2022 Chevy Silverado Limited Gets Reduced Fuel Economy Ratings

The 2022 Chevy Silverado Limited provides a sort of “stop gap” between the pre-refresh 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 and fully refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500, carrying over the majority of features, options, and colors of the pre-refresh 2021 model year. That said, there are a few small differences between the pre-refresh 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2022 Chevy Silverado Limited worth pointing out, including slightly reduced fuel economy ratings.
From the off, it should be noted that the pre-refresh 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2022 Chevy Silverado Limited differ with regard to the engine lineup, with the 2022 Chevy Silverado Limited deleting the naturally aspirated 4.3L V6 LV3 gasoline engine and naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L82 gasoline engine from the powertrain options. As such, there are no fuel economy ratings for 2022 Chevy Silverado Limited models equipped with these two engines.
That said, the 2022 Chevy Silverado Limited does continue to offer the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine. To note, the 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine differs from the 5.3L V8 L82 gasoline engine in that the former is equipped with Dynamic Fuel Management technology, whereas the latter is equipped with Active Fuel Management technology.
It should also be noted that the six-speed automatic transmission (RPO code MYC) is no longer offered with the 2022 Chevy Silverado Limited. Additionally, the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B is standard on the Work Truck trim level, Custom trim level, and Custom Trail Boss trim level, while the 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine is standard on RST Crew Cab models and available on Work Truck models. Finally, the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax is available on LT Trail Boss models.
With all that covered, let’s dive into the fuel economy ratings, where we find the 2022 Chevy Silverado Limited posts slightly lower mpg figures when compared to equivalent 2021-model-year vehicles. Check out the complete fuel economy breakdown in the table below:
Trim Level | Drivetrain | Engine | Transmission | Auto Stop/Start | Cylinder Deactivation | 2021MY City/Hwy/Combined mpg | 2022MY City/Hwy/Combined mpg | +/- 2022 vs 2021 |

pretty ugly numbers – wonder the reason for the adjustment on a limited term model, I doubt anything changed.
Is it because the chip shortage? I know they were selling trucks without the DFM. I would rather just go without it. The longevity I think would be better. For 1 mpg I could gain that with a CAI with a MIT , some long tube Headers, and a less restrictive exhaust. I’m just saying some have been having problems with this engine as well with oil consumption. Not saying all but it all links to AFM and now some DFM.
The 2.7 Turbo still has AFM.
So the drop in fuel economy is surprising but the EPA is notorious for being full of it.
Death on Demand people with it deleted are lucky.
I would put a tune in mine and turn that crap off if it did not void the warranty and get the same MPG.
But is the the 2.7 in the 22′ Limited going to have the updated version with 420 torque? The refresh is terrible so I’d love to know this.
I doubt the 22 Limited has the updated 2.7 – my guess is too many people complained about real world MPG’s vs EPA ratings, and GM thinks lowering ratings might avoid a penalty from the EPA. For those who don’t know – the EPA doesn’t test all cars, most EPA tests are done by the automakers on the honor system, with verification audits by the EPA, so maybe GM trucks got audited and had to be corrected.
Honor system lolololololololololol.
The EPA lives under a rock.
no updated 2.7 in a ltd and doubtful that the 8sp is also.
What don’t you like about the refresh?
To everyone else: Are the down votes because people didn’t agree with that opinion or that the Limited ’22 doesn’t have the updated 2.7.
If you’re concerned about fuel mileage in a truck…..get the 3.0L Diesel!
yea, but not ideal for someone who only makes short trips, with the particulate filter and the filter burn-off process requiring some longer run periods to work properly.
The production of the Diesel engine has been shutdown for a few months and there is no ETA when GM will start producing them again. Been waiting for my diesel Silverado for months now… 🙁
The Limited name is kinda funny here – GM is using it to label their leftover models to fill a gap before the new model is available, but Ford and Ram use it to name their top of the line models lol
2 to 4 mpg for trailboss/mudtires when 90 to 95% have no use for them.
If I had an occasional use for them I would buy a 2nd set of tires and rims
I ordered my 2022 GMC 1500 Sierra limited 3.0L Diesel in AUG the 26 and received it Oct 29 2021.
Surprise, Surprise, Surprise.
Nice congratulations on your new truck I’m glad to read you got it fairly quickly.
These trucks are really heavy and that 22 limited is even heavier , need some with balls to billed a bit smaller track with full aluminum constriction.
