2022 Chevy Malibu Gets New Mineral Gray Metallic Color: First Look

The 2022 Chevy Malibu offers a total of seven exterior colors, two of which were deleted and replaced by two new ones: Dark Ash Metallic and Mineral Gray Metallic. Here’s our first look at the new Mineral Gray hue.

Assigned RPO code G5D and touch-up paint code WA-615G, Mineral Gray Metallic is one of five neutral hues available for the 2022 Malibu. It’s also one of five metallic exterior color options available for the sedan.

As mentioned, there are seven total exterior color options for the 2022 Chevy Malibu:

  • Mineral Gray Metallic
  • Dark Ash Metallic
  • Northsky Blue Metallic
  • Silver Ice Metallic
  • Summit White
  • Mosaic Black Metallic
  • Cherry Red Tintcoat

The new Mineral Gray Metallic color is included in the vehicle price of the 2022 Malibu, meaning that it’s not an extra-cost option. The color is available on all trim levels and with every interior color combination.

Other noteworthy 2022 Chevy Malibu changes and updates over the 2021 model include the deletion of the base L trim level / 1VL equipment group, deletion of the manual parking brake – meaning that the electronic parking brake is now standard on all models, and the deletion of several packages, including the Portable Media Connectivity Package, Weather Protection Package, Weather Protection Package 2, Winter/Summer Floor Mats Package, and the Appearance Package.

The 2022 Chevy Malibu models have only recently begun to reach dealer lots, as production of the midsize sedan restarted on November 1st at the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas City, after being down in the U.S. since February.

Looking ahead, production of the 2022 Chevy Malibu is expected to ramp up in December, with the 2022 Chevy Malibu online configurator being launched in September. Of course, availability will vary by dealer when models do begin to arrive, so check with yours for complete details.

  3. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 YES, Make sure you check dealer availability because my local dealers haven’t seen a Malibu on their lots in years! The only ones they might see are the ones that come in for service or the ones a customer might order sight unseen! So sad. I LOVE my 2020 CAJUN RED, Malibu Premier. To hear of its demise soon is even sadder. It’s not the first Malibu I’ve had. They just kept getting better and better, so I kept leasing a new one every three years!

    The ONLY problem I have with this one since DAY ONE is the radio changes stations all by itself! When it first started happening, it took me about a week to realize what was happening. I kept thinking to myself -that song didn’t finish yet, how come they stopped it! DUH! At the time, my brother worked at the dealership in another state where I got the card so I contacted him to ask him if he heard anything about this happening. At first he said there were no updates or recalls etc. Well, since the car was brand new I did not want some mechanic to start taking apart the whole dash to find this problem and then end up with either rattles or something else not working correctly so I decided to live with it since it was a lease. This is WHY I lease my cars because the dealer I used to go to in CT, disliked me because I always got the cars from my brother’s workplace and not my local dealer. I only went to the local dealer for oil changes or warranty work and the head service manager was always making sarcastic or snide comments that he probably thought I didn’t hear. They never believed what I told them. If THEY didn’t see or hear or experience the problem I was telling them about, they never did anything. Their philosophy was the customer is always wrong! I said, oh well, it’s not my problem, it’s GMs problem when they get the car back!

    Then, one day my brother called me and said we just got a factory bulletin about the radio changing stations all by itself. So, I brought it to my new dealer here in Connecticut, along with a copy of the bulletin and they said they would check it out. After they changed the oil and rotated the tires they came out to the waiting room and told me that the problem was the cord I was using when I had my iPhone plugged in. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 They said that they reset everything and tested it and that it was my cord that was making it change stations. Well, I didn’t believe them because it’s the same cord I’ve used in the previous Malibu premiers and never had a problem. Anyway, I said let’s see what happens. So for over a month I did not use any USB cord or anything plugged into the car. As expected, the radio still acted up and changed stations all by itself. Oh, I just remembered, my original dealer here in CT, told me that it was my Bluetooth on my phone that was making the radio act up????? I shut that off on my phone and it made NO difference! I’m just thinking now that I also have internet in my car, but that can’t be the problem either because I did not have the internet when I first got the car. That I ordered later. Now, I know that most dealerships don’t believe anything that you tell them because they have to see it with their own eyes. Well, I don’t know how this problem will ever be resolved because I never know when it’s going to happen. I don’t even really concentrate on it anymore now, but I am pretty sure that it changes at least once whenever I drive it maybe not every day. With the situation the way it is now with car prices, my lease is up in September 2022, so if prices maintain what they are now from my car I will definitely buy it because that makes the most sense because my buyout figure is something like $18,800. Then I can decide if I want to keep it or sell it myself. Right now I’m thinking I will keep it because the car is like brand new. I only have 13,800 miles on the car in a little over two years. I know that every time I turn my lease cars in they look exactly the same as the day I picked them up. My last lease a salesman at the dealership where my brother worked bought my car because he couldn’t believe the condition it was in. That’s just how I take care of my cars and always have. So, now that another oil change and tire rotation is coming due I’m going to bring this matter up to the dealership again and bring the papers that I have for the recall notice and now maybe they can delve into this problem a little more. Does anyone out there who works at a dealership tell me how I can get them to replace this radio without them actually seeing it change stations? I mean WHY in the world would I want a mechanic to start taking this car apart to replace the radio if there wasn’t something wrong with it? I would have to be a complete idiot. Ok- I’ve bored you all long enough. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

    1. You don’t need to check dealer availability. You can just order one, like it says on of all the dealers signs around me.

    They won’t have an issue selling them if they did, between consumers and rental companies desperate for wheels.

    1. They will build them if either a customer orders one, or the dealer orders one for stock. Car companies do not just build cars to have them sit around the factory. Dealers do that. And dealers don’t order cars that don’t turn.

  5. The electric parking brake… stupid in so many ways.
    You can’t partly apply it; it’s a switch, either on or off. You can’t tell by feel if it’s on securely or weakly.
    You can’t see if it’s on just by looking.
    You can’t yank it on and immediately off again to induce momentary oversteer.
    You need electrical power for it to work – or it’s useless.
    The manual handbrake has never failed me in 40+ years of car ownership. It’s cheaper, more reliable, and more durable.
    And the one in my 4 year old Camaro now sounds like a cat is being disemboweled as I engage & disengage it (SHREIK!).
    I know it will fail soon, costing God knows how much in servos, motors and sensors.

    Just how stupid can you get?
    And don’t even get me started regarding electric keys…

      For when you’re partly parked?

      1. When you want to gently push the rear of the car out in a low traction situation.
        When you are on a level surface, waiting for a red light.
        When you want to take the heat & pressure off the front brakes on a long steep downhill descent….
        …. for starters.

      2. …. and of course, with a manual transmission when starting uphill, you need to be able to gradually release the handbrake while progressively engaging the clutch.

  6. Also when you want to know how much “meat” is left on the rear pads or shoes. You can gauge this by feeling and seeing how far up you need to pull the handbrake.
    This all starting to make sense to you yet?
