in a perfect world, it would make sense to sell those trucks at liquidation discounts in order to clear out old inventory as quickly as they need to.
I just don’t see them selling very many limiteds. Most people are going to wait for refresh model unless they’re desperate for a truck or there are deep discounts that make it extremely affordable. GMC came out with pricing for the at4x at 74995$ So the zr2 will probably be around 72995$ So that priced me out of that dream. LT trail boss at 60k or at4 at 62k might be doable.
I hope they would put the online configurator up soon so one can check out all the options and pricing.
RAM has it’s 2022 on line price and build configured and the Classic is not listed as a trim level as it is on the 2021. Maybe they are finally stopping production.
If you took a minute to call a dealer and see they are ordering 2022 classics now, instead of spouting useless speculation. The world would be a better place.
I agree, I called my local dealer and it was able to take my order if I came in. Took me all of 5 minutes.
Why can’t GM make a truck the working man can afford. Give it a manual transmission and a straight- six. And while you’re at it bring back at two door cab. Not everyone likes to own a family truck, and design it like how GM used to make trucks in the 1970’s.
A little thing called fuel economy regulations happened.
The refresh is ugly, I’ll wait for a bigger screen and better looks on the next generation in 2025.
If you get a W/T or custom you are getting a pre-refresh interior so you are getting like a half classic.
