In this market, they wouldn’t need discounts for a stylish crossover that actually met the quality expectations of consumers. This thing is made in China, so it’s presumed to be full of lead paint, fake safety glass, inoperable air bags, and shoddy construction that will fall apart after a few uses. American consumers associate China with cheap good, faulty drywall, and dangerous children’s toys that had to be recalled.
China also isn’t considered an ally to most people who might be in the market for this thing. That justifiably skeptical attitude seems to get more prevalent every day. That mindset becoming far more common across the US and CA regardless of age or political affiliation.
This car would be far more popular if it were made in Korea, Canada, Mexico, or the US. GM is seriously limiting this Buick’s appeal by importing it from China.
The resident troll strikes again.
Yes paul I agree you are a troll.
Unfortunately the Envision is quality made. It’s a shame.
its a good looking vehicle, I don’t know about its overall quality. But made in China not for me.
Why is it unfortunate that the Envision is quality made? Wouldn’t you want any Buick sold to be quality made? Oh wait. Don’t answer that. I already know the answer “China”.
My wife recently bought an Envision Avenir. China made was a factor in our decision, and not a positive one, mostly because of the policies of the Chinese government and stance with the US. However, if you look at the car objectively, it is actually very high quality manufacturing and design. It has more features and seems better put together than our recent XT5. It is super quiet and solid. The Envision recently won the top quality rating in the compact luxury crossover space, which says something. The car has adaptive headlights (which are great), massaging seat, and even sweeping LED turn signals and an approach lighting sequence. The profits go to GM and the car is based on a US design (XT4). If the car was built a few miles to the east in Korea nobody would think twice.
THIS. Say what you will about the origin we can all agree we don’t like where it’s made HOWEVER everything you said about it compared to the competition and it’s quality is true and it shows in its sales and reviews.
My wife is on her second Envision. The first, a 2017 model, provided 46,000 miles of trouble-free operation with nothing other than normal maintenance. The one complaint I had was the OEM Michelin tires, which did not meet my expectation for wear, even with regular rotation(the first time I’ve been dissatisfied with a Michelin product). The 2017 Envision met its end when it was hit in the rear by a 2500 series pickup. Had that not happened, my wife would still be driving the car. It seemed solid, was very quiet and smooth in operation, provided good fuel mileage and, as I already mentioned, was very reliable.
Following the accident, my wife was basically unwilling to consider anything other than another Envision. We bought a 2021 Avenir, which was pretty difficult to locate at the time. We had to travel 230 miles to find the one she wanted, as ebony interior was a requirement and all the nearby units had whisper beige. The 2021 model is superior to the 2017 in every way so far. It’s still new enough that we can’t yet comment as to reliability, but the car, like its predecessor, seems well-built and offers great ride quality, quietness and value with a solid range of features.
Would I prefer that it was built in the U.S.? Absolutely. Still, the revenue goes to a U.S. company, and their manufacturing setup allows them to be a significant player in the Chinese market, so I’m willing to accept the trade-off. In addition, the Envision Avenir was about $8k less than a similarly-equipped XT4.
