The GM Authority Take

The Envision’s four percent decline in Q3 2021 appears to be the result of sub-optimal inventory of the all-new, 2021 Buick Envision. Although the model was not impacted by as much as the Cadillac XT4, whose production has been idled for several months thus far in 2021.

Going forward, we expect the all-new Buick Envision to perform significantly better in the segment than its predecessor as long as inventory/supply remains stabile. Incidentally, this would require that the SAIC-GM Jinqiao plant in China has a healthy supply of microchips and other materials, which has not been the case for the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas City, Kansas that builds the Envision’s platform mate, the Cadillac XT4. The lack of chips for the XT4 is the result of GM purposefully diverting chips to better-selling or higher-grossing vehicles like its full-size SUVs and pickup trucks.

    1. Obvious I would rather have it built here, but seeing lots of companies not able to find anybody willing to work for pretty damn high pay, can’t blame them. And at least GM is US based, can’t say the same for Stellantis

      1. There are more than enough union workers willing to build Envision. People still work for a fair wage

      2. This is not true at all. I’m all for guys calling out those that don’t wanna work but what you said is untrue. First off people are sick of massive corporations who work people part time and give no insurance so there wealthy investors make all the $. People are taking the jobs that pay they just wanna don’t wanna have to work 3 crap jobs anymore and still not make ends meet.

  4. Aren’t these segments a little jumbled? Seems like the GLA and QX30 and even X1 would be more aligned with the Lexus UX than NX.

    1. UX and NX are in similar segments, but the NX is more squarely in the C-segment space.

      1. Why no XT6 data included? You have GLB and Corsair included.

  5. The Mrs was all set to buy one, had all options picked and ready to go to a dealer until she read it was made in China. So she moved to a Caddy XT4 but the pickings were so slim, she couldn’t find but a couple at dealers, none with the options she wanted. Most dealers had none on their lots. One dealer had one she test drove and really like, but they were unwilling to give a fair trade in value. So the Caddy lost out do to inventory problems. She bought an American made Acura RDX and loves it.

  6. Bought an American made RDX where all the profit went back to Japan basically. Very pro-American.
