Chevrolet Performance launched a new SuperMatic 4L75E-R transmission at the 2021 SEMA Show in Las Vegas this week, which is the highest torque capacity transmission in the 4L60/4L70 series line of products.
Chevy says the 4L75E-R was designed specifically to handle the torque output from the automaker’s new ZZ632 Big Block crate engine, which is factory rated at 1,000 horsepower and 876 pound-feet of torque. The closely related 4L75-E is only rated at a maximum of 650 pound-feet of torque, so the 4L75E-R will be the transmission of choice for customers with very high-torque applications. For reference, the lesser 4L70-E is rated at up to 495 pound-feet of torque, while the entry-level 4L65-E is rated at 430 pound-feet.
The 4L75E-R also offers a higher torque rating than the 4L85-E (which is rated at 685 pound-feet), despite featuring smaller overall packaging/dimensions.
“The 4L75E-R is designed to handle every pound-foot it can put to the pavement—in a smaller, lighter package than our SuperMatic 4L85-E transmission,” Chevrolet Performance says.
Other highlights of the 4L75E-R include a strong six-pinion input carrier and sun gear, a heavy-duty output shaft, a higher capacity servo and specific valve body calibration. It has identical gear ratios to the 4L75-E, which are as follows:
- 1st: 3.06
- 2nd: 1.62
- 3rd: 1.00
- 4th: 0.70
Like other electronically-controlled GM four-speed automatic transmission, the 4L75E-R can be used with both Small Block and Big Block carbureted engines, as well as LS fuel injected engines. A different electronic controller is required for carbureted engines versus fuel injected engines. The transmission is not sold with a torque converter, with the customer required to purchase this separately from Chevrolet Performance or a third-party store or supplier.
Chevrolet Performance also sells other components necessary for installation of its electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission, including a bell housing and transmission installation kits complete with a crankshaft flange, flexplate, flexplate covers and fasteners.
The 4L75E-R is available to order from the Chevrolet Performance catalog now.

I got a 4l60e with the corvette shift kit and Sonex bulletproof if upgrades. The shift kit makes it more responsive than GM’s 6 speed to throttle input. Assuming GM deleted the self destructing 3-4 shuttle valve, this thing will be indestructible and a boss tranny.
Would be perfect with around a 1st gear ratio around 2.70
So I didn’t see where you say what the torque rating is of the new 4L75E-R ? Curious what transmission is used behind the supercharged Camaro ?
I thought they already announced it as a TH350
I also upgraded my 4L60e but if true…this transmission will be in the sweet spot for many gear heads.
I decided to kept my 4L60e due to weight and size and beefed it up fairly cheap.
Will this have the optional 6 neutrals all 4L60s develop?
You’re an idiot. There is no such thing.
Never been a fan of this or the 700r4 transmission solely because of the 1-2 shift ratio. It sucks
Yup… you can build a 2004r just as strong
The 700R4 and 4L60E /65E /70E /75E are great transmissions. That’s why there are hundreds of millions on the road. They came in GM / Chevy vehicles for nearly 35 years.
The extra low first gear works great in 98-99% of vehicles they were installed in. It helps with towing and better gas mileage.
If you want a “close ratio” instead of the wide ratio, for racing purposes, you can always upgrade the internals with different gears to make first gear closer to second gear.
And whats it going to cost ?
If you can afford the 632 Bigblock, cost won’t be an issue.
For the average middle class person who likes to tinker on hot rods, probably too much money.
