General Motors has had around 216,000 people register interest in the Cadillac Lyriq since the production version of the vehicle first debuted earlier this year. Below, we compare the many subtle differences between the show car (pictured on the left) that was revealed in August 2020Â to the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq production model (pictured on the right).
Front
The front “grille” of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq has a black separation between the non-illuminated portion and the animated lighting surround, which houses the front-mounted camera. The show car does not have these two elements, sporting a seamless grille design instead.
Also, the 2023 Lyriq has slim LED amber turn signals below the hoodline, wherein the show car does not. The hood cutout is slightly different as well, to of course accommodate the new turn signals.
Additionally, the 2023 Lyriq has a fender-mounted marker light, which the show car does not.
Finally, the lower bumper trim has “teeth” and is a little taller on the corners on the 2023 Lyriq compared to the show car.
Here, the 2023 Lyriq’s vertical driving lights are more stretched out and thinner, and are encased in a bigger transparent casing, and there’s a black winglet that spans horizontally across this satin-colored bezel.
Note, too, the front camera on the 2023 Lyriq below the main center “grille.”
Side
The charge port door on the 2023 Lyriq is much smaller, and doesn’t extend to the bottom of the side like on the show car. Some more photos below show this as well.
The 23-inch alloy wheel design is similar between the two, but the 2023 Lyriq has exposed lug nuts where the show car does not.
The show car has a GM Design logo right behind the front wheel under the port charging door, while the 2023 Lyriq does not.
The 2023 Lyriq has regular side mirrors, but the show car has very thin units that seemingly house cameras instead.
On the 2023 Lyriq, the chrome trim that stretches over the doors tops the LED taillight strip, as opposed to the show car where there is a body colored gap.
Plus, the 2023 Lyriq has a center high-mounted stop lamp (CHMSL), which the show car does not.
There’s a body panel cutline on the rear fender or the 2023 Lyriq, which the show car doesn’t have.
Rear
The license plate recess on the 2023 Lyriq is taller to accommodate a North American sized plate. Also, the production version has nameplate and torque-based badging while the show car does not.
And the taillights have a slightly different illumination pattern between the two.
The 2023 Lyriq has a silver and black trim hugging the rear bumper lighting element, while the show car does not.
The lights also appear to be treated differently between the two.
Finally, the 2023 Lyriq has a different lower bumper design with reflectors at the bottom edges.
As we can see, the Cadillac Lyriq is one of those vehicles where the concept closely matches the production version. Very nice.
Debut Edition Sold Out And Nearing Production
The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition sold out in just over 10 minutes after General Motors opened reservations in September. GM charged customers $100 to reserve a 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition, although the pre-order is non-binding and fully refundable. It’s unknown how many of the units the luxury automaker will build.
The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition will come standard with an Ultium 100.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an Ultium Drive single electric motor mounted on the rear axle, which is good for an estimated 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. This 340-horsepower version of the Cadillac Lyriq will wear a 450E badge, as per Cadillac’s torque-based naming convention it first introduced back in 2019. The mid-size CUV rides on the GM BEV3 platform and tips the scales at a significant 5,610 pounds.
Other standard equipment includes a glass panoramic moonroof, an AKG Studio 19-speaker audio system, active noise cancellation, eight-way power-adjustable driver and passenger seats with massage function, a heated steering wheel, a 33-inch digital display/driver information cluster and Super Cruise. As we reported previously, only two wheel types and two exterior colors – Satin Steel Metallic and Stellar Black Metallic – will be offered on the vehicle from launch.
General Motors recently completed one of the final development phases for the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq and remains on track to begin production of the vehicle early next year. The luxury crossover will enter production at the GM Spring Hill Assembly plant in Tennessee next March.
Pricing for the Cadillac Lyriq will start at $59,990 in the U.S., including destination and freight, as previously reported. Canadian customers, meanwhile, can expect a starting price of $69,898 CAD.

Comments
Nice they kept the styling close now let’s hope the show car like styling does not create issues as it has in some cars like the SSR.
The debut editions were never “sold out” because there were not sales. Please write that as reservations, not sales! Don’t follow the Tesla lies.
Ya, actually there are only 1500 launch editions, and they actually were all reserved in 2 minutes, the other 8 were just people dealing with Cadillac website glitches. Cadillac could have taken 10X that many reservations, but this was just meant to be a limited launch edition, the regular fully spec’d and AWD models will launch orders in September 2022 is what dealers have been told. This slow launch is mostly due to battery supply constraints which should alleviate as Lordstown Cell comes online in Q3 2022.
Super Cruise, not Ultra Cruise?
And – any estimate on the rate of production? At first it will be a bit lower as they prove-out the line, but, per shift, what production rate? I’m going to guess GM will sell these about as fast as they can make them, at least at first – it’s a market hungry for new vehicles, especially on like this….
GM built a separate brand new body shop for it at Spring Hill, so I think volumes will be above 50K annually which will make it Cadillacs best selling USA vehicle. This should be a big hit for Cadillac.
Should have made the silver show car color available on the production version.
Nice-looking car. If EVs are the future, this isn’t too bad.
“Plus, the 2023 Lyriq has a center high-mounted stop lamp (CHMSL), which the show car does not.”
Are you blind? The show car has it in many of the shots you posted. You can clearly see the red.
CADILLAC design language on point Bold yet Classy fine job,I can’t wait to see this vehicle in person
I’m hoping it looks the same. That white one running around the highways looks horrible. Looks like some bumper parts are missing. Historically Cadillac always dumbs down the looks on the production car.
That’s just the test mule, the parts are missing on purpose. Also every car manufacturer tones down the look of the production version of the concept, not just “Historically cadillac” the concept lyriq was only 85% production ready.
My reservation info says that SuperCruise is AVAILABLE, not INCLUDED in the base price of the Lance edition.
As I mentioned earlier, the original Charge Port door was a deal breaker for me….This smaller one is probably small enough to avoid most freezing troubles…
I wish Cadillac would go back to “Understated Elegance” (such as my 2014 ELR has), rather than flashing lights. It gives the same effect as a brand new luxury car being plastered with bumper stickers. I’m sure almost everyone will now say “What’s wrong with them?”, haha.
Why can’t Cadillac make an “electric charge door” slightly larger than a “gas fuel door”? Does half of the front fender have to hinge forward? This is a nice looking vehicle except for that.
Well Bob – they like your comments but don’t like mine, but we both said the exact same thing – except I was worried about functionality as opposed to looks…Somehow – on the production version – they made this thing look even uglier.
This line E-pace competitor isn’t going to be the cataclysmic change that GM wants it to be. Hell, it has taken them forever to bring this to market- and when they do, it’s two wheel drive only and limited range.
Looks like a dud to me. Unfortunately like the rest of Ultium so far. They just aren’t moving fast enough with these new products.
Really sharp looking EV. Waiting for AWD with the Dual Motor Setup.
I’ll be coming Q4 of 2022
»The license plate recess on the 2023 Lyriq is taller to accommodate a North American sized plate. «
And wide enough for a European sized licence plate.
I like the look. Launch units need more color options. I hope the all wheel version arrives soon after. I wonder if the solid state battery tech comes to this beauty!
