2022 Buick Velite 6 EV Launched In China With Improved Range

General Motors has just launched the refreshed 2022 Buick Velite 6 EV in China, the only country in the world where Buick‘s all-electric vehicle is marketed. The biggest news for the Velite 6 EV’s new model year is an improved powertrain, allowing it to significantly increase its zero-emission driving range.

The updated 2022 Buick Velite 6 EV adopts the latest electric motor configuration and a new larger battery fully developed by SAIC-GM, increasing its driving range to 518 kilometers or 322 miles on a single charge, according to China’s Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). This represents the second range increase for the Buick Velite 6 EV since its initial launch in late 2018.

“The Velite 6 EV has built strong momentum thanks to its premium quality, reliability and connectivity features,” said General Director of Buick Sales and Marketing at SAIC-GM, Cesar Toledo, in a statement. “With its longer EV range and additional comfort and connected features, the upgraded model will meet customers’ rising demand for green mobility while strengthening Buick’s presence in NEVs in China,” he added.

Unlike the model’s previous update, which only improved the energy density of the existing battery, the 2022 Buick Velite 6 EV adopts a larger battery that increases capacity from the previous 52.5 kWh to 61.1 kWh. In addition, it benefits from an improved electric motor with an output of 130 kW or 174 horsepower. The powertrain and technical specifications are identical to those of the newly released 2022 Chevy Menlo EV.

Other enhancements to the 2022 Buick Velite 6 EV, representing the fourth model year of the vehicle’s first generation, include a quick charge feature that charges 50 percent of the battery in just 30 minutes, Buick’s latest eConnect infotainment system with standard 10-inch display and wireless Apple CarPlay integration, as well as new exterior trim details such as more modern-looking wheels and the addition of the Cyan paint color.

The refreshed 2022 Buick Velite 6 EV just went on sale throughout Buick’s extensive dealer network in China, the main volume market for the Tri-Shield brand. The all-electric crossover is available in three trim levels with a comprehensive list of safety and technology features, and can be purchased with special financing plans. The starting price is 159,900 CNY, about $25,000 USD at the current exchange rate.

  1. They need to give it enough range to span the Pacific Ocean and get the thing here as one of the many that are upcoming that gm keeps bragging about.

    1. Ya. What is it with GM that they gave us the Bolt EV in 2017, but China got the larger and more luxurious Buick Velite 6 in 2018? WHAT ABOUT AMERICA FIRST? GM?? As tax payers, we bailed you out in 2009 yet you ignore us by giving China of all places (a communist country run by a lethal dictator) a better EV than you gave America. How dare you and how unpatriotic! That is just one of the reasons I ordered a 2022 Mustang Mach-E with the 310 mile range after selling back my 2017 Bolt EV in the fire recall buy-back program. Ford Mustang Mach-E all the way!

  3. This could sell as a Chevrolet in the US. Nicer than Bolt!

    1. You say nicer, but it also has less range than the Bolt due to its smaller battery and has less power because it has about 30 less horsepower.

This just looks like an extended length vehicle, but the same wheelbase as the Bolt EUV.

      1. The Buick has 322 miles of range, which is more than the 259 on the Bolt EUV, read the article next time

        1. It’s CLTC range estimates, not EPA range estimates. So if this vehicles was tested with EPA standards I wouldn’t expect it to get over 200 miles per charge.

  6. I think GM is testing these EVs production vehicles in China as they retool the USA factories and build 2 new battery plants. They cannot make these vehicles in the USA without the new battery plants. I am encouraged by these new China vehicles as the designs can now be made in USA once the batteries are available. All future GM vehicles in the USA will get the new Ultium batteries except for the Bolt. Competition with Tesla is needed to keep the price lower and more affordable to everyone.
