2022 Chevy Traverse Loses Blackout And Black Accent Packages

The 2022 Chevy Traverse crossover arrives as the fifth model year of the latest second-generation vehicle, introducing a refresh consisting of several updates and changes over the preceding 2021 model year. Among these is the cancellation of the Blackout and Black Accent packages.

Previously, the Blackout and Black Accent packages were offered as LPO-level options, which means they were installed by the dealer, rather than at the factory when the vehicle was initially produced. Both were set to be optional on LS, LT Cloth, LT Leather, and Premier trim levels, and unavailable on RS and High Country trim levels. Now, however, both packages have been cancelled, and will not be offered for the 2022 Chevy Traverse.

The Blackout Package is tagged with RPO code PDB, and includes the following content (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):

  • Black grille (SJA)
  • Front and rear Black bow tie emblems (SFZ)
  • Black rear license plate applique (RXX)
  • Gloss Black emblem kit (RIK)

Meanwhile, the Black Accent Package includes:

  • Black grille (SJA)
  • Front and rear Black bow tie emblems (SFZ)

Both packages were previously expected to be offered with “late availability” for the 2022 Chevy Traverse, but now, both have been cancelled outright. The Blackout Package was already previously constrained for the 2021 Chevy Traverse.

2021 Chevy Traverse Midnight Edition

The Midnight / Sport Package was added for the 2021 model year, and is still offered for the 2022 Chevy Traverse. The Midnight / Sport Package is tagged with RPO code WJU and is optional on LS, LT Cloth and LT Leather trim levels. The package includes the following content:

  • Black ice grille
  • Front and rear Black Chevy bow ties
  • Black nameplate (and AWD badge on AWD models)
  • Black roof rails (V59)
  • 18-inch Gloss Black painted aluminum wheels with Black center caps with Chevy logo (PZJ)

As GM Authority covered previously, the official online configurator for the 2022 Chevy Traverse is now live. Production was slated to start last week.

  1. Blackout treatment looks small town cheap. I’ll take chrome any day.

  2. Walt, when have you seen a Ferrari, Porsche or Lamborghini with chrome? small town cheap?
Even Big Rigs are doing away with lots of chrome. They are keeping it to a minimum, just take a look at the new Freightliner trucks.
New generations, call it millennial or gen z hate chrome. They will be the next buyers not the old farts. Chrome is a thing of the past mostly living in the US market.

  4. I am one of those that hate chrome packages and this is very disappointing. Is this another way of GM cheapening out.

  5. I’m not saying I welcome the shortages, but the sport/midnight edition is probably enough. There’s too many vehicles these days with either too much chrome or too much black trim, but at least the Traverse offers models in between. Except the black accent package always still felt like too much, and the blackout felt totally unecessary because of the midnight/sport, so really…
