Refreshed 2022 Silverado Work Truck 1500: First Photos

When General Motors first announced the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500, it only shared photos of the light-duty pickup in the ZR2, High Country and LT trim levels. GM Authority has since captured photos of the sporty RST trim as well as the rugged Silverado Custom Trail Boss. Now, we’re bringing you images of yet another unseen-before trim – the 2022 Silverado Work Truck (WT), which serves as the base model of the Silverado family.

The model seen here is the Regular Cab, Long Box configuration that’s only available on the Work Truck trim.

The 2022 Silverado Work Truck incorporates a restyled front fascia with an updated version of the ‘CHEVROLET’ script-style black grille. Instead of being embedded in the thick crossbar of the front grille, like on the current WT, Custom and Custom Trail Boss, the ‘CHEVROLET’ lettering is now more neatly integrated into the overall grille design and resides higher on the front fascia.

Moving the crossbar higher within the grille is in line with the higher-up placement of the Chevy bow tie on the refreshed upper-level trims like LT, LTZ and High Country. In fact, the crossbar itself has also been toned down to take on a thinner and more nuanced shape.

The small, gold Chevy Bow Tie continues to reside within the lower corner of the grille, as are a set of black recovery/tow hooks. The halogen headlights are present and accounted for, much like they were on the Silverado WT for the 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 (Limited) model years.

The reworked front renders do away with the controversial “sideburn” aesthetic by reconfiguring the fender and front fascia, along with the front air curtain treatment. Additionally, this model features the chrome front bumper.

Also note the ‘Silverado’ hard badge on the front fender, followed by a set of black door handles and mirrors. This truck rides on the 17-inch Ultra Silver painted steel wheels (RPO code RD6) standard on the Work Truck trim (and not offered elsewhere within the lineup).

The base engine in the 2022 Silverado Work Truck will be GM’s turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, which has received numerous updates for 2022 and now produces 20 percent more torque than before for a total output of 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet. The four-cylinder will come paired with a revised version of the GM eight-speed automatic.

The refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado family will enter production during the first quarter of the 2022 calendar year, with order books set to open in December. As we reported previously, the truck will be available in the WT (Work Truck), Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, LTZ and High Country trim levels.

LT and above models will feature a completely redesigned cockpit, highlighted by a new 13.4-inch center screen and a digital gauge cluster.

Meanwhile, WT, Custom and Custom Trail Boss models will continue with the interior seen on the pre-refresh models.

    1. One would probably have to purchase an Online Aftermarket Chrome Grill for that Truck , though a feature Fleet Buyers won’t care too much for and could do without.

    1. I remember the old GMT400 WT at least had that Argent colored grill which looked pretty good compared to this all black look.

  8. That updated front on the WT and Custom is tuuuuuuurrible and I still cannot believe that GM will still be utilizing that awful outdated from the minute it was shown current interior.

  11. HEY GM !
I need a full size Work Truck WITH A SHORT WHEELBASE! Regular cab + Short Bed = 120″ wheelbase (approx).
I have to get that configuration, so PLEASE make it for me. Ford does…. but I prefer Chevys.
    PS I need a dozen.

    1. I have to ask why anyone looking for a regular cab work truck would want a short bed?

  12. Hello good looking,
I will take a regular cab long bed 4×4 W/T with the v8, locking differential and power windows and locks.

  13. Would like a regular cab 4×4 in LT trim. Don’t need a huge truck but would like some nicer options than WT

  14. I’m a chevy guy all the way, but that grill is just plain hideous, makes me wonder if they haven’t hired someone that used to work for Ford on the design team, he purposely designing these ugly ass grills just to toy with people’s emotions! They will figure things out when the sierra outsells the silverado cause of that ugly ass grill!

  15. The “sideburn” air curtains were never the problem. It’s the upper portion of the fender at the front that bizarrely protrudes/wraps around into the grill like a finger. And unfortunately Chevrolet designers are obsessed with this design element. It’s less pronounced in the current front but with this they’ve amplified it, combined with the tooth jutting out below it, it looks exactly like a jigsaw puzzle piece. That vertical elongated air curtain on the current design looks great, it looks tuff. This looks crunched down in comparison. The Chevrolet logo looks great, the gold bow tie looks great, grill pattern looks great, everything else is a complete fall. GM – please, for god’s sake, until you can hire competent designers that can pull it off, stop refreshing your vehicles every 3 years. Its like clockwork, 3 years is enough of a great design, then send it the refresh hacks.

  16. Why chrome? Have you noticed that chrome is going away faster than expected? Look at the new Freightliner trucks. Even those are either only placing some chrome lines or no chrome at all. Any kind of chrome not needed, as could be in a Stainless Steel, should be banned. It is polluting to the environment.
I have not seen any comments or questions regarding the Silverado Custom grille. I would think that the “bar” and / or the “Chevrolet wording” are in body color, just like the current Silverado Custom is today.
GM Auth, any photos on it?

  17. Cross the border south, go to a Chevy dealership, get the Silverado WT or an uplevel Cheyenne with a short box, then import it back to the US. Safety equipment is the same as in the US and only engine option is 5.3L L84 for 2022 Limited.

  18. I mean it’s only a work truck it isn’t supposed to be super expensive and it at least looks better than the last work truck

    1. Some people like me would like a well equipped nice looking regular cab long bed, I to hate the ugly cheap looking front end on the work truck. If they are only going to offer this truck in this configuration you should at least be able to order it with a smooth grill painted body color along with painted bumpers in the body color.
